Upon hearing this, Evelyn Clayton raised her eyebrows.
She looked at Jas Grant with a half-smile, "So that’s what Director Grant thinks?"
Jas Grant’s Adam’s apple bobbed slightly, but he didn’t say anything for a long ti.
Keith Donovan only realized he misspoke at this mont, but he couldn’t take back his words, so he had to force himself to say, "I’m the one who said that, don’t take it out on Jas—"
"Is the child yours too?" Evelyn Clayton glanced coolly at Keith Donovan. "Why, is Jas Grant a gourd with its mouth sealed, needing you to speak on his behalf?"
Keith Donovan’s face turned a few shades uglier, "Evelyn, do you have to speak like this?"
Evelyn Clayton chuckled softly, watching Keith Donovan leisurely, "It’s not that I have to speak like this, it’s that whatever matters between Jas and , I’ll discuss them with him. What exactly is Young Master Donovan trying to stir up here?"
After her words, Evelyn Clayton pretended to think for a mont, "I get it now. Could it be that you all think Jas might find so words hard to say, so you’d send Young Master Donovan to speak them instead?"
As if unable to bear it any longer, Jas Grant finally spoke.
"I never thought that way." Jas Grant fixed his gaze on Evelyn Clayton, "I promised you, I’ll never fight with you for Sharon’s custody. I know you suffered a lot when giving birth to her, and raising her alone all these years hasn’t been easy, so... I won’t do that. But Evelyn, using the child like this, even if she doesn’t bla you now, there’s no guarantee she won’t in the future when she rembers."
Evelyn Clayton’s smile vanished as she locked eyes with Jas Grant, "So, you’re just like Keith Donovan, convinced that I’m using Sharon to morally bind ?"
Jas Grant silently took a deep breath, "I didn’t an it that way, you misunderstood."
Evelyn Clayton quietly observed Jas Grant for a long ti before withdrawing her gaze, "Since you don’t think that way, then don’t let Keith Donovan make assumptions about . Jas Grant, have you always thought your mistake was locking up back then, restricting my freedom, and then presumptuously bringing Charlotte Sterling back, to play so ridiculous mother-daughter harmony drama?"
Jas Grant’s lips moved slightly, but before he could speak, Evelyn Clayton sneered.
She continued, "That’s just the tip of the iceberg. What disappointed the most was that you never placed on equal footing with you. You always thought you were right, and that I should live dependent on you, or else I’d lead a miserable life."
"You believe you’re my savior, just like when you ’rescued’ from my marriage with Marcus, you thought that without you, a woman without a man would be completely helpless."
"That’s actually not true. These years, I haven’t been alone. The Sinclair family helped , and I repaid them. Even without them, I wouldn’t let myself live miserably because I have my friends, and I’ve built everything I have for myself."
"You think I suffered a lot when I had Sharon, so you believe your redemption is worth more than gold. No, it’s not, all your redemption is just to make your own conscience feel better."
After a pause, Evelyn Clayton t the different gazes of Jas Grant and Keith Donovan, curling her lips into a slight smile.
"First of all, I didn’t suffer that much. I chose to give birth to this child not because I loved you, nor because of this child’s bloodline, but because I love this child, and I have the right to give birth to her."
"Secondly, even if I did suffer a lot, there’s no need for you to make up for anything, because as I’ve said, from the very beginning, this child’s birth was never because of you."
