Chapter 996: Chapter 994: Cleanup Plan

Sniffing the nearly overwhelming stench in the air, Richard frowned deeply, puzzled by what had happened here and unable to find any sign of Long i’er.

Really, too late again?

As Richard was thinking, he suddenly heard a swoosh beside him, as if an enemy was attacking. His muscles tensed, a golden light flashed across his body, ready to strike.

But in the next mont, he stopped his movent after turning his head to see the enemy clearly.

In a corner of the square, a monster resembling a large hairless dog lunged out, but halfway through, it convulsed and fell to the ground.

Upon closer inspection, it was obvious the creature was severely wounded. Its body was originally covered with scales, but most had been corroded by a grass-green acid, with only a few remaining. The acid had also eroded more than a fifth of its muscles and half of its head, making it appear sowhat like a hairless dog.

The creature seed to have been attempting to hunt him, but its injuries flared up, causing it to fail.

In fact, judging by its current state, in another half an hour, the acid would corrode it down to the bones, and another half an hour would leave nothing – although still alive, it was as good as dead.

But the creature was not aware of this, struggling to stand, its eyes blazing red as it looked over again, mana fluctuating within, readying an attack stance.

Richard’s eyebrows arched slightly, his gaze falling upon the creature’s bulging abdon. On the surface was a cut, as if slashed by so sharp tool, vaguely revealing entangled insides – human organs.

Richard glanced at the human corpses in the square with their innards gouged out, forming a guess.

“Was it you and your companions who did this, killing so many…” he muttered to himself, confirming the danger of the monster before him.

The creature at this mont growled low, slowly opening its mouth to reveal rows of sharp teeth. Between them hung pink flesh and sticky saliva, its eyes bearing a look that sees him as food.

Richard’s lips pressed together slightly, deciding to put an early end to the creature’s life. With a grip of air, an ice cone ford in his right hand.

Compared to ordinary ice cones, this one was a size larger, over ten centiters long, with a diater of more than two centiters, resembling an ice-carved radish. The surface of the ice cone was crystal clear, reflecting a cold light, while deep blue freezing energy surged within, ready to explode.

This was a First Circle Ice Magic spell, “Frozen Air Flying Cone,” much more aggressive than a regular ice cone, sufficient in Richard’s view to end the creature’s life.

Without hesitation, Richard flicked his wrist, sending the ice cone flying with a “whoosh” towards the creature’s head.

The ice cone sped quickly, reaching the creature in the blink of an eye, seemingly about to hit. Unexpectedly, the creature reacted swiftly, raising its forepaw rapidly.

“Snap!”

The ice cone hit the creature’s forepaw, to be exact, the scales remaining on the forepaw.

The scales demonstrated powerful defense, and with a “crack,” the ice cone shattered, failing to pierce through its forepaw. However, the hidden freezing energy within the ice cone then erupted, swiftly enveloping the creature’s entire body, causing white ice crystals to form on its surface, almost freezing it into a sculpture.

The creature’s eyes widened, straining hard, as it shattered the ice crystals with a “crash,” laying low in a vigilant stance.

“Not bad, in terms of strength, for a demonized creature that’s sustained such heavy injuries to still withstand a First Circle Spell, its power should be close to a Second Order Wizard,” Richard thought, purple electric light condensing in his hand and then hurling it out without hesitation.

The creature tried to dodge, rushing towards the center of the square upon seeing the purple electric light approach. But the electric light, seemingly alive, pursued relentlessly, striking down with flash after flash, each one seemingly tearing through space.

Once, twice, thrice…

Shape Major Second Circle Thunder Magic·Chain Activated Lightning.

The lightning struck the creature a dozen tis before dissipating, leaving its body charred, yet it still managed to remain standing.

Richard’s eyes widened slightly in genuine surprise at the creature’s strength, proving much greater than he had imagined.

Then the creature seed enraged, letting out a howl and charging forward.

Richard witnessed this, grasping his hand, conjuring Langdonick’s Spear, and hurling it with force.

“Thud!”

The spear flew out, piercing the creature, creating a small hole in its body. Then blinding golden light burst from the hole, projecting through countless wounds on the creature’s surface.

Langdonick’s Spear, Glowing Spear, Gun of Glory, when striking an enemy, casts a myriad of auxiliary spear projections that strike simultaneously, ending the enemy!

Amidst dazzling golden light, the creature let out a miserable cry, falling from the air, struggling in agony, yet incredibly still not dead – having survived a First Circle Spell, a Second Circle Spell, and a powerful Third Circle Spell!

Perhaps gravely injured and on the verge of death, but alive nonetheless.

Richard was sowhat moved, recognizing the trouble the creature posed. Now with only one and already injured, it was so hard to kill. If uninjured and in greater numbers, it might truly be burdenso.

Such tenacious life force, rarely seen among demonized creatures, could it be…

“Strange species?” A thought flashed in Richard’s mind.

Maybe it really was a strange species, capable of hunting an entire small town’s humans, and Long i’er ca here to eliminate it precisely for that reason, after all the Truth Society seed to always do such things.

Richard now had a complete guess about the incident in Banchi Town.

Looking at the still gasping monster, he raised his hand, conjured another Langdonick’s Spear, and hurled it to completely end its life.

At this mont, he deduced more.

Judging from the creature’s condition, Long i’er must have left just a few minutes prior, seemingly in a hurry. Thus, rely gravely injuring the creature and ensuring its eventual death, he departed, not spending more ti cleaning up the scene.

This implies Long i’er perhaps anticipated so chain reaction from his actions in Banchi Town, rushing to prevent subsequent places from becoming alert.

Bolding a guess, perhaps Long i’er’s action to clear so many places wasn’t random, but specifically targeting the sa objective.

From Blue Lake Mountain, to Banchi Town, and then to the next place, though different locations, the enemy remained the sa.

Therefore, after finishing at Blue Lake Mountain, Banchi Town was attacked, and following Banchi Town’s handling, Long i’er hurried to the next location.

Thus, ordinary mbers of the Truth Society weren’t executing these tasks, but Long i’er himself – only he possessed such formidable abilities.

In this way, everything could be explained away.

Therefore, Richard must speed up to catch up with Long i’er at the next location. After all, he couldn’t be sure if the next place would be the last one Long i’er intended to clean up. If he was late again, he might be left further behind by the hurried enemy.

Thinking this, Richard reached for a crystal ball to start communicating with Canon.

“Bang!”

A little over a minute later, he stepped on the ground, soaring into the sky, heading straight north. It wasn’t until high altitude that he had the ti to put the crystal ball away, then accelerating towards his destination.
