Jessie had a driver’s license. She thought she would be a bit rusty after not driving for so long, but she quickly got the hang of it, and her movents were smooth.

She rolled down the car window and smiled. "Thank you, Mr. Harper. I really like this car. How much did you pay for it? I’ll handle the car loan myself."

Kevin shook his head. "I bought it directly, so you don’t need to."

"Oh." She was montarily stunned before she corrected herself, "In that case, I’ll transfer the money for the car to you later."

"No need." He shook his head firmly. "I already said it’s a gift for you. Stop thinking about paying back."

After saying that, he turned back to his pickup truck with a displeased expression and drove off.

Jessie pouted; this man really had a temper. Trying to clear things up with him only seed to offend him further.

She collected her emotions and soon started the vehicle, heading to the store.

It was almost evening when Lilian and Steve arrived. She quickly greeted them, "Co, sit down. I’ll make you both so coffee."

Lilian smiled and showed off the bicycle behind her. "Jessie, didn’t you say your bike was broken? My boss and I chipped in so money to buy you this. How do you like it? I even picked out a pink one."

She blinked expectantly, waiting for Jessie’s reaction.

"This..." Jessie felt a bit awkward.

Before she could speak, Lilian noticed the sedan at the door. "Whose car is this? It has a pretty good design."

"Mine..." Jessie carefully raised her hand.

"What?"

Faced with Lilian’s surprised gaze, she simply explained the situation.

Steve and Lilian exchanged a glance, feeling a bit embarrassed. They originally wanted to buy a new bike to make Jessie happy, but Kevin had already bought her a sedan.

Jessie saw through their thoughts and waved her hand dismissively. "Oh, don’t worry about it—your thoughts are what matters. I’ll make the coffee, so just take a seat and relax for a bit."

Lilian raised an eyebrow. "Jessie, your husband is quite good. First it was flowers, then jewelry, and now a new car. It shows how much he values you."

Jessie pushed the coffee toward them. "Enough; just drink your coffee. That should keep your mouth busy."

Steve, who had been silent, suggested, "How about we all have dinner tonight? I managed to get a reservation at that hard-to-book restaurant."

He looked at Jessie, awaiting her response.

She apologetically waved her hand. "Sorry, I already have dinner planned with my mom and husband tonight."

"Alright then." Steve nodded with a hint of disappointnt in his eyes.

"Are you driving there?"

"No, my husband will pick up later," she replied casually, paying no attention to his increasingly somber expression.

She didn’t want to drive the new car ho, afraid of what William might say if he saw it.

"I have so things to do, so I’ll head out first." Steve smiled politely before walking away.

Lilian watched his back in confusion. "Why does my boss look so out of it?"

"Really?" Jessie peered out to get a better look.

“Beep beep!”

A car horn sounded at the door, and Lilian turned around with a smile. "Speak of the devil—we were just talking about him, and now Mr. Harper’s here. Too bad my boss left so quickly; otherwise, he could’ve t Mr. Harper too."

Steve, walking away in the distance, couldn’t help but turn back. He saw a man get out of an old pickup, whose stature and deanor resembled the Harper family’s heir.

He rembered Lilian previously ntioning that Jessie’s husband was Kevin, who had the sa surna as the Harper family’s head. Could it be...?

A Maybach suddenly stopped at the traffic light before him. He imdiately recognized the license plate as Kevin’s. Through the tinted windows, he couldn’t see clearly, but the silhouette inside looked remarkably like Kevin’s.

At that point, he realized he was mistaken. After all, how could Jessie’s husband possibly be the heir of the Harper family?

anwhile, inside the car, Chris turned to Grandpa Harper, speaking helplessly.

"Grandpa, if you’re so interested in my brother and sister-in-law’s relationship, why not just ask them directly rather than sneakily watching?"

Grandpa Harper knocked him on the head. "You don’t understand. Do you think your brother would honestly tell anything?"

Chris thought about it and agreed. He just didn’t understand why Grandpa Harper had to drag him out of the office to accompany him just to observe them.

Inside the store, Lilian quickly grabbed her bag and greeted Kevin, "Hello, Mr. Harper. I won’t interrupt you two lovebirds, so I’ll go ahead and leave now."

Kevin nodded, acknowledging her.

She imdiately turned around and left, making sure to give Jessie a cheering gesture before leaving.

Jessie looked helpless as she went and got into Kevin’s car. Together, they headed to Laura’s place.

Laura, knowing they were coming, was holding Luke in her arms as she waited for them early. Seeing Kevin’s car, she waved her hand.

"Here, over here..."

The couple got out of the car, carrying the gifts they had bought yesterday. Laura eyed Kevin from head to toe, her face filled with joy. She truly was pleased with this son-in-law.

"You didn’t need to bring gifts." She smiled.

"Mom, it’s only proper for to do this," Kevin said politely.

Just then, her phone rang. She took it out to see an unfamiliar number. Before she could frown, Jessie peeked over and glanced at the caller, imdiately declining the call.

She suspected it might be her cousin calling her, who was trying to call Laura after failing to get through to her.

The caller was persistent, calling several tis. Just as Jessie was about to block the number, Kevin spoke in a deep voice, "Better answer it. What if it’s soone else needing Mom urgently?"

Jessie considered his point but feared it was her clingy relatives again.

He saw her worry and softened his tone.

"Don’t worry, I’m here. Even if it’s them, we’ll figure out a way to deal with them."

His words made her heart feel warm. Although their marriage was sudden and they had no feelings for each other, not to ntion he had many faults, he was still doing well by treating her this way.

Laura’s smile broadened at Kevin’s reassurance.

Jessie took a glance at him before answering the call.

"Hello? Aunt? It’s..."

Before the voice on the other end could finish, she imdiately retorted, "I don’t care who you are. Couldn’t get through to , so now you’re bothering my mom? I made myself clear before—leave us alone."

"Jessie, is that how you talk to your elders?"

A voice ca through, aged but authoritative.

She recognized it as her grandfather’s voice, who had never been able to distinguish right from wrong as he enjoyed flaunting his authority.
