His sharp brows furrowed slightly. He couldn’t help but lean down beside her and say in a low, worried voice, "In your current condition, you really shouldn’t be walking around outside for too long..."
Sensing that he wanted to send her back to that suffocating, oppressive wooden cabin, An Jin quickly shook her head and took two steps back in protest. "I’m feeling fine now. It’s no problem for to co out for a walk and get so sun. You don’t have to be so worried—"
Gasp!
The words were barely out of her mouth before she was proven wrong.
As she took those two steps back, her foot caught on a small stone. If this had happened before, it would have been nothing, but now her body was as weak as a wet noodle. The slightest resistance was enough to make her lose control and fall backward.
A rfolk’s speed was hindered on land, so Xi couldn’t reach her in ti. Song Yi, however, had lightning-fast reflexes. He caught her, his strong, sturdy arm wrapping securely around the small of her back.
An Jin sighed, still shaken. "Thank you. It’s a good thing you were here. Otherwise, that fall would have made the past few months of treatnt a complete waste."
His heart ached for her, yet he couldn’t help but smile faintly. "Not just now. You need to be careful whenever you’re out and about."
With the two of them so close, the female’s sweet fragrance easily wafted into his keen sense of sll, and for a mont, Song Yi found himself reliving the dazzling impression she’d made when they first t.
But now, she also possessed a vulnerability that made one want to protect her with ticulous care.
"If you really want to look around outside, walking for a long ti isn’t good for you. I can fly you around for a bit." It had to be said that while both Song Yi and Ling Hong were the serious, unsmiling type, Song Yi’s emotional intelligence was clearly much higher.
"Okay." An Jin nodded. She didn’t refuse; it was an excellent suggestion given her current state.
Xi glanced between the two of them, keenly aware that he couldn’t break into the atmosphere they shared. He sighed inwardly. ’This Eagle Beast is so cunning.’
He then put on a pitiful look and blinked his glistening blue eyes at An Jin. "Well, Ah Jin, you go ahead and look around. As it happens, sothing’s co up with the Sea Clan that I need to go check on."
"That fox said you can eat seafood again. Haven’t you been craving it for a while? What do you want to eat? I’ll go catch it for you in the sea!"
"I’m not picky, you can just bring whatever you find. My appetite hasn’t been very good these past few days."
After Xi left, the few Beastn who had been helping also returned to their posts one by one. The little cubs, their bellies stuffed and round, flopped onto the ground in a star shape with little "AWOO AWOOs."
They adorably squinted their drowsy eyes, bathing their little bellies in the rare, warm sunlight. Lying on the ground, they stretched out luxuriously, their little paws splaying open like blossoming flowers.
The system assigned another random task: take five or more of the little cubs for a walk nearby. The pretext was that a little post-al exercise is essential for good health.
However, An Jin considered her current condition—taking one step and panting for three—and politely declined the task. The system promptly assigned her another one.
[DING—Random daily task assigned: Patrol the territory of Sheng’an City!
Ti Limit: 6 hours
Reward: 10 gold coins]
[How can a qualified administrator not patrol her own territory regularly? This is a daily task, so please rember to participate actively every day!~]
’A daily task I can do every day, and the reward isn’t bad either.’
Ten gold coins a day ant over 3,000 gold coins a year. By that calculation, it would be enough to buy two Rejuvenation Pills.
’Looks like I’ll have to trouble Song Yi from now on,’ An Jin thought to herself.
"If you have the ti, could you take for a flight around the city every day?" An Jin asked.
Of course, she was prepared to be rejected. After all, Song Yi was in charge of the arduous task of leading the patrols and might not have ti to take her out for a joyride.
"I can," he agreed readily, almost without a second thought.
"You are the City Lord of this city, in charge of its entire operation and all the Beastn within it. How could I possibly refuse you?" ’She’s still too polite, too humble,’ he thought. ’As the City Lord, she could give any order directly, and I would never refuse her.’
"It might interfere with your usual patrol work."
Song Yi smiled. "The Eagle Beasts I brought with are not as weak as you think. They are more than capable of handling the regular patrols." The implication was clear: she shouldn’t feel burdened in any way.
"That’s wonderful, then. Thank you, Song Yi," An Jin replied, her eyes curving into a smile.
Song Yi said nothing, but inwardly, he was incredibly glad he had co along.
