Chapter 53

~Rael’s POV~

A loud voice snapped through the corridor. "Rael!"

He froze.

The voice called again. "Rael!"

Slowly, he turned to see a tall boy jogging up to him, concern etched on his face.

But just as he was about to respond, sothing else caught his attention. From the corner of his eye, he saw a girl at her locker, holding a small box.

She had frozen at the sound of his na. Her hand trembled slightly before she caught the box that had slipped through her fingers, straightened up, and rushed off without looking back.

Before he could focus on her, the boy clapped a hand on his shoulder.

"Hey man, what’s up? I’ve been looking for you everywhere."

Rael blinked, then glanced back toward the hallway where the girl had disappeared. But she was already gone.

"I..."

"Tsk, you look like a ss. Co on."

**Flashback Ends**

~Rael’s POV~

I lifted my chin slightly, staring at the mirror again. Then, slowly, I tilted my head to the side—a slow hiss escaped as I felt the pressure in my gums shift. My fangs protruded. My eyes flashed a deep crimson.

"I look the sa. But younger. Different. I may not be a royal... but I was still powerful."

This body was different, but it humd with raw, dangerous, untad power.

"After my grueso death, I got a new body and another chance," I murmured. "Tsk. Looks like the gods still favour ."

As soon as the words left my lips, my brows pulled together. Who was the assassin? And why was the original body’s owner targeted in the first place? And now... soone was trying to take that from again?

"Tsk," I muttered, my voice low.

I had to find the sleazy sli who wanted dead and wants to put an end to my second chance at life first, before he realises I am alive.

"Whoever you are... You made one mistake. You let live."

And though this ti and age are different from my past, this body’s mories have been helping since I arrived.

I stepped away from the mirror, my gaze flickering around my room. Even now, everything felt strangely different but welcoming.

I only felt sothing similar once before—with Solstice Winter, my forr fiancée. And yet...

When I see Spring Kaine, sothing inside stirs. Sothing ancient and real, just like before.

She seems to be more than she appears. And I intend to find out what it is even if it ans exposing my own truths to do it

~Serissa’s POV~

It had been a day or two since I last felt normal.

The charm I’d used on Spring—it was supposed to bring her downfall, not mine. But ever since then, I hadn’t felt right. My skin prickled when people got too close to .

My chest clenched when soone rely smiled at . And the rage... the rage bubbled just beneath the surface like acid threatening to spill.

Anyti I got close to soone, my irritation spiked. My hands itched. My jaw clenched. It was like I couldn’t breathe in shared air without feeling violated.

I knew I had to speak to my mum about this, but when I called her yesterday, her maid answered, claiming she was away and wished not to be disturbed to attend an important eting.

I exhaled slowly as I stepped into school that morning, keeping my chin high and back straight. The school’s Alpha Gas had begun, and every corner I turned, people were talking about it. But not about .

They weren’t saying my na.

I hadn’t been able to properly participate since my last match ended in what so dared to call a tantrum.

A tantrum? Please.

They should’ve shown restraint. Still, whispers followed like shadows. I’d beco the villain in everyone’s mouth.

But I wasn’t done. I had already launched a squad campaign—passing out cute little boxes of treats with my initials in glitter, winning back the commoners with sugar and sparkle.

I was determined to reclaim my na. Serissa Winters. Royal bloodline. Future queen of the damned, if necessary.

And yet... all anyone talked about was Spring Kaine.

Spring Kaine this. Spring Kaine that. "She’s so strong, so fast, so humble."

Ugh!

I spotted Tyrion walking away from his locker and my body moved before I could stop it. He wasn’t with Spring, which ant opportunity.

Golden.

He used to be mine. Before that ridiculous little human adopted stray werewolf word her way into his life.

I quickened my pace.

"Hey Tyrion," I called out, adding a sugar-dipped lilt to my voice.

He didn’t stop. Just gave a lazy wave without turning.

I clenched my jaw and hurried to block his path. No way was I going to be brushed off like so unranked nobody.

"Tyrion. I was calling you," I said again, stepping in front of him.

He paused, but his face stayed flat. "And I waved," he said, voice empty as a dried well, and tried to move past .

"Okay, okay, wait up." I lifted my hand to stop him. "I just wanted to talk."

He sighed and folded his arms, eyes like silver knives. "Talk, Serissa. What is it now?"

I tried to smile. "I just... I saw you weren’t with Spring. Thought maybe you finally rembered what real quality felt like."

His brow twitched.

"But really, it’s probably for the best," I continued, stepping closer. "You don’t need soone like her—human blood, raised in the slums, no sense of grace or control. She’s beneath you. Honestly, watching you two together made cringe."

His expression didn’t change, but sothing in the air around him dropped. Cold and heavy.

I reached to brush a strand of hair behind my ear.

"I an, you were perfect before she ca into the picture. You were mine. We fit. Now look at you—hollow-eyed, moody. She’s basically draining you with all her, ’oh I have five mayes’, nonsense. Please, your title and rank as a Regional Alpha far surpass that."

Tyrion’s voice was ice. "Do you ever hear yourself speak?"
