"Huh, he was asleep?" An Jin blinked in astonishnt.
’Well, what do you know. I was right after all. The snake really was just hiding in a cave to sleep.’
Through the misty moonlight, An Jin looked up and saw a trace of drowsiness on the man’s bewitchingly handso face.
’He’d clearly been sleeping soundly on a full stomach, and I just forced him to reboot.’
After An Jin and Ling Hong beca mates, Gu Yin had been furious, thinking she didn’t care about him. So he’d hidden away in a distant cave and fallen into a deep, heedless sleep.
Just a mont ago, while deep in slumber, Gu Yin had sensed his mate’s life was in danger. He was startled awake and, without a second thought, rushed over to save her.

’If I had been even a step too late, if I’d seen the ground littered with her gnawed-on remains... I would’ve lost my mind.’
The hazy moonlight couldn’t conceal the murderous aura that suddenly flared up on his face. An Jin noticed sothing was wrong with him, and her heart couldn’t help but tremble. "...Are you okay?"
He shook his head, reining in the emotion in his eyes. He wearily rubbed his temples. "A few days ago, I happened to eat a few Demon Beasts. They probably haven’t fully digested yet, so I feel a bit unwell."

Gu Yin gave her a surprised look, not understanding why the female’s expression had suddenly changed so drastically. He heard her say urgently, "Back then, Ling Hong was exiled from the tribe because soone falsely accused him of being tainted by Demonic Qi and claid he might turn into a Demon Beastman!"
"Even though the Demonic Qi on a Magic Beast Crystal Core will dissipate over ti, turning it into a normal Crystal Core, you actually ate a Demon Beast raw..."
Of course, Gu Yin knew what she was worried about.
He quite enjoyed being worried over by his beloved mate, but he didn’t think it was a big deal. He smiled and pinched her cheek. "Don’t worry. I’ve been like this my whole life."
"When I was just a little snake, the forest often suffered from beast tides and widespread famine. Sotis, when I was starving, I’d recklessly go after Demon Beasts and Giant Beasts to eat."

An Jin’s fingers touched Gu Yin’s cheek. Cupping his handso face in her hands, she studied him carefully for a long ti in the hazy moonlight.

The shock on Ling Hong’s face gave way to even deeper self-reproach. He remained silent in the face of Gu Yin’s taunt.

’I really am useless. I couldn’t even protect my own mate.’
’If she had died because of this,’ Ling Hong thought, ’the imnse guilt and tornt would have driven to follow her.’
Back at the tribe, the clusters of wooden huts were quiet. The Beastn had fallen into a deep slumber after a long day of hard work, and the incident had not disturbed them.
Gu Yin carried An Jin back to their wooden hut with Ling Hong following close behind. This imdiately brought them to the serious question of who the female would be sleeping with tonight.
