Research is a very expensive endeavor. Take Earth, for instance, where the United States alone must spend billions of dollars annually across various domains. Among these, life sciences, dicine, atomic physics, and nuclear physics always consu the largest portion. Due to the possibility of pursuing the wrong research direction, this practice is almost like venture capital. Without money, you simply cannot engage in scientific research.

That is why Wang Qi logically chose to begin with Wanfa Sect. After all, a newcor couldn't possibly apply for experintal equipnt or research funding, and if one wished to build reputation without conducting experints, mathematics seed to be the best choice.

Unfortunately, Wang Qi had overlooked one thing.

Though the Modern Cultivators of Shenzhou are researchers, they don't just focus on theories; they encompass both theory and technology. And in handling technology, sects inevitably have to dirty their hands.

You didn't think you could rely solely on computers, did you, Wang Qi? You surely had to exchange for so classic calculation designs from Shenzhou, right? For better assimilation and absorption, you would also need to refine a few by yourself, right? And then, for better application of your own Magic Foundation, wouldn't it be reasonable to get hands-on and write so programs?

But design blueprints, while not necessarily deep in theory, are the crystals of technology. And technology, often enough, is more expensive than theory—E=mc^2 is a well-known equation, but nuclear bomb technology remains a national top secret.

Moreover, Wang Qi himself was a physicist; he still needed his mathematics knowledge for theoretical physics. This at least involved differential equations, mathematical physics equations, tensor analysis, differential geotry, complex functions, special functions, and integral transformations. If he only wanted to scrape by, so paid textbooks would suffice, but if he aid for mastery, a substantial volu of materials and practice problems were indispensable.

The ergence of Holy Light ant an additional expense for Wang Qi—purchasing texts related to the Life Path. Ai Qinglan had responded half a month ago that she was engrossed in a very critical research project and didn't have spare ti to analyze Holy Light. However, she could confirm that Wang Qi's Holy Light was indeed a Divine Skill akin to Life Fla. Such a premium-level Divine Skill was indeed too valuable to abandon, hence, Wang Qi also had to catch up on this knowledge area.

As for the previously fancied idea of combining "theory with cultivation techniques"... sorry, it hadn't even begun.

"Forget it, forget it... it's only been a month; it's normal not to have any progress yet," Wang Qi exited the environnt. In reality, he sat on a Taishi Chair. This chair was placed in a small compartnt, surrounded by walls and a ceiling fitted with mirror-type calculators, allowing one to completely imrse in the Ten Thousand Immortals Illusion Realm.

However, this was not a free service. Wang Qi took his Immortal Registration Token from the left armrest of his chair and inserted it back into the spirit pool in the leg of the chair. Feeling the deduction of Spiritual Power from the spirit pool, Wang Qi sighed again: "Really, at this rate, I won't even be able to co to the 'internet cafe.'"

The calculators at the Wanfa Sect's Divine Capital Station were nothing beyond fourth-generation computer antiques—limited in Path Rank usability, not to ntion slow in processing. The Jade Token in his hand did seem sowhat akin to a fifth-generation computer with a relatively user-friendly interface, but its computing power was no better than a netbook from his previous life.

Mastering calculator theory couldn't be done by groping around with these devices. This Immortal Alliance Branch "internet cafe" just barely addressed Wang Qi's urgent needs.

But...

Looking at the dwindling Spiritual Energy in the spirit pool, Wang Qi chuckled bitterly: "This is not a sustainable solution."

After rolling up printed paid papers and storing them in his Storage Bag, Wang Qi finally left the Immortal Alliance Branch and headed toward the Wanfa Sect's station along the street, casually purchasing so long-lasting pastry to toss into his Storage Bag. With so much to study, he was incredibly busy lately and had no ti to find food on the streets. Since he already could fast for a long period after practicing Qi Cultivation, hunger was rely a mild discomfort, easily brushed aside by eating just a bit.

"The key issue is still inco..."

Along the way, Wang Qi tapped his head, his expression filled with extre distress. Inside the Immortal Institute, everything including food and clothing was free, and for rits, following Su Junyu into an instance or clearing minor monsters on Xin Mountain Peak brought in rits automatically. However, once he left the Immortal Institute, these special arrangents ceased, and rits had to be obtained through tasks from the Immortal Alliance Branch, where tasks for the Qi Cultivation Stage only offered a few rits.

Of course, higher rit tasks were available. For example, Wang Qi saw recruitnt for personnel to hunt down the Hongyuan Cult in the Jingxiang Plain. Capturing three cultists earned one rit, a Cult Witch was worth two rits, and demolishing their lair could earn five to fifteen rits depending on its size.

This was indeed a good way to earn rits. Cult Witches often carried the aura of Entropy-increasing Demons, which was very conspicuous to Wang Qi. However, this approach required too much ti and also ant leaving Divine Capital. Wang Qi needed many important people to think he was dedicatedly researching in Divine Capital before he could advance his theories.

"What to do..."

"Ah, Senior Brother Wang, why do you look so troubled?" Just then, Wang Qi suddenly heard soone calling him and looked up to see it was Mo Zhenzhen. It turned out that without realizing it, he had accidentally walked back to the Wanfa Sect's station.

Mo Zhenzhen was the first person Wang Qi had t after arriving in Divine Capital, and they had grown quite familiar over the month. Wang Qi didn't hide his troubles and briefly explained his predicant, clearly stating he needed to continue studying and couldn't leave Divine Capital. After explaining, he eagerly looked at Mo Zhenzhen: "Junior Sister Mo, you've been in Divine Capital for a few years; do you know any tasks that don't require much ti, offer good rits, and don't need leaving Divine Capital?"

"Pfft... If I knew of such tasks, I would have done them myself, okay?" Mo Zhenzhen first giggled, then gave Wang Qi a peculiar look: "Co to think of it, Senior Brother Wang, you also know the benefits of rits, huh? I thought you lacked nothing."

Wang Qi felt slightly embarrassed. He had been holed up in his room all month. Aside from making occasional three to five day visits to the Immortal Alliance Branch to use the calculator, he barely left his ho, understandably giving off a sowhat unapproachable aura to others.

"Alright, no more joking," seeing Wang Qi's truly anxious expression, Mo Zhenzhen stopped laughing: "Actually, there are tasks that et your requirents, but they sound quite creepy."

Wang Qi couldn't care less at this point: "It's fine."

Mo Zhenzhen looked at Wang Qi tentatively: "Is human subject experintation also acceptable?"
