"Mayer." Richard spoke with a smile.
"My Lord." Mayer bowed in greeting.
"You know, I suddenly feel a bit disappointed in you."
"My Lord... can you tell why?"
"I can. It’s actually quite simple. I initially thought you possessed several of the important qualities needed to be under my command, but the truth is, you don’t."
"My Lord!" Mayer exclaid, full of sincerity, "I am absolutely loyal to you. I swear by my ancestors."
Are you trying to beco the second Alex of White Stone Tower... I’ve dug up his ancestors’ graves more than once... Will you also beco like this... However, there shouldn’t be any Black Spirit King’s Treasure buried in your ancestors’ graves... Wouldn’t be worth my effort to dig.
Richard raised his eyebrows, locked eyes with Mayer’s sincere gaze, and said, "I don’t really doubt your loyalty... In fact, it wouldn’t matter much if you were disloyal because I have more than enough ans to ensure your loyalty, believe ."
Richard nodded persuasively at Mayer, paused, then continued, "Compared to loyalty, what I value more is wisdom, and you score very low in that regard. Firstly, privately supporting the Thief Group in plundering the economic cooperative area to gain bloody money, shows your foolishness.
After all, supporting the Thief Group in plundering can indeed accumulate a large amount of wealth in a short ti, but over ti, trade developnt stagnates, even regresses, and cannot be sustained. On the contrary, if you have a long-term vision, maintaining good order to let trade flourish results in astronomical taxation figures just from long-term trade taxes. Not to ntion, you can leverage your own power to seize monopoly positions in one or several comrcial fields to profit greatly.
Simply put, it’s the difference between taking a small piece of cake and enlarging the cake before sharing, and you chose the forr. This is rather short-sighted and doesn’t et my expectation of your wisdom."
"But My Lord..." Mayer didn’t fully understand Richard’s words, but it didn’t affect his understanding that Richard still suspected his collusion with the Thief Group, vigorously arguing, "But My Lord... I really don’t know anyone from the Thief Group, nor do I have any connections with them."
"Sigh." Richard shook his head, exhaled, and looked at Mayer softly, saying, "You see, this is the thing that disappoints the most, the true reason for deciding to abandon you. Actually, you can be foolish; you can make mistakes—as the saying goes, people aren’t gods, at least allow one mistake in a lifeti.
After all, you can’t be sure what the developnt of the economic cooperative area will look like; trying to earn so money isn’t a big deal. After all, this thod isn’t created by you; you just followed the existing ga rules and expanded it.
The issue is, you cannot keep making mistakes. I already had people inform you and others, when I gathered you in Black Water City, to investigate your jurisdiction. So what I said is not heard randomly but seen with my own eyes and verified with my actions. Only then will I question you at this eting, in front of so many people.
If you can understand this, decisively admit your mistakes, then go back and kill your brother-in-law or make other arrangents, just clear out the Thief Group, set the economic cooperative area on a healthy developnt path, everything would be fine.
But you... sigh, what can I say, insistently denying and rejecting again and again. This makes feel... not only is your wisdom lacking, but you also think my wisdom isn’t great.
In this case, I really cannot tolerate it."
At the end, Richard’s gaze seed weighted, staring at Mayer.
Mayer’s body shuddered, as if pierced by two long spears, his lips moved, trying to struggle, with a voice of grievance, "My Lord, I really didn’t..."
"Enough!" Richard interrupted Mayer’s words, then looked at Mayer’s face for several seconds, slowly saying, "Please... shut... up."
With the utterance of the last three words, the air in front of Richard fluctuated, rippled like the surface of water, quickly rushed to Mayer, splashing on his upper body.
Mayer "thumped" back into his seat, wanting to speak but found an invisible force sealed his mouth, while also blocking his nose and choking his throat.
"Mmm-mmm-mmm~"
A vague sound echoed from Mayer’s throat, his eyes almost bulging, feet kicking wildly on the ground, hands desperately clutching his neck, trying to tear away the mysterious force. But he simply couldn’t do it, his cheeks gradually reddening, then turning purple and black, his eyeballs filling with blood, almost bursting.
In the end, his whole body convulsed, slumping limp on the seat, motionless.
Everyone around, the entire hall, watched the whole transformation, most bodies shivered slightly, with so tightly clamping their legs to suppress the sudden urge to urinate. They dared not breathe deeply, the hall as silent as a grave.
If, a week ago, Bi Bi’s appearance showed dazzling and impressive ans,
Then Richard’s current display was plain yet chilling.
After all, Bi Bi’s thod was obviously either deadly or painful... but in most cases, just deadly—no pain felt—a montary affair.
Richard was different; his thod unfolded bit by bit, a suffocating, intensely painful, hopeless death.
That’s quite terrifying.
At this mont, the people in the hall, looking at Richard, already felt what ca was not rely a powerful Wizard but a Dark Demon King.
The Dark Demon King seed unaware, seemingly not knowing that his action had caused great fear among those present. After eliminating Mayer, he paused for a few seconds before opening his mouth again, "Well, it seems Mr. Mayer isn’t quite fit to be the Deputy Director of the Shalin Efficiency Departnt, so who among the rest is willing to give it a try?"
"This..."
The people in the hall, looked at each other, sitting upright like primary school students, not uttering a word. The whole venue was utterly silent; no one dared to stand out.
Those with strength who had wanted to compete with Mayer also displayed complex emotions.
To say the least, they were happy Richard killed Mayer. With Mayer’s death, many interests would beco ownerless, allowing them to divide it—though they may not conquer it entirely, newfound resources are always welco.
Besides, Mayer’s death counted as sweeping away their obstacles, giving them all a chance to beco the Deputy Director of the Efficiency Departnt.
But happiness lasted only for a few seconds, once they seriously considered Mayer’s bulging-eyed, slumped, yet not yet cold corpse, they cald down, forced to think more comprehensively.
Mayer was the first to stand up, initially in a good situation, but after Richard asked two questions, he died.
Wouldn’t they follow suit?
Perhaps worse than Mayer, maybe only being asked one question before being killed by Richard. Because honestly, compared to Mayer, though their jurisdictions may be smaller, the bad deeds done were similar, given the pursuit of profit ant participating in so killings and arson.
