Chapter 565: Chapter 563: Witch Cessi

“ow—”

With the cat’s cry, Narlyd knew without looking who had co—it had to be her soft-natured, very bully-able cat junior sister, who wouldn’t get angry no matter how much she ssed with her unless she ssed with the cat. Moreover, her junior sister was clearly better at crafting delicate things like pumpkin lamps compared to her.

Turning her head, Narlyd glanced over and saw she was right, it indeed was her cat junior sister. Holding a black cat in her arms and approaching with big, wide eyes, she asked proactively, “Narlyd senior sister, what is this…”

“Heidi, co over here.” Narlyd quickly waved her hand, beckoning her over, and thrust a dagger into her hand, saying, “Heidi, I have a very important matter right now that I need your help with.”

“Ah? What is it?”

“I need you to make a pumpkin lamp.”

“A pumpkin lamp? What for?”

“Never mind what it’s for, just help make one first. I’m really distressed because I was just about to succeed in making one, but I accidentally smashed it, and I don’t feel like making a second one at all. So, you have to help .”

“Erm… okay then.” The cat slave girl Heidi hesitated for a mont, her long eyelashes fluttering, and finally agreed. She placed the black cat from her arms onto the ground, and walked over to the pile of pumpkins, not going for the large pumpkins like Narlyd did, instead choosing a very small one.

Holding the small pumpkin, Heidi walked up to the stone table and tidied up the surface, then set the pumpkin on top of it. Holding the dagger, she carefully cut a small opening at the top and ticulously cleaned out the inside of the pumpkin. Towards the end, so pulp stuck stubbornly to the inner wall, making Heidi frown.

The next mont, Heidi stretched out her fair hand towards the opening and moved her lips slightly, a puff of ice mist entered the pumpkin with a “poof”—having been guided by Narlyd and her teacher, she was already a first-level wizard apprentice and could cast several simple zero-circle spells, so the Ice Mist Skill naturally wasn’t a challenge for her.

As the ice mist entered the pumpkin, the remaining pumpkin pulp quickly cooled and hardened.

Heidi once again slid the dagger inside and cleared away the last bits of pulp, obtaining a clean pumpkin shell.

Narlyd watched from the side, her eyes wide in surprise, never having thought that magic could be used in such a way. After all, she was a third-level wizard apprentice, much more powerful than Heidi. If she had used the sa spell, the effect would have been better than Heidi’s, but while making the pumpkin lamp just now, the concept hadn’t even crossed her mind.

Was she too dumb?

Impossible!

Narlyd shook her head vigorously, completely unwilling to accept it.

anwhile, the black cat Mi Qi, lying on the ground, suddenly jumped onto the stone table, curiously approaching the spilt pumpkin pulp, tentatively licked it with her tongue. Finding it not tasty, she owed in slight displeasure, gave Narlyd a disdainful look, jumped down from the table, and ran to a sunny spot to lie down and start napping.

Narlyd keenly sensed that the black cat seed to be looking down on her. She really wanted to ask the cat what it ant, but seeing that Heidi was still busy, she scowled at the cat’s retreating back, holding back her words.

By then, Heidi had started to carve patterns into the pumpkin’s outer wall. After sequentially etching out eyes, a nose, and a mouth, she carefully removed the excess pumpkin rind with the dagger.

“When it was all said and done, a standard Pumpkin Lamp was finally completed. It grinned broadly, bearing a touch of childlike mirth.

‘Look, senior, how did I do? Are you satisfied with my work?’ Heidi held up the finished Pumpkin Lamp and asked Narlyd.

Narlyd looked it over and nodded in satisfaction, ‘Very good, very good. Now you just have to make nine more like this for , and I’ll be able to complete the task my teacher gave .’

‘The task your teacher gave you? What, were you tasked by the teacher to carve the Pumpkin Lamps, Narlyd senior?’

‘Um, well…’ Narlyd, realizing she let sothing slip, walked up to Heidi and asked earnestly, ‘Heidi, am I good to you normally?’

‘Yes,’ Heidi said, ‘but…’

‘There’s no but!’ Narlyd didn’t give Heidi a chance to retort, ‘Just knowing that I’m good to you is enough. So, you must help this ti. You have no idea how difficult it is for to make one Pumpkin Lamp, and the teacher even insisted on making ten. Do you know I am almost going insane?’

‘Then…’ Heidi hesitated, then said softly, ‘Alright, I’ll help you. But if the teacher finds out…’

‘Don’t worry, the teacher won’t find out.’ Narlyd assured Heidi confidently, ‘The teacher must be upstairs right now, engrossed in so Ancient Magic. As long as I don’t tell her, she will never guess it was you who helped .’

‘Ahem!’ Just then, a light cough sounded, and a figure stepped out of the wooden house and said slowly, ‘Are you so sure I couldn’t guess?’

‘Gah!’ Narlyd suddenly stiffened like a duck caught by the neck, turned around rigidly to face the person who had erged from inside the building, and really wanted to exclaim ‘Teacher, how co you make no sound when you walk?’ But in the end, she simply bowed her head and weakly said, ‘Teacher,’ in a rather complex tone.

Heidi, realizing her own mistake too, gently placed the Pumpkin Lamp down, lowered her head, and echoed weakly, ‘Teacher.’

‘Both of you, look at .’ The woman who ca out commanded, and Narlyd and Heidi imdiately obediently turned to look at her.

The woman looked to be in her thirties, slender, wearing a long white robe that seed to flutter weakly in the breeze. Her appearance wasn’t outstanding, but she exuded a deanor that was both calming and enigmatic.

She was none other than Narlyd and Heidi’s teacher, and also the wizard in charge of the Jungle Hut gathering place. Her powers weren’t particularly extraordinary; to others, she was just a First-level High Order Wizard. But, because she was proficient in many Ancient Magic spells, everyone felt she was unfathomably deep, and even Second-level Wizards dared not provoke her lightly.

Moreover, she preferred tranquility over activity, rarely engaging in conflicts of interest with anyone, and had helped many. So there were practically no wizards who truly wished to tangle with her, and if anyone did, a large group of wizards from the Wizard Association would co to her aid.

This was her—Cessi.

At this mont, Cessi regarded her two students for a while, then her gaze fell on Narlyd, speaking in a mildly irritated tone, ‘Narlyd, I asked you to make the Pumpkin Lamp yourself, but you went and got help from Heidi. Isn’t that a bit out of line?’

‘Teacher—’ Narlyd looked at Cessi, trying to defend herself with so grievance, ‘You can’t bla , making Pumpkin Lamps is too hard. I really couldn’t do it, so I asked Heidi for help. Actually, you could let do sothing else, like wandering around the forest and look for so fat, dumb rabbits, catch a few for roasting tonight. I can guarantee there won’t be any problems.’

Cessi said, ‘Of course, I know there would be no issue with you catching rabbits; in fact, the rabbits around this gathering area are almost all gone because of you. Not just the rabbits, the other animals have decreased a lot too, and even the wolves are beginning to stay away from here. And yes, I knew that you wouldn’t be able to handle making Pumpkin Lamps. Actually, I did it on purpose.’

‘Oh?'”
