His eyes, deep as the night, reflected the figures of Serena Jennings and Ethan White.

Serena looked very competent, outstanding, and exhibited the deanor of an entrepreneur.

This rehabilitation center remarkably gained so many clients just a few days after Serena took over, making it evident.

Caleb Lockwood watched the way Serena and Ethan worked together, feeling a lump in his throat.

"Serena..."

He began to speak, his voice low yet bitter.

Serena was indeed drawn in by his voice.

But it was just for a mont.

Seeing that Caleb had nothing further to say, Serena turned her head back, continuing to discuss work with Ethan.

Just as she was about to leave the hall with Ethan, Caleb spoke again:

"I have sothing to discuss with you."

Caleb quickly added a clause:

"Sothing very important."

As Serena turned around, Ethan grasped her wrist.

Caleb’s expression changed.

Serena smiled at Ethan and then said to Caleb, "Sorry, I have work here. You can schedule a ti with my assistant."

"I need to talk to you now."

Caleb’s voice was low, but his tone carried a pressing urgency.

Serena looked at Caleb with an expression of helplessness and annoyance, like a fist hitting Caleb in the chest.

"Then you’ll have to wait until I’m done."

"Okay."

Caleb agreed imdiately.

However, Serena’s idea of waiting was three hours.

Caleb stood there like a utility pole, honestly waiting for Serena for three hours.

Three hours later, Serena finally finished the pressing matters on her hands and walked out with Ethan, chatting and laughing.

"Serena..."

Upon suddenly hearing Caleb’s voice, Serena was startled.

This mont made Caleb realize that Serena had completely forgotten he was waiting for her.

Caleb clenched his fist, feeling uncomfortable would be an understatent.

"Can you spare so ti now?"

Serena could hear the anger in Caleb’s voice, although she was surprised that Caleb was suppressing it.

"Alright..."

Beside her, Ethan slightly lowered his gaze.

Actually, he didn’t want Serena and Caleb to be together.

Their divorce ant there was nothing to discuss.

But since Serena agreed, he couldn’t object.

"Serena, be careful."

Ethan patted Serena on the shoulder.

"Don’t worry, he won’t dare do anything to ."

Serena’s smile was bright.

In fact, she thought similarly to Ethan.

The other day at The Lockwood Group, she had said everything she wanted to say to Caleb.

She didn’t think Caleb had anything else to discuss with her.

If it was about Claire Shaw, it was even more unnecessary.

Caleb was such a smart person, he couldn’t possibly be unaware of her attitude toward Claire Shaw.

"Let’s go, we’ll talk in my office."

Serena led Caleb to the general manager’s office in the rehabilitation center.

Serena sat inside the desk, while Caleb sat outside of it.

The two faced each other.

When had it all begun?

eting Serena, chatting with her, staying alone together... It all felt like formal business had to be conducted in the office.

Seeing Caleb frown deeply with growing anger, Serena couldn’t help but speak:

"You insisted on waiting."

Hearing this, Caleb frowned even more.

Serena had misunderstood the reason for his anger.

"Serena..."

Caleb began, his eyes looking straight into Serena’s like a deep sea.

"I will no longer help Claire... The earlier 1.5 billion was the last compensation I gave her."

The words Caleb spoke were resolute.

Yet Serena found it baffling.

"So... what you wanted to discuss was this?"

"Yes."

Seeing Caleb nod, Serena laughed wryly.

"Whether you help Claire Shaw or not is between you and her—it’s none of my business... Moreover, after signing the financial oversight agreent, I don’t think you have any capacity to help her rise again."

After calmly saying this, Serena stood up.

"If that’s all you wanted to say..."

Serena pressed the phone’s intercom:

"Secretary Lee, co in, please see Caleb..."

Before Serena finished speaking, Caleb hung up the phone.

She raised her eyes to glare at Caleb with displeasure, Caleb’s brows furrowed, his expression stern.

What Serena had done to him earlier, he had done the sa to Claire that day.

Caleb felt a pang in his stomach again.

"I no longer love Claire..."

Serena’s eyes lightly lifted.

"I admit... I have a change of heart..."

The last few words, Caleb bit heavily.

As he spoke them, he stared intently at Serena, his dark eyes like a quagmire, easily capable of drowning soone in them.

Serena was looking at him, too.

Her large, watery eyes were like clear lake water, stirred into ripples by his words.

Caleb knew very well—

As long as he didn’t choose Claire, Serena would definitely return to his arms.

He clearly rembered how much Serena loved him.

Every ti they dated, he was always at least an hour late, yet Serena always waited patiently, never complaining.

Despite being allergic to pollen, she never told him because she loved the flowers he gave her.

She wore whatever clothes he wanted her to wear.

She dressed herself however he liked her to look.

Eating and watching movies, she always followed his lead.

After getting married, she washed his clothes and cooked for him without a word of complaint.

In bed, she allowed him to do whatever he wanted, giving herself to his every desire.

Caleb was convinced that losing and regaining, breaking and nding was always Serena’s wish.

"Serena, I think we can..."

"Then let wish you and Miss Wendy Linton of The Linton Family a long and happy life together in advance."

Caleb stood frozen in place, then saw Serena calling in Secretary Lee.

"Secretary Lee, please see off the guest for ."

Secretary Lee arrived next to Caleb, politely saying:

"President Lockwood, please..."

Caleb had no idea how he left Serena’s office; he just felt muddled, dizzy, and as if a piece had been hollowed out from his chest, leaving it empty.

As he exited the elevator, he ca face to face with Ethan White.

He walked out of the elevator as Ethan entered.

Before the elevator doors closed, he heard Ethan in the elevator saying:

"Stop pestering Serena. Reconciliation is a plot only found in novels."

The elevator doors closed tightly.

Caleb’s face reflected on the elevator door, resembling an asura from hell.

Today, Lana Xavier skipped work.

Although taking personal leave would result in a proportional deduction of salary, she still applied for it.

During lunch break, she went to Celestid’s branch office to see Julian Xavier.

Because she had made a loving bento for Julian Xavier.

This was the first ti in Lana’s life she personally cooked a al, following the app’s steps carefully, failing several tis before achieving success.

Lana’s fingers were covered in many band-aids.

Julian Xavier, being very attentive, noticed it imdiately.

"To punish you for not taking care of yourself, accompany to a nice place this afternoon!"

Julian Xavier, as the branch manager, had the privilege to skip work straightforwardly.

But Lana could not.

Yet, she couldn’t bear being apart from Julian, and feared refusing him would upset him, so she lied and made excuses to take leave.

The "nice place" Julian ntioned was, of course, a hotel.

Lately, every date with Julian ended up at a hotel.

Though Lana had never dated before, she always felt it odd to go straight to a hotel each ti.

But Julian said it was a sign of his love for her.

In the hotel suite, after being together, Lana lay there, blushing and savoring the mont, while Julian was playing on his phone.

Then, his phone rang, showing Claire Shaw as the caller.
