Kardia Cathedral.

Laxus sat quietly on the steps with his eyes closed.

He was fully aware that, with the complete annihilation of the Thunder God Tribe, he was now in an extrely disadvantageous position—one where victory was no longer within reach.

However... that did not an he would surrender.

Since childhood, because he was the grandson of Makarov, one of the Ten Wizard Saints, no matter how outstanding or powerful he beca, others would always say: "Ah, as expected of Makarov's grandson."

"Makarov's grandson."

When did it start?

That title, which once filled him with pride, now only brought him irritation.

All his efforts, all his achievents—dismissed with just one simple sentence.

Just because he was Makarov's grandson?

And so, the cracks began to form.

When he learned that his father had been expelled, he couldn't understand it.

And in the end, he completely broke with the old man.

If that were all, then so be it.

But Laxus simply couldn't tolerate it—he couldn't tolerate Fairy Tail falling to such a disgraceful state.

That's right, falling.

As the number one wizard guild in the kingdom, it was now filled with a bunch of slackers who had no ambition, no drive.

"This is not the Fairy Tail I envisioned!!"

He wanted to change it.

He wanted to make Fairy Tail into the strongest wizard guild—one that no one would ever look down upon.

This was Laxus's conviction.

More than anyone else, he loved this guild.

But the vast chasm between his ideals and reality filled him with frustration, with rage—he couldn't accept it.

If that were the only issue, he still wouldn't have started a civil war.

But... the true spark that ignited everything was that battle not long ago.

He was utterly powerless.

Completely and utterly helpless—played with as if he were nothing.

That silver-haired man, Noel, with wings on his back, stood at the pinnacle of the sky, looking down on him with cold, disdainful eyes.

Humiliation.

Overwhelming humiliation seeped into Laxus's heart.

If he had lost in a fair one-on-one battle, he would have accepted defeat.

But... the truth was, Noel had never even considered him an opponent—not even once.

It was like how a human wouldn't care about the life or death of an ant.

That wasn't a battle.

It was pure, one-sided domination.

And Noel—the silver-haired Noel—had faced him with exactly that attitude.

Unwilling.

Such a humiliating defeat—how could he possibly accept it?

"I'm right here, waiting for you, Noel. Co to . I refuse to believe that Freed's enchantnts can hold you back. Co to and fight!!"

"The ti has co, Noel... I've been waiting for you."

Laxus stood up, his gaze coldly fixed on the magical runes floating in the air.

"Six minutes until Thunder Palace is activated... Noel, don't tell you can't even break through Freed's enchantnt? If that's really the case, then I must say, you've truly disappointed ."

A faint click reached Laxus's ears.

Casually, he turned his head—only to see a figure wrapped tightly from head to toe, with five strange flutes strapped to his back.

"Oh, you're here. Mystogan. I really didn't expect you to join this ga."

"If you cancel Thunder Palace right now, there's still a chance this could all be treated as a joke." A deep, cool voice echoed through the air.

"How naive. Though I do find you interesting, if you're not here to fight, then get out of my way. Don't interfere with my battle with Noel."

"I may not be interested, but there's still Erza... and Mira, who has regained her strength, right?"

"Those two won't do." Laxus let out a disdainful smirk.

"Even though their strength is improving, they're still too weak."

To Laxus, Mira and Erza were strong, but not nearly enough to pose a real threat to him.

"They're weak? Are you blind or sothing?"

"I acknowledge you, Mystogan. Since Noel isn't here yet, I'll defeat you first... and then I'll wait for him."

"You're only interested in this kind of thing? Tell , which one of us is truly the naive one?" Mystogan shook his head.

"Let's settle this, Mystogan. No... I should call you—"

Before Laxus could finish his sentence, Mystogan suddenly drew a staff from his back.

In an instant, a burst of magic shot toward Laxus.

"Zzt—" Lightning crackled in Laxus's hand as he countered with a bolt of electricity.

The two spells collided in midair.

BOOM!

A deafening explosion shook the cathedral.

The shockwave shattered the stained glass windows, sending shards flying in all directions.

The sound of breaking glass echoed through Magnolia, drawing the attention of those searching for Laxus.

As the thick smoke and dust from the explosion slowly cleared, Mystogan's sharp gaze locked onto Laxus.

His usually calm voice now carried a hint of unease.

"Where did you hear about this?"

"Oh? That's rare—you actually sound nervous." Laxus picked up on the anxiety in Mystogan's tone, and his lips curled into a taunting smirk.

"You're asking where I found out? Who knows? Beat , and maybe I'll tell you."

"You'll regret this, Laxus. I'll show you magic unlike anything you've ever seen before."

"Oh no, I'm so scared." Laxus sneered.

"But sure, give it your best shot. I'll let you see just how big the gap in our strength really is."

Mystogan didn't respond.

Instead, he pulled one of the staffs from his back and thrust it into the ground, gripping it firmly as he spoke in a deep voice:

"[Heavenly Tower]."

Whoosh! A purple magic circle appeared in front of Mystogan's staff.

At the sa ti, multiple purple light pillars erged beneath Laxus's feet.

The ground trembled and shifted continuously.

Laxus, who had been standing in the cathedral, suddenly found himself rising uncontrollably.

The scenery around him began to ripple like water before transforming into a dazzling starry sky.

Then, as if space itself had been torn apart by so unknown force, a massive creature began to crawl out from the rift.

Several black, shadowy hands reached out and wrapped around Laxus's body.

A deep fear seed to grip him as he let out a furious roar.

Suddenly—CRACK!

Laxus's body transford into a bolt of lightning, and with a flash of golden electricity, everything around him shattered like a fragile painting.

"Hahaha! How boring! Did you really think you could restrain with such illusions, Mystogan?" Laxus laughed wildly.

"As expected of you... but you noticed it just a little too late."

"Huh?"

A sudden purple pillar of light descended from above, enveloping Laxus completely.

At the sa ti, multiple magic circles of varying sizes and colors appeared in the air above him.

Mystogan pointed his staff at Laxus and chanted:

"[Slumber—Five-Layer Magic Circle, Kagura]."

At this mont, Laxus, who had fallen into Mystogan's trap and should have been panicked, suddenly smirked.

He looked at Mystogan and said:

"Who is it that truly failed to notice?"

Zzt—

A golden magic circle appeared beneath Mystogan's feet, crackling with dazzling lightning.

"Damn it!" Mystogan's expression changed.

BOOM!

Both magic circles erupted with blinding light, followed by a violent explosion.

When the dust settled, both fighters stood unhard in their original positions.

Mystogan leaped into the air, clapping his hands together.

A new magic circle ford in front of him, while several waves of purple energy materialized beneath Laxus's feet.

But just as the magic waves were about to strike, Laxus transford into a bolt of lightning, escaping the spell's grasp and launching an attack toward Mystogan.

However, Mystogan's body dissolved into mist, dodging the attack effortlessly.

Both of them returned to their starting positions, once again locked in a tense standoff.
