Jas Grant suddenly fell silent.
His eyes were still fierce, but there was an undeniable pain within them.
Yes, he knew.
He knew why Evelyn Clayton went to Y Province, he knew what Evelyn was hiding from him.
He knew it all.
And knowing it was precisely what caused him such pain and confusion.
All the scattered clues from before now connected into a complete line.
Why Evelyn agreed so readily to be with him, why he always felt she was different from before... everything, everything had an explanation.
Jas had long suspected.
Evelyn wanted to use the Grant Family to investigate the truth behind her father’s death.
That was why she agreed to reconcile with him.
In reality, she had no interest in him at all.
At the thought of this possibility, Jas’s heart felt as if it were being stabbed a thousand tis, even breathing felt difficult.
"You’re questioning now?" Jas’s gaze was incredibly terrifying, and his hand slightly tightened around Evelyn’s jaw. "I ought to ask you, why did you agree to get back together with ?"
Evelyn’s eyes flashed with pain, nearly making her cry out.
But she forcibly endured it, and after a long while, she lightly chuckled, retorting, "Get back together? Jas Grant, were we ever really together?"
"Wasn’t I just your lover before? To put it bluntly, I didn’t even count as a lover; you never acknowledged my identity to others, did you?"
Jas’s eyes turned blood-red, "Do you want it? Do you want to publicly acknowledge your identity? Whenever you want, I can——"
"I don’t want it."
The clear words were like a basin of cold water, pouring over Jas completely.
His eyes blurred for a mont, looking at Evelyn in a daze.
"Since everything’s been said today." Evelyn bit her lip and slowly broke free from Jas’s grip, stepping back to et his gaze steadily.
"...Then let’s just lay everything out."
"I’ve never loved you, even if it wasn’t Harrison Grant who directly killed my father, he was still an accomplice, he made a mobile blood bank for Sumr Monroe for decades!" Evelyn’s eyes grew redder as she spoke, "You’re Harrison Grant’s son, do you expect to forget all this and be with the son of my enemy?"
After speaking, Evelyn took a deep breath, expressionlessly shifting her gaze to so void.
"Besides, I lied to you. I never wanted to be with you, I just wanted to approach the Grant Family to find out the truth of my father’s death. Jas Grant, there’s no future for us, stop making futile efforts."
Jas’s lips trembled, all his previous montum suddenly disappeared, helplessness and disarray flooded his eyes.
He stepped forward, his voice hoarse, "Evelyn, that’s not what I ant... I was just a bit angry, I’m very worried about you, don’t say things out of anger——"
"I’m not speaking out of anger."
Evelyn closed her eyes, then leisurely looked at Jas, her gaze full of cold indifference.
"Jas Grant, I said, there’s no future for us, not now, not ever."
"Go back, once I recover and take care of everything, I’ll return to Riversend too. But from now on, let’s not have any more entanglents."
Jas instinctively shook his head, he stepped forward, trying to grab Evelyn’s wrist.
"No, Evelyn, don’t be like this——"
Evelyn dodged his hand.
Jas stood there, staring at his empty palm.
Evelyn turned her eyes away, refusing to look at Jas’s expression, then raised her voice——
"Nurse, kindly show the guest out! This person has nothing to do with ."
