Chapter 121: Chapter 118: Snow Qilin
The Fur Ball Little Beast quickly nodded its head and continued to chirp cheerfully, "Cheep... cheep..."
"Daddy..."
An ethereal voice suddenly appeared in Mu Chen’s mind. Hearing it, Mu Chen froze. He glanced around and, confirming there was no one else nearby, shifted his gaze to the Fur Ball Little Beast. "Was that you talking?" he asked tentatively.
The Fur Ball Little Beast nodded happily and blinked its big eyes at Mu Chen.
"Uh..." Mu Chen was dumbfounded. "That was spiritual communication. You can do that?"
The Fur Ball Little Beast nodded again. Mu Chen couldn’t help but be amazed. ’It seems the notes were right,’ he thought. ’A Magical Beast that has just hatched from its egg will treat the first person it sees as its closest kin.’ But Mu Chen didn’t know that while a normal Magical Beast Egg would lead to imprinting, it wouldn’t affect the bloodline. His case was different. When the Fur Ball Little Beast was awakening and hatching, he had spat out a mouthful of blood. This blood had seeped through the eggshell and into the Fur Ball Little Beast’s body, becoming the source of its bloodline. This was what created the feeling of being connected by flesh and blood between Mu Chen and the little beast, like a child and its mother.
Gently stroking the Fur Ball Little Beast’s fur, Mu Chen smiled. "So, what’s your na?"
"Cheep! Bai."
The Fur Ball Little Beast seed to think about it very seriously, taking a long ti before using its Spiritual Power to project a single word. Mu Chen found this quite amusing. Not only could this Fur Ball Little Beast talk, but it could also show a thoughtful expression. This ant its intelligence was far higher than other Magical Beasts, and it had only just been born.
’An Ancient Giant Beast...’
Mu Chen thought with so resignation of what the Profound Old Ghost had said. ’Am I really soone blessed with great fortune?’ He looked at the Fur Ball Little Beast with affection and chuckled. "Alright, then. From now on, I’ll call you Xiaobai."
"Xiao... bai... Cheep cheep! Daddy... hungry..." Xiaobai seed to love the na, looking at Mu Chen with its sparkling, devastatingly cute, dark-gold eyes.
The expression made Mu Chen’s heart lt. But he didn’t know what Xiaobai liked to eat, so he said, "There doesn’t seem to be anything to eat here." But as soon as he finished speaking, Xiaobai started tugging at his sleeve with its mouth, pulling him insistently toward the center of the lake. Mu Chen glanced at the eggshells on the green stone platform and seed to understand instantly. Magical Beast eggshells contained a vast amount of energy. Under normal circumstances, as long as a newborn Magical Beast ate its eggshell, it would gain its initial power and be able to evolve.
With a faint smile, Mu Chen’s Primordial Power surged. Pushing off with both hands, he leaped out from the cliff wall. After stretching his limbs, he took a sudden step mid-air, landing beside the green stone. Xiaobai, who had been waiting impatiently in his arms, took a light leap, flying out of his embrace and landing steadily on the stone platform.
The half-eggshell was still emitting a crystalline glow. Xiaobai chirped and took a bite. CRUNCH! A crisp sound rang out as it bit off a piece of the shell and began to chew it rapidly. CRUNCH CRUNCH. Mu Chen watched the cute little one, a grin spreading across its face. Suddenly, Xiaobai looked up at Mu Chen, then back at the piece of shell in its ’hands’, and gently broke off a small piece with its tiny arm, offering it to Mu Chen, its eyes full of reluctance.
This gesture made Mu Chen chuckle. He laughed and said, "Little one, I’m not hungry, and I don’t like to eat this stuff. You can have it."
Hearing this, Xiaobai’s eyes crinkled in delight. It stuffed the piece of shell into its mouth, making little smacking sounds of enjoynt from ti to ti. It looked utterly blissful. The more Mu Chen watched, the more fond he grew, because he felt that this Ancient Wild Beast was like his own child.
Before long, the entire half-eggshell was in the little one’s stomach. But it still looked unsatisfied, its eyes darting left and right as if searching for sothing.
Mu Chen couldn’t help but ask, "Xiaobai, what’s wrong?"
The Fur Ball Little Beast shook its head. Suddenly, its figure flickered and vanished from the stone platform. Mu Chen was utterly shocked. The little one had seemingly disappeared right before his eyes. But before Mu Chen could cry out in alarm, while he was still rubbing his eyes, the Fur Ball Little Beast reappeared on the platform.
For a mont, Mu Chen thought he had seen an illusion. But when his gaze shifted to the pile of broken eggshells next to the Fur Ball Little Beast, he knew that its disappearance had been no illusion at all.
"CRUNCH CRUNCH..." The Fur Ball Little Beast started eating again. These were the very eggshells that had flaked off and fallen into the lake when it was born.
"Cheep cheep... yummy..." The ethereal voice once again echoed deep in Mu Chen’s mind. Just as the voice faded, at the exact mont the Fur Ball Little Beast ate the last piece of eggshell, its body abruptly flared with an intense white light. The ball of white fluorescence that had vanished now enveloped it once more. This ti, however, was slightly different. The instant the white light wrapped around the little beast, a powerful wave of Primordial Power erupted from its body. Mu Chen knew—it was about to evolve.
Every Magical Beast’s eggshell contains imnse energy, absolutely enough for a single evolution. And this was the egg of an Ancient Giant Beast! The vast energy it left behind was enough to shock the world. Since the Fur Ball Little Beast had devoured all the eggshells in one go, the power it obtained was certainly sufficient for it to evolve.
