Although Alia considered her grandmother guilty of betraying her like the rest of the family, she knew deep down that the old woman still cared for her wellbeing even though she rarely showed it.
Picking up the intercom on her desk, she dialled her secretary's number and inford the latter to clear out her schedule for the day. She hurriedly shut down her system and left the office.
"Pascal we need to go to the Salvine General Hospital right now. Inform Lance to get the car ready." Alia said in a slightly trembling tone.
"Yes, ma'am."
When Alia got into the car, she quickly texted Blaze, informing him of the recent developnt while encouraging Lance to speed up.
In Less than fifteen minutes, Alia arrived at the hospital premises. She hurried into the hospital reception hall and asked the female dical receptionist about an old woman, by the na of Priscilla Shawls who was rushed in earlier to the hospital.
"Oh my god! It's you. Alia Shawls!" The receptionist nurse exclaid cupping her mouth.
"Yes, it's . Now please focus." Alia snapped angrily. "I'm here to see my grandmother who was rushed in about forty-five minutes ago."
"I'm so sorry, ma'am. She was taken to..."
"Alia!"
Alia tilted her head in the direction of the person calling her na.
"Uncle Matt." She forced a smile as she walked up to him.
"What are you doing here?" Matt asked in a low voice, his tone dripping with anger and bitterness.
"I'm here to see grandma," Alia said unfazed by his scrunched face or the coldness in his tone. "Can you please take to her?"
"Why do you care? Don't tell you've suddenly grown a conscience after your disgraceful act yesterday. Do you know what your actions for the past two days have done to the image of this family? Not only did you refuse to acknowledge our calls, but you made us a laughing stock. I will advise you to go back to wherever you're coming from. You are not welco here." Matt scoffed.
"Says who?" Alia boldly challenged her uncle. But when she saw that so patients and hospital staff in the reception hall were staring at them and talking in hushed voices, she said in a resigned tone. "Uncle Matt, please, I'm not here to make a scene. I'm just here to see my grandmother. If you won't take to her, then it's fine. I'll just call Dad."
"There is no need for that. Follow ." Matt took two steps but stopped abruptly as though he had forgotten sothing.
"I need you to first lose those two bulldogs behind you. I won't have them scaring my mother to death. Only family mbers are allowed to tag along." Matt said, glaring at the two hefty n who were responsible for Jerry's broken nose.
"I'm sorry uncle. But I'll have to decline. They will accompany wherever I go. But I can assure you, they won't cause any trouble as long as everyone respects themselves. Also, they won't enter inside grandma's ward."
"You are so stubborn like your father, Alia. I just hope you know what you're doing. Follow ." Matt led the way to the elevator that took them to the eleventh floor, which also happened to be the VIP floor.
Along the hallway and close to VIP room three, Jerry, Gwen, Pearl, Desmond, and Lilian(Matt's chubby wife) were all seated on the hallway benches, waiting for the doctor, the senator and his wife to co out.
Gwen, who was patiently waiting for her uncle to return with the soda can she requested was stunned and bitterly enraged to see Matt approaching with Alia and her bodyguards.
"What is that wretch doing here?" Gwen flared up, rising to her feet.
"Alia!" Desmond also stood up, shocked and worried to see Alia.
Jerry -who had a white bandage across his broken nose, with a black eye distorting his handsoness - rose to his feet, with both fists clenched.
"You've got so nerves Alia to show your face here after what you did to us yesterday," Jerry growled, his narrowed and darkened eyes darting between his ex and the gorilla behind her that punched him in the face.
"Exactly! She is so shaless and deserves to be taught a lesson. Don't let her get away this ti." Pearl whispered to Jerry's ear, fanning his flas.
"Jerry." Matt hurried over to him and tried to talk so senses into him. "Please, remain calm. She's just here to see Nana and she'll be gone before you know it."
Lilian, who always taught Alia was an angel remained indifferent to the rest of the family's hostility. She inwardly hated Gwen for stealing Jerry from Alia. And Pearl's continuous presence in the family disgusted her. But since her husband supported the cheating duo she decided to stay mute in the whole matter.
