Alia's heart skipped a beat at the doctor estion. "About three weeks ago." She replied wondering what the doctor will ask next.

"How was the flow? Was it heavy or light?"

"Oh my goodness! Why all these questions? Please! Please!! Please!!! p not be what I'm thinking" Alia prayed earnestly in her heart.

Doctor Ashley observed the panic in Alia's eyes and added. "You have nothing to fret about, Mrs Anderson. These are just normal procedural questions."

"Okay."

"So how was the flow?"

"It was kind of light," Alia replied, her heart pounding in her ears.

"Have you ever had allergies before?"

"None that I'm aware of." Alia shook her head.

"How about rashes, itching or difficulty in breathing?"

"No." Alia shook her head

"Okay, I'm going to examine your lower abdon." Doctor Ashley slipped on a pair of plastic hand glove. "Tell exactly where it hurts."

"Alright." Alia's body began to tremble as she watched the doctor slowly lift up her hospital gown to expose her body while one of the nurses unfolded the movable hospital bed screen, to cover the patient's exposed body.

As the doctor, pressed two of her fingers on Alia's lower abdon, moving it sideways and increasing the pressure, Alia twisted, wincing in pain.

"There... It hurts over there."

"Okay. Sorry, dear." Doctor Ashley picked up her pen a made a few notes on Alia's hospital folder, well the nurses tended to Alia. She wrote down so prescriptions and gave them to one of the nurses to get from the pharmacy. Then she administered so intravenous dication through Alia's cannula.

Afterwards, Doc Ashley picked up so of the test results from the hospital laboratory and scanned through them. A cosmic smile frad her lips as she looked up to et Alia's troubled gaze.

"Mrs Anderson, you have no reason to be alard. As a matter of fact, I have a little bit of bad news and good news for you."

"Good and bad news." Alia was more alard than ever, her twitching gaze darting between the doctor's soft eyes and the folder she was holding.

"Yes." Doctor Ashley said proudly. Which would you like to hear first?"

"I guess the bad news." Alia swallowed the lump that had ford in her throat. She asked the nurse to help her into a sitting position as she braced herself for a shocker.

"Good choice." Dr Ashley said in a jovial tone. "Based on the series of tests we carried out on samples taken from your body, it was diagnosed that you are suffering from severe food allergy and intolerance."

"Allergies! Intolerance! How co?" Alia asked, completely stunned. "I have never shown any of those irrespective of whatever I eat."

"That brings to the good news." Doctor Ashley said beaming.

"Huh!" Alia looked at her in more confusion.

"How can my food allergies bring about good news?"

"That's because it's a food allergy and intolerance instigated by hormonal changes in early pregnancy."

Bang!

Alia felt an invisible hamr from above fall on the centre of her head. She instantly went pale, her jaw-dropping. Her widened eyes almost popped out of her sockets as they stared blankly at the doctor as if she were so kind of alien.

"W-what do you an by early p-pregnancy"

Doctor Ashley's face furrowed. This was not the reaction she was expecting from Alia. Most married won would scream their lungs for joy upon receiving such good news. Why was this case different?

"What I'm trying to say is that you are pregnant, Mrs Anderson "

"P...p... pregnant." Alia stuttered, tears clouding her vision. Cold sweats broke up on her forehead and her throat suddenly turned dried.

"Yes." Doc Ashley replied calmly. "You are seven weeks plus pregnant. Isn't that good news?"

"No!" Alia cupped her mouth to prevent herself from screaming while shaking her head. "This is not good news. I can't be pregnant."

Doctor Ashley exchanged confused glances with the nurse.

"Please wait outside, Nurse Debra while I speak to the patient alone." Dr Ashley instructed the nurse.

"Yes, doctor."

The young nurse was about to leave when the doctor added. "And do not say a word about this to any of the family mbers or friends."

"Okay, doctor." The nurse quietly left and closed the door behind her.

"Mrs Anderson..." Dr Ashley attempted a motherly approach. "I understand you're experiencing a lot of emotions right now and being pregnant can sotis be scary..."

"Please stop saying that I am pregnant because I'm not. I have been very careful. Probably my blood samples were mixed with that of a pregnant woman." Alia paused, blinking back her tears to prevent it from falling "Please take a fresh blood sample and run the test again. You will see for yourself that the result you are holding is wrong."

Dr Ashley let out a soft chuckle.

"Mrs Anderson, I'm afraid to tell you this, but we do not make that kind of mistake here. We are professionals and we are very thorough at our work. We also reconfirm every lab test result to ensure efficiency and accuracy."

"You are pregnant and this is the reason behind your severe food allergy. But if you insist on another blood test, I will oblige you that request. Feel free to sue and have my license revoked if it cos out negative."

"So you an I'm really pregnant."

"Yes."

"Oh God! This can't be happening." Alia raised her hand to her head, tears trickling down her face.

"Oh.. my dear, please don't cry." Dr Ashley patted Alia on the shoulder. I am here for you both as a doctor and a friend. You can talk to ." She said, pulling a seat close to Alia. She sat down, holding Alia's broken gaze and stroking her hand.

"I do not know what to say." Alia sniffed, wiping her tears with the back of her hands.

"How about you tell why you are unhappy with this piece of information? You're married and most married people want kids. I have spoken to your husband over the phone and he sounds like a great man who loves his wife."

"You spoke to Blaze?" Alia's breath hitched, her chest tightening.

"If you are referring to Mr Blaze Anderson then yes. He was desperate to know what was wrong with you. We spoke on your friend's phone."

"He already knows?" Alia's face almost turned white with fright.

"Concerning your food allergy and intolerance, yes. But in the case of your pregnancy, my answer would be no. I haven't told him you're pregnant yet."

Alia released her breath which she didn't know she was holding all this while. "Please, doc, he must never know I am pregnant."

"But why?" Dr Ashley raised an eyebrow in both confusion and suspicion.

"It's not what you think." Alia quickly corrected the doctor's impression. "I would never cheat on my husband. He is the only man I have ever slept with and if I'm pregnant then it should be for him."

"Then what is stopping you from telling him."

"It's complicated and I can't tell you. I'm sorry."

"It's fine. But I hope you're not planning to terminate the pregnancy because I won't encourage you on that path."

Alia lowered her gaze, staring blankly at her open palm.

"I don't know for now. I just need ti to clear my head."

Dr Ashley released a sigh of frustration. She stood up and patted Alia on the back of her hand.

"Take your ti and think this through. I promise I won't say a word about the pregnancy to your husband or anyone. I will also caution my nurses from doing likewise. But if you want my candid advice, I will encourage you to open up to your husband. Do not keep this secret for too long. Otherwise, it might impact your marriage negatively."

Alia nodded her head as she lifted her gaze back to the doctor. "Thank you."

"You're welco, my dear. I'll give you sothing to make you rest for now."