The ball of light grew larger and larger, its glow more and more intense. Gradually, the surroundings began to tremble violently. The calm lake surface started to roil as if it were boiling water.
"ROAR!" With a heaven-shaking roar, the bright sky suddenly dimd, and flashes of Thunder Light filled the entire Independent Space.
"ROAR!" Another trendous roar. The Primordial Power within the space began to fluctuate wildly. Fiery teors filled the sky, streaking down to smash into the ground of the Independent Space. The earth shuddered from the impact. Amid continuous rumbles, spiderweb-like cracks spread out in all directions as lava erupted from the fissures, dying the entire sky red. The lake water surged backwards, and a massive Water Tornado whipped up a monstrous wave that crashed toward the erupting lava. In an instant, the beautiful scenery dissolved into utter Chaos.
"ROAR!" A third great roar. The surrounding space began to distort violently. A continuous SIZZLING sound filled the air as enormous rifts materialized out of thin air. After these rifts appeared, anything that touched them—be it the searing lava, the ferocious fiery teors, or the surging, monstrous waves—was devoured and vanished without a trace.
This destructive power made Mu Chen feel like a small boat tossed about on a tempestuous ocean—so helpless, so weak.
Just then, a colossal white phantom descended from the sky. The figure was extrely illusory; one could see the scenery behind it through its form. But even though the figure was illusory, it did not stop its majestic image from being deeply seared into Mu Chen’s mind.
This was a true Giant Beast, over a thousand ters long and more than six hundred ters tall. Its body occupied a tenth of the Independent Space. It was entirely snow-white, with blue lightning arcing around its form, emitting a unique halo. Its four feet trod upon flas of various colors, which would let out sharp hisses from ti to ti. An elegant mane swayed like smoke, and its lion-like head was held high with pride. A brilliant, spiraling horn shot toward the sky, surging with Thunder Light. Above its head was a black hole, twisted to its absolute limit, whose powerful suction pulled all the flowers, trees, rubble, and even the lake from the Independent Space into it.
Mu Chen himself began to float upward uncontrollably. The imnse suction made him feel as if his very blood would be drawn from his body. He could only continuously circulate the Primordial Power within him to try and slow his ascent.
However, just as Mu Chen rose to the level of the Giant Beast’s face, a beam of golden light enveloped him. The Adhesive Force acting on him seed to vanish. Mu Chen looked forward, and a majestic, domineering face appeared before him. As Mu Chen looked at it, the Giant Beast was also looking at him. This was the first ti Mu Chen had truly t the gaze of the Giant Beast. Its face was incredibly majestic, its golden eyes radiating a look of apathy. The long whiskers on either side of its mouth drifted out to its sides, swaying in the wind...
The mont he saw the Giant Beast’s face, a familiar scroll painting flashed through Mu Chen’s mind. That scroll was still hidden in his family’s Library Pavilion, a place he had discovered it by chance. The scroll depicted a massive Void Giant Beast. In the bottom right corner were so characters written in Ancient Seal Script. Back then, due to his physical condition, Mu Chen had nothing better to do than spend all his ti reading. Among the books he read was one that specifically explained Ancient Seal Script. So, after learning the script, he had taken out that scroll again.
When he saw those characters, Mu Chen imdiately understood their aning. The sentence read: "In antiquity, there was a beast born with the heavens and earth. Colossal, with a head like a white lion, four legs that trod upon seven-colored glowing light, a horn, and a mane and whiskers like smoke. Its na: Snow Qilin."
It ant that in ancient tis, when the heavens and earth were born, a Giant Beast was born along with them. It was exceptionally colossal, with a head like that of a silver lion, four legs that trod upon seven-colored glowing light, a horn, and a mane and whiskers like smoke. It was called: the Snow Qilin.
Curious about this information, Mu Chen had looked through a vast number of docunts in Luofeng City and finally found a snippet of information in a minstrel’s journal: The Snow Qilin, one of the Three Great Beast Gods of antiquity, the Land Beast God. It controlled all the beasts of the Extre Martial Continent, and its power was beyond any asure of strength or weakness.
The journal also ntioned the other two great ancient beast gods: the Sky Beast God, Jiu Feng, and the Sea Beast God, Netherworld. Among the Three Great Beast Gods, the Sea Beast God, Netherworld, was the most powerful. Not only that, but because the oceans of the Extre Martial Continent were countless tis larger than the land, the Magical Beasts in the sea were even more powerful than those on land.
Putting that aside, the appearance of this Ancient Giant Beast before him was remarkably similar to the Snow Qilin. It wasn’t just its appearance; even its eyes were identical. He wondered who could have created that scroll painting. To capture its true spiritual essence, the artist must have seen the beast with their own eyes; otherwise, it would be impossible to paint it to such a degree.
The Ancient Giant Beast stared at Mu Chen with its apathetic eyes, its mouth slightly open. A call, like a Brahma Sound, echoed through the Independent Space.
"Little one!"
It was just a single sound, but Mu Chen, standing opposite the Giant Beast, suddenly felt his skin crawl. Primordial Power erupted from his body. At the sa ti, his Purple Sky Demon Pupils activated, his vertical purple pupils fixed tightly on the giant beast before him as six snowflake imprints circled around them.
When the Giant Beast’s phantom saw the pupils in Mu Chen’s eyes, it suddenly showed a surprised expression. The Brahma Sound echoed again, ’Those eyes? How do you have them? Could that old thing have been reincarnated as this kid? No, that old bastard reincarnated more than a hundred thousand years ago. There’s no way he’d be this young.’
