Ren stepped out of the bath, toweling himself off as he walked into his room.

Killing the three Swordsn had only worked because of the situation. But now, the last remaining swordsman, Giles, would be ready.

That made their work a little harder but Ren was glad that it was all coming to a close. With the death of Giles, Kingpin would have to look for more trusted mbers to carry out the assassination of the King.

That kind of job requires the kind of trust that was not easy to co by. It was one thing to send minions to kill a random rchant. It was another to send them to kill the King. They could betray you to him instead.

After all, it was much safer to betray Kingpin to the king than kill the king for Kingpin.

Putting that thought aside, he quickly dressed up. It was afternoon, and there was still ti to take care of a particular problem.

He couldn’t allow Lilith’s current emotions to fester. He’d done the sa to her obsession and was seeing the results now. That couldn’t be allowed to happen again.

With a deep breath to prepare himself, he made his way to Lilith’s room. He was much more comfortable in the battlefield, strategizing battles and assassinations, and this was an entirely different battlefield.

But he couldn’t afford to fail all the sa. While she was more stable, breaking the connection between them could lead to the sa results he was trying to avoid. The destruction of the world.

He knocked on her door. No response.

He knocked again. "Lilith, can we talk?"

Still silence.

Hen\\ sighed, running a hand through his hair. Of course she’s being stubborn.

He had expected this much after last night. He considered waiting her out, but there was a faster way to settle this.

He closed his eyes and focused. Lilith still had one of his Bloodbound coins on her. With a thought, he activated the connection.

A second later, he materialized in her room, right beside her as she lay on her bed.

Lilith let out a sharp gasp and, in an instant, shoved him off the bed.

Ren landed with a soft grunt, staring up at her from the floor. "Okay, I deserved that."

Lilith sat up, her eyes wide in surprise before narrowing in irritation. "Ren! You can’t just teleport into my room like that!"

He grinned, brushing off his shirt as he stood. "Well, you weren’t opening the door. I had to get creative."

She scowled but then softened slightly, her gaze scanning him. "Did you hurt yourself when you fell?"

Ren chuckled. "Are you worried about ?"

She turned away, crossing her arms. "Shut up."

Ren chuckled, before sitting beside her on the bed again. "Lilith, I didn’t co here to argue. I wanted to clear things up."

She turned her gaze away. "There’s nothing to clear up. I understand perfectly."

He frowned. "Do you? Because from what I can tell, you think I see you as a liability."

Her silence was answer enough.

Ren ran a hand through his hair, searching for the right words. "Lilith, I’ve sparred against you. I know how powerful you are. I know you can wipe the floor with if you wanted to."

"If I thought you were weak, I wouldn’t be here trying to fix things. But strength isn’t just about how hard you can hit soone."

She scoffed. "Then what is it about, Ren? Enlighten ."

"It’s about control." He said with a chuckle. "And that’s why I hesitated. I wasn’t worried about you failing. I was worried about what would happen if soone forced your hand. If they made you lose control."

Lilith’s jaw tightened. "So I am a liability."

Ren shook his head. "No. You’re sothing too precious to lose."

That made her pause.

Ren took her hands gently in his own. "I didn’t hold you back because I doubted you. I held you back because I know exactly how dangerous this world is. And I can’t, no won’t, lose you to it."

Lilith’s fingers curled against his palms, her gaze searching his face. "You an that?"

"I do." Ren said sincerely. "I don’t want to lock you away. I want to protect what matters to . And you, you matter to more than anything."

He found that he truly did believe what he was saying as it left his mouth. Just when had Lilith beco that much important to him?

She stared at him for a long mont before, finally, she moved. Her arms wrapped around him, pulling him into a tight embrace.

"Idiot." She murmured against his shoulder. "You should’ve just said that from the start."

Ren chuckled, returning the hug. "Yeah, I should have."

For a while, they just stayed like that, neither one willing to let go first. Ren could feel her heartbeat against his chest, the tension slowly lting from her body.

He ran a hand through her silky dark hair, murmuring, "I know I frustrate you. But I never ant to hurt you."

Lilith pulled back just enough to look at him, her crimson eyes still sharp but no longer cold. "You can be an idiot, but you’re my idiot. Just… stop keeping things from ."

Ren nodded. "I’ll try. But you have to understand. Sotis, I do things not to shut you out, but to keep you safe."

Lilith huffed, resting her forehead against his. "I don’t want to be safe if it ans being away from you."

Ren smiled softly, pressing a kiss to her temple. "I know. And I promise I’ll do better."

After a mont, Ren leaned back slightly, eting her eyes. "How about we take a ride? Just the two of us. Get so fresh air, clear our heads."

Lilith tilted her head. "A ride?"

"Yeah." Ren said. "The scenery around here is beautiful. And after all the missions and fighting, I think we both need a break."

Lilith studied him before smiling softly. "Alright. But only if we race."

Ren smirked. "You’re on."

She poked his chest playfully. "Don’t cry when I leave you in the dust."

Ren chuckled. "We’ll see about that."

With renewed enthusiasm, the two of them got up, the tension between them, gone.

It wasn’t a perfect resolution, but it was enough.

For now, they would take this mont. Just the two of them, away from battles, the assassination, and the fate they were trying hard to fight.

For now, they would simply be.
