Midnight.
Sika Kingdom’s border defense line, Bastana outpost.
Outside the outpost, a small team of over a dozen soldiers was patrolling with torches, guarding against small infiltrations by the Alliance. Normally, they didn’t put much heart into this work, but with the recent heavy military pressure from both countries, they had to raise their spirits to the utmost.
They’d already heard that the Soma Alliance gathered entire five Alliance Armies.
A small team was around ten people, a large team a hundred, a group a thousand, a corps ten thousand, and an Alliance Army a hundred thousand - five Alliance Armies ant about five hundred thousand troops.
And on the Sika Kingdom’s side, they were not weak either, gathering a full four Alliance Armies. The military structure of the two countries was similar, but the Sika Kingdom preferred various Elite Battalions, Reinforcent Groups, and Reinforcent Armies, often exceeding in numbers, so the total and the Soma Alliance were roughly the sa.
Considering this, about a million soldiers gathered at the border, a thought that alone was enough to make one tremble - an unprecedented scene.
In such a situation, soldiers like them could only leave their fate to fortune, as being thrown into a battle of millions, they were no different than a small stone cast into the sea, causing not even a splash before sinking.
Therefore, they kept praying for the situation to persist, hoping war wouldn’t break out.
This might be cowardice, but they were just soldiers, victory or rit had nothing to do with them, all they wanted was to stay alive.
However, reality often ran contrary to expectations.
Life always showed its worst side - Murphy’s Law.
A small team of soldiers patrolled a round, calculated the ti right, and was ready to return to the outpost to switch with the next batch when suddenly they heard so noise in the night.
The sound was faint at first, almost inaudible, but within seconds, it grew deafening, like thunder exploding, with a rumbling that felt like thousands of buffalo charging.
"What is that!"
The soldiers shouted out, looking towards the direction the sound ca from, and the next mont saw heavy cavalry clad in heavy armor, slicing through the darkness like a blade through butter. The heavy cavalry ford a dense formation, like an imnse, endless black arrow, flying close to the ground.
Sika Kingdom’s soldiers’ eyes widened, and they instinctively shouted: "Enemy attack!"
Their bodies turned stiff, but their trained reaction kicked in, quickly grabbing the horn at their waists and blowing it with all their might.
"Woo~ Woo~"
The ancient sound spread quickly, and the patrolling soldiers turned and ran.
anwhile, back at the Bastana outpost, there was already a reaction, with multiple figures flying out, heading towards the charging Soma Alliance army.
The figures flying out were wizards, who had just received a notice from above to launch a full attack a mont before dawn. They were slightly surprised that the Soma Alliance was a step faster but weren’t too flustered, trying to cast spells according to the plan to delay the Soma Alliance’s offensive, buying ti for their side to counterattack.
As they flew closer, light appeared in their hands, forming spells.
But just as the spells were half-ford, several lances glowing gray and dark blue approached like lightning, hitting their bodies.
"Boom! Boom!"
Several explosions sounded, and the Sika Wizards in the air were instantly killed, their bodies falling to the ground. These were attacks from the hidden Soma Alliance wizards and Magic Knights among the heavy cavalry - Sika Kingdom had plans against the Soma Alliance’s assault, and the Soma Alliance had counter-plans against the Sika Kingdom.
This was war, a chess-like war, whoever thought more had the advantage.
"Da Da Da..."
The dense sound of hooves rang, as the heavy cavalry trampled over the bodies of the Sika Wizards, charging straight towards the Bastana outpost.
At this point, the heavy armor infantry, holding spears over four ters long, poured out from the outpost, forming a phalanx as the second wave of obstruction.
Simultaneously, hoof beats sounded from the left and right, cavalry from other outposts ca to assist, planning to flank the Soma Alliance’s charging heavy cavalry - as ntioned before, the people of Sika Kingdom had already decided to attack a mont before dawn, so the army was ready, and responded quickly to the Soma Alliance’s attack. The assisting cavalry from both sides had even detected the situation before the patrolling soldiers’ horn sounded and were dispatched in ti.
It appeared now that the heavy cavalry of the Soma Alliance was the one at a disadvantage.
But they showed no fear of being intercepted by the enemy cavalry on both sides, nor did they slow their charge, continuing forward.
"Da Da Da..."
New hoof beats erged, as another wave of Soma Alliance heavy cavalry broke out of the darkness, coordinating and accelerating, changing direction, blocking the Sika Kingdom’s reinforcing forces from the left and right.
A mont later, the brutal sound of collision rang out, battle erupted, and the war truly began.
This scene unfolded near the Bastana outpost and simultaneously at various locations along the two nations’ border - it was a microcosm, a reflection, as in a short ti, the entire border erupted into chaos, turning into a ss.
An hour, two hours, three hours passed.
Three hours later, the situation on the boiling pot of the border battlefield beca incredibly complex, with only the highest command room able to comprehend the overall situation, while soldiers and officers engaged were completely baffled. So units even lost their structure entirely, relying solely on the capabilities of grassroots officers to adapt, deciding whether to keep attacking or to retreat.
Mario was one such example.
He could be called extrely fortunate, having unintentionally fallen into a tunnel, getting his rank promoted by three levels, jumping to beco a Senior Centurion, just one step away from a Centurion.
This was already considered a clear military officer’s status, and as an officer, the Red Maple Cavalry Group’s leader naturally wouldn’t let him remain under his original Small Team Leader as a soldier, so a few people were drawn from various small teams in the group to form a temporary specially composed team for him, totaling nine people including himself.
He was extrely excited about this, having made countless preparations, just waiting to get to the front line and lead his team to earn so rits, becoming a true Centurion.
But he could also be considered extrely unfortunate.
The Red Maple Cavalry Group he belonged to didn’t get the vanguard role and was assigned as backup forces in the rear, only being deployed when the front line attack was frustrated. As they were trying hard to break through the enemy’s defense, they encountered the Sika Kingdom’s Magic Knight Battalion.
They were indeed an elite cavalry group, but clearly no match for the Magic Knight Battalion, so under the group leader’s furious roar of "Where are our Magic Knights?", they quickly changed direction to break through from the side.
