Ren's eyes widened as there was a rush of wind around them. Their cloaks flapped beside them as Lilith blurred in front of Valen and sparks flew, Lilith's energy coated hand impacting Valen's crossed swords.

The man had moved faster than Ren, but not fast enough to escape Ren's eyes. However, that only ant he was just slow enough for Lilith to land a hit.

Lilith's energy claws sheared through Valen's shoulder, his arm, still holding his sword falling to the floor, and the man ducked under Lilith's second and equally fast swing.

Valen's sword snapped forward, screeching against the breastplate of energy that had appeared over Lilith's torso and by the ti he recovered, Lilith's hands were reaching for his face.

Snap!

Ren's hand closed around Lilith's wrist, diverting her arm upward, his foot sinking into Valen's stomach, sending the man flying.

"Lilith!" He yelled, seizing her around the waist, and lifting her, her feet dangling off the ground.

Thorn and Elias were already off their horses, standing with their back to Ren and Lilith, sword drawn as they faced the downed Valen.

"Stop! Lilith!" Ren snapped and Lilith cald, her eyes watering as she looked down at him. "I did it again, didn't I?"

"Yes." Ren sighed, before slowly setting her down.

"I'm a monster." She sniffled.

"No, Lilith." Ren said softly, petting her hair. "It's not your fault."

"You're right." She nodded decisively, every trace of remorse gone. "It's not my fault."

That was another consequence of using Soul Dominion that much. Mood swings fast enough to give one whiplash.

Ren hugged her one last ti, not knowing what to say, before turning to look at Valen.

The man picked himself up from the ground, blood dripping from his torn shoulder. "I'm afraid there's been a misunderstanding." the man said with a calm expression, as if getting your shoulder torn off was a regular experience.

A second later, the reason for his nonchalance revealed itself.

His arm, still clutching its hand on the floor, buzzed like static on the screen of a television, before disappearing with a scratchy noise.

There was a scratchy noise ahead of them, and Valen's shoulder popped into place, buzzing like static. It was as if the fight never happened. There were no blood stains, the hand was still clutching the sword, and even the part of the shirt that had been torn off had been restored.

This was the power of Valen's Divine Gift, Restoration. He could Restore from anything, including being burned to ashes and being killed. His one weakness, which no one except him and Ren, who had read the wiki, knows, was his token.

The mont his token was destroyed, he could be killed permanently.

And Ren knew where his token was. An ordinary coin Valen had received from his foster father. A coin hidden in Elnoria.

However, since there was no beef with Valen, he had no reason to do that. Until now. Depending on what the man said next, this could end with Valen dying a few months later.

"I was too eager and didn't word my request correctly." Valen said, popping his swords back in the sheaths on his back. "I would formally like to spar with Lord Terence. However, I do not want a spar with restrictions. I want what could be called a fight."

"And with the words that ca first from my mouth, I can see how that would look to all of you. For that," he bowed slightly, "I apologize."

"Stand down." Ren murmured to Thorn and Elias, who relaxed and lowered their swords, but didn't sheathe it. He looked towards Valen, who didn't make any attempt to co closer. Even with his Divine Gift, it was good to see that he still had a sense of self preservation.

"Apologies, warrior." He nodded at the man. "Your words weren't exactly friendly, and we're not patient people. I'm sure you understand. It's a good thing you have a Divine Gift that can turn this into an honest mistake."

"How did you know it was a Divine Gift?" Valen frowned.

Ren chuckled. This was not his first rodeo. "Bloodbinding would take a lot of energy to do that, and I've not heard of any other Trees that heal people in this manner. And with how unique your ability was, that narrows it down to a Divine Gift."

"Smart." Valen nodded.

Ren stepped past Thorn and Elias, and Valen took that as his cue to step closer. "You know my na, warrior, but I don't know yours." Ren grinned.

"Apologies. I was way too eager to fight with you." Valen bowed slightly. "My na is Valen the wanderer."

Of course, Ren knew all that. Valen was one of the more interesting characters of Eternal Souls.

First, no one, not even the ga writers, know his parents. He'd been found on the road between Albion and Elnoria. He'd been taken in by a rchant heading for Elnoria and when he grew up, he went on his own way.

He'd beco a thief, stealing enough to be comfortable for the rest of his life, and after growing bored, he decided to beco a wandering warrior, challenging any notable warrior he could find.

Valen extended his arm and Ren clasped it.

"Pleasure to et you, Valen." Ren was giddy inside, but pasted a cool smile outside. He was eting his very own player character in the flesh! How cool is that?!

"I rember you from the duel at Steadfast. You were among the crowd."

"Yes, I was." Valen nodded. "I didn't think you'd rember."

"I do rember." Ren chuckled. "It's hard to forget soone who looks as much as a warrior as you do."

"I shall take that as a complint."

"It is."

"After the duel at Steadfast, I have been following your exploits, Lord Terence."

"Call Ren."

"And after hearing of your exploits in the recent war, I decided that I had to duel you at least once."

"Ah… about that." Ren scratched his temple with a sheepish grin. "That wouldn't be possible."

Valen's eyes flicked to Lilith over Ren's shoulder. "I can see that."

"Yeah. She's just a bit protective of ."

Valen raised a brow as if to ask, a bit?

Ren chuckled. "However, we're working on that. So, I have a proposition for you."

"Oh?"

"Co with us on our journey to Elnoria and when my fiancee is more… settled, we can have that duel." Ren grinned, stretching his arm forward. "What do you say, Valen?"
