Aurora’s P.O.V.
Darius was starting to suspect . He was really believing whatever Rebecca was telling him. That ans I have to keep myself more low-key.
It was a while before Darius left the room, and then I went to the bath with the demon maid helping . After the bath, they dried and then they brought out a wig for to wear while I was slipping into my gown.
My gaze followed as I asked, "Who is the owner of this wig?"
"It’s for you, my lady. Lord Darius has prepared one for you," one of the maids said.
I rembered Darius telling that my short red hair does not fit to his liking and I should try to put on a white wig until my red hair has grown longer. I sighed and I collected the wig from them and I put it on. I gazed at myself in the mirror and God, the white looked good on . It was beautiful. It was a beautiful sight that made my stomach crumble.
But nothing beats that red hair. That red hair was my identity. It was what made . It was what made authentic and everything.
After they helped style it, I told them to help put it in a bun and I ate my breakfast in the room. I stayed in the room until it was noon, doing nothing but sighing, restyling my new white wig and everything. But soon enough, I got so bored, I decided to go for a walk. I told the demon maid not to follow . I got it by myself.
While I was taking my walk, I passed through hallways that looked absolutely beautiful and stunning. Yeah, these demons really do have a talent of making things very beautiful. But their high house does not beat the high house I grew up in.
And then, I stumbled upon a group of demons pulling soone.
"Oh, you wretch! I told you to make it hot water. How dare you make it cold!"
"I’m sorry! This was never my intention—"
Bam! They hit the human girl on the floor. I’m guessing she was human because she does not have white hair like they do, and she looked so frail and weak, and no energy was coming from her. Another one took her by the hair and started yanking it. They slamd her as her face hit the wall. Blood spilled from her mouth. As tears fell—
"I’m sorry! I’ll go get the hot water. I’ll go get your hot water, I promise—"
"No, you failed," another one of the demons said. "You know you have to pay with your life. I’ve told you these humans don’t have what it takes to serve us. They are weak. They are worthless. Kill her!"
They said it between themselves and they started dragging this human maid, and that was when I stepped in.
"Leave her alone," I said.
And then there was total silence. They all turned to to be sure if I was the one that spoke, and I nodded.
"You heard ? Leave her alone."
One of them ca forward. "And who are you to co near us and co and spill nonsense from your mouth, little demon?" he said after looking at my hair— which was a wig.
"Do you not know ?" I said. "Look at very well."
"I’m sorry, we do not know you. Now get out. Don’t you have—don’t you—don’t you have classes to be in, little demon?" he said, assuming that I was a demon.
"No, I do not."
And then they just ignored . And they turned back to the human maid. The one dragged her from behind and another gave a huge blow on her stomach, and then she fell almost unconscious.
I imdiately stepped in between them and then stood right in front of her.
"If you dare harm her again, I promise you, I will hurt you," I said.
And then one scoffed. "Who are you, little demon?"
"I am Aurora. Not a demon. A witch. The wife— or the soon-to-be wife— of Darius and the mother of your future heir. You might want to control your hunger when it cos to ," I said.
And then they gazed at each other. They whispered sothing and then they turned.
"So you are the little witch Darius brought in. The one who escaped on the wedding night and you killed so of the demons."
And then one spoke, "She’s the one. The red-haired witch. This bitch killed my brother."
One lunged— he almost charged at — as another imdiately pulled him back.
"You do not want to attack her. Darius will have your head if you do."
"Fine. It haunts . Just know that the mont Darius is out of the picture, I will take you out. I will rip you into pieces."
And then they pulled themselves away.
And I found the human maid on the ground, and then I helped her get up.
"Thank you so much for helping ," she said, and I nodded.
"Oh, it’s my pleasure."
"No, thank you. I don’t know what I would have done without you. You truly are an angel. Thank you for helping . They would have killed , and my—"
She paused, and then she let out a painful gasp. She tried to fall, but I held her back.
"Careful, careful. What are you doing? Are you okay?"
"No... my baby." She said, holding her stomach tight. "They punched in my stomach. I don’t want my baby to die. I don’t want to have a miscarriage."
I looked at her stomach.
"Are you pregnant?"
"Yes, I am."
"Then what are you doing here?"
"I... I..." she stamred.
"You should not be serving these demons when you are pregnant. You are human. You should go back to your human kingdoms. This is not for you."
"You said you are a witch, right?" she said, looking at .
And I nodded. "Yes, I am. I am a witch, not a demon. This is just a wig," I said as I pulled out my red hair underneath the wig, and then she gasped.
"It’s really you. The witch who stood up to them. You really serve as an example to us—the witches around here."
"What? You are a witch?" I said, and she nodded.
"I am... I am not the only witch around here. But I can’t disclose all the identities to you. But you have no energy from you—"
"I sealed in my powers."
"I should have run away, but... I am waiting for soone," she said.
"Waiting for soone? How? How would you risk your life and your baby’s life exactly?"
"I was running away, but then I realized that I have white marks on my hand. And white marks—"
"White marks?" I said.
And she nodded. "White marks on one’s hand—on a witch’s hand—signify she’s pregnant. Oh, you have it too," she said, gazing at my hand. "I think you are pregnant."
"No, I am—" I put my hands away from her. "I... it must be from the... you know, I’m not just... you know, I’m not," I said.
And then she nodded.
"Well... I don’t know, but I’m not sure. But I think you are. These sa white marks appeared on my hand when I was supposed... when I was about to run away. I fell in love with a demon here. We were both in love, but... he beca a general demon, and he has to marry a demon wife. And I had to pull myself away from him to avoid him from making foolish mistakes.
But then I realized I’m pregnant. And I can’t run away. I can’t cross the borders while carrying a baby inside of , so I decided to seal my power inside of myself and beco a human, keeping my pregnancy secret. And that’s how these demons keep bullying . And I’m not even sure if my baby is still intact inside of ."
"Your baby is still there," I said, looking at her stomach. "I can feel the baby inside of you. The baby is fine."
"And then—" she looked at my stomach. "And then at your stomach. I think I can feel yours too."
"No, I’m not," I said, covering my stomach. "I’m not pregnant. I cannot be pregnant. It’s impossible," I said, looking at the white marks on my hand. "They are like... leachable paints. These are just random. I’ve had this ever since I was a child," I said.
And she nodded. "Oh, I’m sorry for judging. Imdiately—I must be wrong. I don’t even have my powers to see if you’re pregnant or not."
"Yes," I said, and she bowed.
"Thank you for helping . I don’t know what I would have done without you." She bowed, she smiled, and then she walked away.
And while she was walking, while she was walking, I saw a demon hiding in the shadows. I imdiately turned to his front, and he stumbled back.
"I’m sorry," he said.
I gazed at him completely. I gazed at him, and then back at her retreating figure as we reached walking away.
"You’re the father of the child she is carrying?" I asked.
And then he nodded. "I don’t want her to know I know about the baby. But thank you for helping her. I can’t save her, and I can’t marry her."
Then I held his hand. "You should take responsibility of your own actions. She can’t keep being bullied like this. Sooner or later, the baby inside of her will die from exhaustion. You need to step up."
"But I can’t. I am a general of demons. I can’t just—"
And then I tapped his shoulder. "I don’t know what you will do, but you need to do the right thing."
And I simply walked away.
