Gwen was slightly disgusted at her mother's repetitive questions and doubtful responses. However, she was determined to prove her point

"Mom, I'm not just thinking it but I have a strong feeling that sothing is going on between those two. If I didn't know better I'd say they were acting like lovers. The handso devil was behaving all possessively around Alia as though he owned her and this goes to explain a lot."

"How do you an?" Regina folded her hand across her chest, irritation etching on her forehead.

"You know how we've been trying to figure out who has been Alia's backbone since she returned to the city?" Gwen asked.

"Yes."

"You also recall how we all concluded that soone powerful may be protecting her but we can't seem to find out the identity of the person."

"Just cut to the chase and go straight to the point." Regina's face contoured in disgust as she could guess where Gwen was going with this wild theory.

Gwen frowned but didn't react imdiately.

"Soone not only powerful but madly rich with a lot of connections has made it difficult for any of our spies to get close to Alia. Even the almighty Lin Fox, with all her network and resources, has failed severally to co up with a result on how to deal with Alia because of the mysterious person backing her up. What if that mysterious person is this Blaze Anderson?"

"Impossible!" Regina abruptly stood up, horror spelt on her forehead. She thought briefly and turned to look at Gwen who was still seated, scrunching her face.

"Don't be quick to jump to conclusions. What you think you saw may be misleading. Blaze Anderson will never render assistance to any mber of the Shawls family even if he was our last helper on Earth. He despises our family. He believes that your father was responsible for Blaze's father's death. That is the reason why he didn't hesitate to have his people torture you and Jerry when he had the chance. He will do the sa to Alia if given the opportunity."

"You have a point, Mom." Gwen sighed, recounting the number of slaps she received at intervals.

"Of course I do." Regina took back her seat on the bed beside Gwen and placed her hands on her daughter's slightly trembling hands. "However, if your theory turns out to be true, then we need to be prepared. We will take advantage of the situation to our own benefit. But first, we need to confirm the truth."

"How do you suggest we do that?" Gwen tightened her hold around her mother's hands, her eyes brimming with a mixture of fear and curiosity.

"I will start by pleading with Nana to allow to invite Alia over to the mansion for the surprise birthday party we are planning for your father."

"What if she turns down your invitation?" Gwen stated.

"She won't as long as it involved your father."

"That's true. So what do you plan to do when she accepts the invitation?"

"We would openly confront her before the family. If it so happens that she is really with your father's enemy, all hell is going to break loose."

"Music to my ear." Gwen clasped her hands together excitedly.

"And that's not all," Regina said rubbing her palms together, a sly grin curling up her lips.

"There is more?" Gwen's eyes widened in excitent.

"Yes, my dear. I already have an ingenious plan in motion to take care of Alia once and for all. She won't know what hit her when the ti cos."

"What's the plan, Mom?" Gwen asked in a thrilled voice.

"I'm afraid I can tell you, now. But you're going to love it when it starts yielding results."

"I hope it takes her six feet below this ti." Gwen snarled.

Knock! Knock!! Knock!!!

Both mother and daughter jerk up from the bed, their panicked eyes darting towards the closed door.

"Who is it?" Regina asked in a slightly raised and alard voice.

"It's Patricia, Ma'am." One of her mansion maids announced behind the door.

"What do you want?" Regina's initial shock was replaced with irritation.

"Dinner has been served and the senator has asked for you and Madam Gwen to join the rest of the family downstairs."

"Go and tell him that we will be down shortly." Regina clicked her tongue in annoyance.

"Okay, ma'am."

Regina waited until she was certain that the maid her left before returning her attention to Gwen. "Why don't you stay here at the mansion for a few days and help plan the surprise birthday party? I'm sure Jerry wouldn't mind."

"Sure. It sounds like a great idea." Gwen said excitedly. "But Mom, please I need you and Jerry to settle your differences. Try and talk to him."

"Fine," Regina said, rolling her eyes. I'll do my best."

"Splendid!" Gwen said standing up. "Let's go. I'm starving."

Regina also rose to her feet. "And one more thing, sweety."

"What?" Gwen cocked her head backwards to stare at her mum.

"Not a word about what we have discussed with anyone. Not even your husband. We can't afford any mistakes."

"My lips are sealed, mom." Gwen gestured animatedly causing Regina to smile. "Can we go now?"

"Sure."

Inside a dimly lit motel room, located on the outskirts of Salvinre city, a man sat calmly, his piercing blue eyes staring dangerously at so of the pictures scattered on the wooden stool in front of him.

The top part of his hardened face was partly concealed by the silhouette of the hat he was wearing. A cigarette burned between his slender fingers, the smoke swirling around him, revealing a creepy smirk on his face.

He took another drag of his cigar as he picked up one of the pictures, showing Alia stepping out of a hotel, with her bodyguards closely behind her.

Placing the burning part of his cigarette on Alia's pretty face, he burned a hole through the picture, a satisfied smirk framing his lips.

Trashing the smoking picture in the tal waste bin, he leaned closer and examined more of the scattered pictures on the tool.

The pictures captured Alia at different locations, with so of her friends, and even with Blaze.

"We are getting close, brother. Soon, you will be avenged." He spoke in a cold and creepy voice as he stubbed out his cigarette. He stood up, picking up a leather brown cross bag from the floor and a cara before leaving the room.
