Wei Lai was ready to rest when she got a call from Cheng Qiaobei, urging her to rush over to the tenth floor.
Stepping out of the elevator, she saw Cheng Qiaobei standing outside, "What’s up?"
Cheng Qiaobei tilted his head toward the far end of the hallway, "Xia Zhiqing brought us so local specialties."
Wei Lai paused her steps by his side, "You called in the middle of the night just to get the local specialties with you?"
Cheng Qiaobei glanced at her, "It’s not just for , it’s for us. Did you expect to co alone?"
Coming alone this late wasn’t very appropriate, "... Can’t it wait till dayti?"
"Why don’t you ask her when we see her?"
"..."
Xia Zhiqing’s room was on the tenth floor, room 1023, quite a distance from the elevator. As for why she picked such a remote location, it was a request from her assistant, who said Xia Zhiqing had trouble sleeping, and noise from being near the elevator would disturb her rest.
They reached Xia Zhiqing’s room, and Cheng Qiaobei knocked gently. A sweet voice ca from the other side of the door, "Coming, hold on a second."
Hearing the response, Cheng Qiaobei took half a step back, standing slightly behind Wei Lai.
Being won, they could naturally detect just how much sugar was in that voice. Wei Lai’s lips curled into a faint smile as she looked back at Cheng Qiaobei; soone indeed had to accompany him.
Cheng Qiaobei twitched his lips, what kind of expression was that.
Light footsteps ca from inside, and the next second, the door opened. Xia Zhiqing stood there in a nightgown, and even though she wore a white shawl, it couldn’t hide her impressive figure.
"Secretary Wei, hey, here are so specialties from my hotown for you to try."
Wei Lai accepted with both hands, "Thank you, Miss Xia."
Xia Zhiqing smiled in return, "No need to be so formal. The company changed the schedule unexpectedly today, and I feel a bit guilty about it, troubling Chairman Cheng to send soone to pick up. I’ll be counting on you to take care of for the next few days while I’m recording the program, Chairman Cheng, don’t find troubleso."
Wei Lai gave a public relations smile, and Cheng Qiaobei responded very officially, his eyes never leaving the ground, "Miss Xia, serving you is sothing our hotel should do. It’s late, so we won’t disturb your rest. Good night."
Xia Zhiqing held the door and waved at Wei Lai with a charming smile, "Bye-bye, good night."
The two of them stepped into the elevator, and it wasn’t until the elevator doors closed that Wei Lai spoke:
"These snacks..." Before she could finish, Cheng Qiaobei said, "You can take them all back with you."
Wei Lai laughed, "Thank you, Chairman Cheng."
Back in her room, Cheng Qiaobei checked the ti again. Better not disturb her sleep.
At that mont, Wei Lai glanced at the gift box on the table. Xia Zhiqing might be young, but she was no fool. When Wei Lai picked her up at the airport during the day, she indirectly inquired if she could change rooms. A simple swap wouldn’t be too troubleso, but she wanted Wei Lai’s help to move to the floor where Zhang Qi’an was staying, which was a bit difficult.
Cheng Qiaobei had instructed that Zhang Qi’an’s room was isolated on a separate floor, and no one, male or female, was allowed to stay on his floor.
After being refused, Xia Zhiqing didn’t show any embarrassnt, which Wei Lai actually admired. It takes courage to express one’s desires, and if it works out, it’s just another opportunity.
Wei Lai dialed the security departnt, "It’s , Wei Lai. Make sure the security asures on Zhang Qi’an’s floor are solid. Arrange a four-shift rotation, and don’t let anyone leave their post."
After hanging up, Wei Lai went to rest as well.
...
The next day, in the morning.
Cheng Qiaobei went to the restaurant for breakfast. Just as he was sitting by the window with a cup of coffee, he saw a tall, well-dressed man walk in. Even with a hat and mask, his handso and outstanding appearance was hard to conceal.
Zhang Qi’an found a quiet spot with his tray and took off his mask, noticing Cheng Qiaobei by the window. He nodded politely, and Cheng Qiaobei returned the gesture.
Wei Lai sat opposite Cheng Qiaobei with pumpkin porridge, at buns, and pickles. She took a sip of porridge and started criticizing his breakfast.
"You’re only having coffee for breakfast, with a busy day ahead, aren’t you afraid you’ll faint from hunger?"
Wei Lai handed him an egg from her tray, "Eat an egg."
Cheng Qiaobei said, "I’m not hungry."
Wei Lai bit into a bun, her cheeks puffing like a hamster as she chewed, "If you don’t eat, I’ll report you to Ning Xi."
Cheng Qiaobei put down the coffee cup and started peeling the egg, saying,
"Stop using her to pressure . Do you think I’m afraid of her?"
Wei Lai drank so porridge, "Not afraid, it’s just respect."
Her tone was teasing, "With your temperant, most n would find you unbearable."
Wei Lai stuffed the rest of the bun into her mouth, purposely eating ssily, and only after swallowing did she say, "I love my career, who needs a man."
Cheng Qiaobei nodded, "Don’t forget, Gao Heng is still waiting for you."
ntioning Gao Heng, Wei Lai fell silent.
"What are you planning to do?" Cheng Qiaobei asked.
Wei Lai continued eating as if she hadn’t heard him.
Cheng Qiaobei took a bite of egg white, chewing slowly, "Don’t pretend you didn’t hear . Last ti, Gao Heng also expressed that you could go anyti if you wanted."
Wei Lai stood up, "I’m going to get so fried eggs."
Cheng Qiaobei shook his head helplessly.
Actually, Gao Heng and Wei Lai were quite a good match, but their biggest issue was the international distance.
Cheng Qiaobei could see that Gao Heng was sincere about Wei Lai, but Wei Lai never accepted it and had explicitly stated they were not possible.
Before returning to the country, Gao Heng ca to the hotel to see Wei Lai. With just one word from her, Gao Heng would have returned imdiately, but Wei Lai refused.
The morning was spent welcoming celebrities, arranging accommodation, and coordinating dining needs. Near noon, Cheng Qiaobei received a call from Zhang Qi’an’s assistant, asking which local hospital was the most reputable.
Cheng Qiaobei rushed to Zhang Qi’an’s room and saw that, having taken off his mask, his face and body were covered in red spots. Cheng Qiaobei frowned and asked,
"Do you have a history of allergies?"
Zhang Qi’an put the mask back on and shook his head, "No, I’ve never had allergies before."
Zhang Qi’an’s assistant, Li Tao, said, "He’s never even had allergies before, not even a cold. He’s in great health. You should check if the bedding in this room is dirty; he woke up like this after just one night."
Cheng Qiaobei said, "I saw him at breakfast this morning, and there were no spots on his face then."
Li Tao paused and turned to Zhang Qi’an, "You went out this morning?"
Zhang Qi’an nodded, "To have breakfast."
Li Tao spoke with helplessness, "President Xue did remind us not to go out except for recording. If a paparazzi captures you with Xia Zhiqing, who knows what kind of scandal could arise."
Zhang Qi’an’s gaze was detached, his tone indifferent, "I won’t avoid going out just to dodge her."
Li Tao quickly tried to appease him, "That’s not what I ant. The key is Xia Zhiqing has connections we can’t afford to offend. If she drags you into a fake relationship for publicity, it won’t hurt her, but it will hurt us. Your current reputation doesn’t match being tied up in topics with her; it will only lower your image. Besides, your current followers are mostly fan-girls; we need to maintain the right image."
What Zhang Qi’an disliked the most was crafting a public persona, "How many tis have I told you, stop using marketing to build a boyfriend image for . I just want to act well. My job is acting."
