Even though she had prepared for it and thought about it a thousand tis in her heart, hearing it from soone else still felt different.
Listening to Violet Ford’s words, Evelyn Clayton felt as if a knife were twisting in her heart.
But clearly, now was not the ti to dwell on pain. She remained composed, nodded slightly, and said in a calm voice, "That’s right. Although it’s just a guess and there’s no concrete evidence yet, many signs already indicate — now I just need to wait for the police officer’s ssage. Once he relocates Lars Alden’s family here, it will be much more convenient for to investigate many things."
Pausing for a mont, Evelyn continued, "And why I am telling you all this today, surely I don’t need to spell it out?"
The advantage in the conversation seed to be quickly shifting in Evelyn Clayton’s favor, as she brought the opportunity for cooperation, offering the Ford siblings a great chance to bring down Sumr Monroe.
But they were all very aware that in this incident, there were no winners.
"The person behind Sumr Monroe, what if they are a force that none of us can shake?" Franklin Ford raised his eyes to look at Evelyn Clayton, "Have you thought through what the consequences might be?"
Evelyn raised an eyebrow slightly, "I don’t know what my consequences will be, but I know yours. If you let Sumr Monroe continue like this, there will be no Ford Group in the future."
The subtext of Franklin Ford’s words was obvious.
He wanted to know exactly how capable Evelyn Clayton was, and whether she was qualified to be their partner.
They had collaborated many tis before, but this ti the risk was extrely high.
Franklin’s concerns were very normal.
But Evelyn’s purpose from the start was very clear; she was determined to cooperate with the Ford siblings.
Because they shared a common enemy and had connections she didn’t have.
So, in near provocation, Evelyn told them they had no choice.
As her words fell, she caught a fleeting flash of admiration in Franklin’s eyes.
"Since we’ve co to this point, Evelyn, I won’t beat around the bush," Violet’s voice was very deep, "we do want to pull Sumr Monroe down. To be frank, as long as we can get her out of the Ford Family, I’d do anything."
"We can work together, and I’m more than willing to cooperate with you. You’re quite an excellent partner. But in this matter, there’s no standing still; retreat ans plunging into an abyss," Violet gazed deeply at her, "aren’t you afraid of being shattered to pieces?"
Evelyn casually poured tea for the two, unruffled: "When I was eleven, it was the one-year anniversary of my father’s death. My mother was at ho, dead drunk, while I took the lone bus from the city with just a coin to visit Silent Crest Cetery. The bus broke down halfway, seven kiloters away from the cetery."
"I used my clothes to cover the folded paper money for my father because I had used newspaper instead of gold paper — I couldn’t afford it back then. I was afraid the rain would soak the paper money and that I wouldn’t reach the cetery before dark, so I ran while trying to flag down passing cars."
As the tea stread into the jade cup, Evelyn’s face held a faint smile, her voice soft, "At that mont, I was thinking, no matter what, I must seek justice and revenge for my father, if he was truly wronged."
"Otherwise, not only would my father have died in vain, but my pain and embarrassnt that day would also beco worthless."
"So, Sister Violet, being shattered ans nothing, because in my countless painful days and nights, I have already broken and rebuilt myself many, many tis."
