Lu Jing's face was deathly pale, with tightly pursed lips that had already begun to bleed.
Jiang Ye's eyes were tightly shut, his teeth clattering with a 'click, click' sound, his temples throbbing with bulging veins as if he were trying with all his might to suppress sothing. Both of them looked to be in considerable pain.
After a long while:
"Let go! I'm at work!"
Her voice was very light, conveying a feeble and pale sensation.
The man panicked montarily, then regained his impassive face, his grip remaining firm and unyielding. Instead, he asked word by word,
"You are in such a hurry to leave because you know you've done sothing wrong and feel guilty?"
His indifferent and rciless taunting caused Lu Jing to stiffen all over. Her mouth opened and closed several tis before she finally spoke slowly,
"Yes, I have regrets, but Jiang Ye, I have never regretted breaking up with you!"
Each word was spoken with utmost clarity.
The man's icy gaze shot towards the woman like knives:
"Lu Jing, you damn dare to say that!"
One could feel the man's hand, imprisoning the woman's wrist, trembling.
Lu Jing pressed her lips tightly together, shifting her gaze slightly away, her voice returning to calm:
"It's been six years. I don't want to dwell on the past grudges. Jiang Ye, I hope, the last connection between us, is that of strangers among strangers."
Strangers among strangers?
A smile suddenly appeared on Jiang Ye's face.
It was a strange smile, stiff and forced, clearly out of intense anger.
Before Lu Jing could react, she was forcefully pulled closer.
At this mont, they were no more than half a fist's width apart, close enough to sense each other's breath:
"Lu Jing, don't forget, you owe !
You'll never be able to repay it in this lifeti!"
After saying this, he finally let go, but the woman's wrist was already marked with dark purples and blues.
Lu Jing was in a daze, standing there disoriented, unable to react for a while.
Until a nurse ran up to the door of the ward, panting heavily:
"Doctor Lu, patient in bed 3 has stopped breathing!"
Lu Jing snapped back to reality:
"I'm coming!"

Watching the woman's figure dart away, Jiang Ye's eyes churned with deep and chilling emotions.
Lu Jing had already reached the other ward and after a quick check:
"Prepare the defibrillator, establish an intravenous line imdiately, administer 1mg of epinephrine."
"Yes!"
At that mont, nothing else mattered.
Only two words echoed in her mind: Save lives!
Five minutes passed...
Ten minutes passed...
Fifteen minutes passed...
"He's moving; he's waking up!"
For a mont, everyone in the ward felt the urge to cry.
Lu Jing let out a long sigh of relief. The patient's family mber nearly fell to their knees in front of her, but she quickly pulled them back to their feet in ti.
"Thank you, doctor, thank you!"
"Don't ntion it, this is what we're supposed to do. Though the patient was revived, further tests are needed; please, calm down."
"Okay, I'll calm down; I'll do it right now."
Everything that had happened in the ward was, in fact, observed by soone.

Lu Jing, from beginning to end, never noticed. She rubbed her sore hands and returned to her office.
Afterward, the busyness subsided.
At eight o'clock sharp, the colleague taking over arrived.
...
Half an hour later, Lu Jing returned to her dormitory. She didn't even have the energy to eat, and as soon as she hit the bed, she fell fast asleep.
This sleep was deep and undisturbed.
By the ti she opened her eyes again, four hours had passed.
'Buzz, buzz...' the cell phone on the bedside table continued to vibrate incessantly.