"Hello, family," Alia said in her sweetest voice like soone incapable of hurting a fly.
"Uncle Matt, get that heartless woman out of this place before I descend on her." Jerry stepped forward while keeping a safe distance from Alia and her bloodthirsty bodyguards.
"Jerry, calm d ..." Matt didn't get to finish his statent when Alia caught him off with her sharp tongue.
"Only a worthless Jerk like you would allow himself to get beat up on his wedding day. Tell does your nose still hurt or do you want to reshape it again?"
"Did you hear what she said?" Jerry's muscles bulge like an unleashed beast. He tried to move forward but Matt stopped him knowing Alia's bodyguards would beat him to a pulp.
Lilian suppressed a chuckle, her eyes brimming with amusent. But when she t her husband's rebuking gaze, the humour vanished from her eyes.
"Get out of this place, Alia," Gwen scread at the top of her voice attracting so nurses and doctors who were attending to other patients in other wards. "We do not want you here. You've already made it known to us that you are no longer a mber of this family. So get lost."
"Shut that stinking hole in your face before you make co down there and do it myself," Alia yelled, her widened eyes shooting lasers. "What makes you think you can talk, while I'm talking? Have you forgotten your place in the family you ungrateful and backstabbing tramp?"
"Alia, that is not a nice thing to say." Desmond rebuked her, fiercely.
Just then, the door to VIP room three opened and out ca a vengeful mother and aggrieved father.
"What is happening here?" Regina asked scowling at Alia. "...And who invited her here."
"I did." Senator Gregory said in an angry voice. "Why are you all shouting? Have you forgotten this is a hospital?"
"Daddy..." Gwen ran into her father's arm, shading her crocodile tears. "Alia calls a tramp and an illegitimate child."
"Alia! you did what." Regina snarled at her, afraid to step forward because of the hungry lions behind her baring their teeth.
"Please, Regina. I didn't co here for your senseless drama and that of your wayward daughter. I just ca to see my grandmother and I'll be out of this place."
"Greg, did you hear what she said to ?" Regina turned her angry face to her husband expecting him to rebuke her before everyone. "After everything she has done to ruin this family and her sister, she's still insulting ."
"Alia, you shouldn't talk to your stepmother in that manner. Show so respect in the presence of elders." Pearl cautioned like a sweet governess rebuking her favourite student.
"Pearl, can you keep quiet and allow to handle this?" The senator snapped at his lousy sister-in-law.
"I'm sorry, Greg. I'm just stating the obvious." Pearl grins slyly at Alia's glares.
"Alia please let's not fight or quarrel amongst ourselves. We all ca here for Nana and we should learn to accommodate each other irrespective of the differences between us. And that goes to everyone seated or standing here, I don't want a repeated session of this unnecessary ruckus." Senator Gregory said sternly.
"Is that all you're going to say?" Regina asked feeling more hurt and disrespected.
"Alia I think you owe your stepmother an apology." Matt stepped up to defend his mistress since his weakling of a brother couldn't reprimand his daughter.
"Yes Alia, you shouldn't have spoken to her in that manner, especially after all the trouble you've caused for this family." Desmond concurred.
"You even owe Jerry an apology for what your bodyguard did to..."
"Pearl!" Senator Gregory growled.
"Sorry." Pearl backed away still grinning.
Senator Gregory turned his attention back to Alia, his gaze softened and his eyes pleading.
"Fine, if I apologize to Regina, would I be allowed to see my Nana in peace?"
"Yes!" Everyone chorused except Lilian.
"Okay," Alia replied, I mischievous smirk dancing at the corner of her eyes.
"Regina I'm sorry for calling you a senseless, over dramatic and manipulative woman, who failed woefully in raising up a decent daughter."
"What!" Everything chorused while Lilian secretly gave Alia a thumbs up.
Senator Gregory's face pald his forehead while Alia boldly walked past him and Regina into Nana Shawls' ward.
Even though Regina was tempted to pull at Alia's hair, the latter was just too frightened at the nace her growling bulldogs would unleash.
