’So they are called the Sunlit Order...’
Rey had a few thoughts about this mysterious organization already, most of which were negative.
However, there was one good thing.
’They can be used!’
The further he listened to them, the more he beca convinced of this idea.
His initial instinct was to join forces with them due to his own precarious situation, but after learning of their views, he thought to steer clear of their plans.
But now—
’Setting aside the imnse risk and dangers that accompany this, what are the benefits?’
Rey was silent.
He began to consider what he stood to gain if the Sunlit Order’s plan succeeded.
The most glaring one was ’opportunity.’
’They want to take down the Desgarron Family, which includes Augustus. I still have my revenge against him which I haven’t realized. This presents with that opportunity, as well as a chance to obtain many resources from the household’s treasury.’
The latter was even more important to Rey unlike the forr.
Although he wasn’t yet dead, his situation was terrible. He had no allies or subordinates. Any wrong move could draw the attention of serious investigators who could use Ancient Majik which he had no knowledge of or defenses against.
He had very little resources compared to the grand scope of his plans.
Most importantly—
’I am on a tir. My Soul won’t be able to last forever in this body.’
He had to find a solution eventually.
’All of these things could be resolved if I take advantage of these people’s sches. It is actually in my best interest that their plan succeeds.’
Of course, Rey knew this ca with many risks. He also knew he wouldn’t be in control of many aspects of its execution.
In fact, their very existence could prove to be a detrint to him.
But he was running low on options.
Efficient ones were practically nonexistent.
This was the best way.
’Of all the other Noble Households, the Desgarron Family is the weakest, which ans it will be the easiest to destroy. I am sure that’s what these people had in mind, which is why they chose this one as their target.’ Rey reasoned deeply. ’I am also most familiar with the Desgarron Family. Other Noble Households are not only foreign to , but they are also too far away."
This city was within the Desgarron Family’s territory, and to reach another territory... it would take a lot of effort.
Effort that Rey could not afford.
’Although I recognize their use, exposing myself to them would be too unwise.’ Rey added in his logical analysis.
’I stand more to gain if I tag along in the shadows. I will secretly reap whatever rewards that I can without drawing much attention to myself—at least until I have so leverage.’
Rey nodded.
His smile was growing wider.
He could visualize the future better.
’The best case scenario will be the Desgarron and these guys wiping each other out, leaving with all the benefits. But that’s too idealistic. As long as they can distract each other for long enough, I should have more wiggle room to seek out my interests.’
Another thing Rey considered was yet another important factor that would play a considerable role in his future plans.
’If these people succeed and destroy the Desgarron Family, I’ll be able to eliminate everyone I have the closest ties with. This gives a fresh start. Of course, there’s also the Coliseum, but most regulars there won’t be a problem once I leave this city. The problem with the Desgarron Family is that their influence extends beyond this place. Their downfall is my profit.’
Rey felt excited.
If he could regain his life through a hidden treasure in the treasury, that would be the best case scenario.
But even if he couldn’t, there had to be clues that would severely help him to achieve it within their archives.
Plus, the resources to assist in that venture.
Slowly, Rey convinced himself and got rid of his last remaining doubt regarding his choice.
"So what’s the final decision?" The Sunlit Order kept discussing while Rey was deep in thought.
"We just have to wait."
Alright... Sigh, even though such a good opportunity has presented itself."
"Enough. We should conclude this gathering already. There are other things we have to attend to in our respective roles."
"Fine..."
Rey sighed and shook his head.
’Based on what I can already observe, the longer I remain an undead, the more difficult it will be to change. The accumulated Chaos Energy and its corruption will simply be too much. I may eventually need a High Sequence Technique. Before things get to that point, I need a cure.’
If he didn’t get one, he would turn into an empty shell without a mind of his own.
A true Soulless.
This reality showed him a main flaw in going along with the Sunlit Order.
’They are willing to delay, but I can’t afford that. I have to find a way to influence them sohow so that they operate according to schedule, or even earlier.’
After all, Rey didn’t care if they completed their mission perfectly.
In fact, the more chaotic the mission was, the better for him. This would let him slip into the situation and make greater gains.
’That ans I have to convince them sohow. But they can’t know it is . Even if I wanted to reveal my identity, I can’t do so now. It would give them too much ti to sche against .’
Rey is in a race against ti.
But he wasn’t impatient or reckless.
He had to play all his cards before taking big risks that could cost him everything.
’It appears they are also done discussing for the night. They will soon be leaving. If I want to make my move, now would be the ti...’
After waiting for so ti, Rey narrowed his eyes on one of the Sunlit Order mbers.
Everyone turned into their silhouette forms and began to exit the cathedral in sequential orders.
Rey kept his attention fixed on the target.
Then, once he left—
’Now!’
—He imdiately gave chase.
