Gwen woke up the following day in the hospital, wincing in a lot of pain.
Every part of her body ached but the trauma on her head was more excruciating. It felt as though a school bus had run over her face, leaving behind a mangled ss. Her head felt heavy. Her vision was dark and blurry. She had no idea where she was or why she couldn't move her body. It felt as though a weight was placed on the chest making breathing difficult.
She tried to rember what happened to her and why her head was throbbing so badly. But the more she tried to task her brain for answers, the more her head pounded. Until she gave up the seemingly difficult task.
Focusing on her breathing, she tried to sniff out her environnt. But breathing wasn't an easy task. Sothing was obstructing the natural flow of air into her lungs. It felt as though she was breathing in artificial air through this device on her nose.
"What a second..." Gwen echoed inwardly as she listened to different beeping sounds of different machines, almost like those she heard when her Nana was hospitalised. She could also hear the voices of so people whispering but couldn't make out their voices on the spot.
"Am I in a freaking hospital?" Gwen struggled to open her eyes wider, but all she could manage was a tiny peek from her swollen eyes.
The images she saw were blurry but she could make out shapes. She could see that an oxygen mask was fitted to her nose and mouth preventing her from talking and breathing in natural air.
Above her was a blurry but blinding stream of white light. Then sothing, no soone obstructed the light. It was the towering figure of a woman. The woman was waving a hand over her face and talking to soone in a hushed voice.
"Gwen."
Gwen heard the woman call her na. The voice sounded familiar. It resembled that of her mother. But she couldn't see Regina's face properly or hear what the latter was saying.
"Gwen."
Regina called again, slightly increasing the volu of her voice while looking into her daughter's partially open eyes.
She hadn't been herself since the previous day after she was alerted about an ugly incident involving her daughter and Jerry's younger brother.
Knowing Gwen's temper, Regina initially thought Benjamin was the victim until she arrived at the hospital and saw her daughter's bloodied and swollen face almost as though soone had used those delicate face as a punching bag. Instantly, she alerted her husband and Matt.
Matt was the first to respond to her distress call, arriving at the hospital an hour before the senator got there.
Acting impulsively at the sight of his presud daughter's battered face, Matt quickly arranged for Benjamin to be picked up from his parents' ho where he was hiding, and taken to an unknown location, where he was given a bitter taste of his own dicine by n three tis his size. Also using the senator's influence, Jerry's parents were arrested and kept behind bars until they could provide their son, to answer for his cri.
"Gwen, it's mum. Can you hear ?" Regina called tenderly again, stroking her daughter's hair.
Gwen tried to speak, burning tears flowing out of her swollen, black eyes, down her temple and disappearing into the soft pillow. But due to the oxygen mask covering her nose and mouth, she couldn't respond to her mother's call.
"Make any sign if you can hear , darling." Regina pleaded desperately.
Gwen moved her right finger, too weak to lift her hand up due to the heavy sedation she was on.
"She's really awake."
Gwen heard her aunt's voice coming from the opposite side.
"Go get the doctor, quickly." Gwen heard her mother, instruct her aunt. Then the number of voices in the room increased. But she was too tired to hear all their noisy blabbing. So she slowly closed her eyes, succumbing to the relaxing effect of the sedative.
"Doctor, how is she now?" Regina asked, still holding her sleeping daughter's right hand.
"She's stable. But she needs a lot of rest, especially in her condition. I have given her so painkillers that would lessen the effect of the bruise on her face. I can assure you that she will be up and running in less than a week."
"Thank you, doctor." Regina managed to smile. "But what about the pregnancy scan result? Was her baby hard in the process?"
"Thankfully no. Your daughter is lucky that the maniac didn't kick her in the stomach like most pathetic won beaters." The doctor sighed looking at the young woman's face. "Like I said earlier, your daughter will be fine. All she needs is proper rest and her dication."
Regina nodded her head, more tears glistening in her eyes. She didn't want to believe that this was part of her karma for all her nurous atrocities. With all the money gone from her account and that of Gwen, all that was left was her position as the senator's wife and all the benefits that ca with it. She couldn't afford to lose any of those otherwise her life would be aningless.
"If you will excuse , madam. I have to attend to other patients." The doctor took his leave after writing down so instructions for the nurse on duty.
"Have you heard anything from that mother f*cking asshole who goes by the na, Jerry?" Pearl asked between gritted teeth, taking a seat beside her sister.
The nurse administering drugs to Gwen turned to look at Pearl, a bewildered look on her face.
"What!" Pearl shot her a nasty glare.
"Nothing."
"Then finish up what you have to do and get the f*ck out of this place."
"Yes, Ma.".The timid-looking nurse hurriedly administered the remaining infusion drugs and quickly exited the room, avoiding the rude woman's arrogant stares.
"So..." Pearl tilted her head back to her sister.
"Not a word," Regina said bitterly, regretting not seeing the Morgan for the criminals they were.
"I always knew that Jerry was scum. If he could agree to willingly betray Alia whom he claid to love for years without any iota of regret, then Gwen never stood a chance." Pearl sighed, crossing her arm on her chest.
Regina laughed bitterly, a sinister glint flashing across her eyes.
"Alia is to bla for this. If she had just died like we all expected her to, none of this would have happened."
"Yeah, and now she has a powerful husband by her side to defend her. Do we even stand a chance?"
Regina temporarily left her daughter's side and took an empty seat opposite her sister, her eyes staring blankly at the beeping heart rate machine.
"Sothing doesn't feel right about those two. I don't think they are in love with each other the way they are protraying to everyone. I know Alia very well and based on the Anderson's history with our family, I have a feeling that young Mr Anderson is up to no good. He might even be using Alia without her knowledge. All we have to do is find the weak link between them and attack it with everything we've got. If those two are not together, then we can get rid of Alia once and for all."
"Hmm..." Pearl bead proudly. "You are such a genius sister. That is why I believe so much in you."
"But first, we have to deal with this scum called Jerry. He is now a liability and we have to get rid of him before he sells us out to our enemy."
"But he's nowhere to be found."
"Not for long." Regina leaned back in her seat, her evil gaze shifting back to her sister. "We have his parents incarcerated and his younger brother's life handing in the balance. He will co to us at the right ti and that is when we will take him out."

When Alia learnt the bitter truth behind her father's attack, the fabricated emails and the adultery going on under her father's roof, she almost went insane with rage.
If it hadn't been for her husband's advice, she was ready to march down to her father's office and expose everything to him, with proof of Regina's treachery.
However, since the matter in question was highly sensitive and could spiral out of control, Alia decided to go along with her husband's plan and wait for the right mont to strike.

Tuesday went down like a breeze for Alia with no special event aside from work and more work.
The planning and preparation for Friday's event were the only things occupying her thoughts for now.
With the event only two days away, she invested her ti and resources in creating a well-designed campaign both online and offline.
She almost forgot about food, working her ass out until she got a delicious food package from her husband delivered by his driver. She sent him a thank you ssage and shared the food with her brainstorming team before focusing on work again.
Before the end of the day, Alia was able to achieve reasonable success.
An enigmatic teaser video, presenting only glimpses of the products and subtle hints about their features and benefits was sent out through different dia outlets, generating strong excitent as her large fanbase eagerly awaited the official launch.
At the close of work, Alia was on her way out of her office when she got a text ssage from Blaze asking her to stop by the shopping mall and pick up so listed groceries.
"Why does he want to do grocery shopping?" Alia queried her thoughts, as she scanned through the list of items she needed to buy.
"What happened to the maids or the chef?"
