Lin Banxia glared at her with fury in her eyes, speaking angrily: "No money for you, but I’m definitely taking what’s my mom’s."

"Oh, such big talk. If you don’t give money, I won’t return the stuff to you. I’ll burn it all." Cheng Rouyin sneered in reply.

"You wouldn’t dare..." Lin Banxia imdiately grew agitated, glaring angrily at her.

"Try and see!" Cheng Rouyin was no pushover either.

Lin Banxia had no other options, so she reached into her wallet and took out a card: "There’s 100,000 yuan on this card—all yours. Just give back my mom’s belongings."

"100,000 yuan? Are you trying to throw scraps at ? And anyway, that money ca right out of this household." Cheng Rouyin scoffed at the sum—barely enough to buy her a luxury handbag.

Anger overca Lin Banxia. She shoved the card back and pulled out her phone, ready to make a call.

"Who are you calling? Let tell you—no one’s going to help. If you won’t pay, I won’t hand over the stuff." Cheng Rouyin said bitterly.

"I’m calling the police!" Lin Banxia shot back with three firm words.

Cheng Rouyin froze, clearly not expecting this brat to be bold enough to involve the police.

"I’ll tell them my belongings are missing, that I suspect theft, and have them settle this." Lin Banxia had grown shrewd; knowing her father wouldn’t help her, she decided she had to find her own way forward.

Cheng Rouyin snorted: "That junk of yours isn’t worth anything. The police won’t bother with it."

"Those photos aren’t worth money, sure. But my mom’s jewelry is in there too—they’re worth a good hundred thousand." Lin Banxia knew her mother was from a wealthy family, rumored to have brought a dowry worth millions. Her father had relied on her mother’s family’s connections to start his company and build his business.

Cheng Rouyin was well aware the gold and silver jewelry inside had value. She hadn’t touched it because it was the late wife’s belongings—objects linked to the dead carried bad luck in her eyes.

"Fine, don’t make any calls. I’ll return the stuff, but you better keep away from in the future." Cheng Rouyin backed down, not wanting to deal with the police. She cared about appearances—even though the authorities wouldn’t harm her, rumors could tarnish her reputation.

Lin Banxia had only wanted to scare her but didn’t expect her to fold so quickly, letting out a subdued breath of relief.

Cheng Rouyin went upstairs and ca down carrying a small rosewood box, throwing it violently at Lin Banxia’s feet. The old box was so worn that the impact split its wooden panels, revealing the items inside.

"How dare you ruin my mom’s belongings!" Lin Banxia’s eyes burned red with rage, her small hands clenched tightly into fists.

"Yeah, well, it’s all just stuff from a dead person—it was broken to begin with." Cheng Rouyin finally felt so satisfaction.

Lin Banxia suppressed her seething anger, carefully gathering the items piece by piece. Standing upright again, she stared icily at Cheng Rouyin: "I’ll rember this. We’ll settle this account sooner or later."

"You stupid brat, who do you think you’re talking to? No manners at all. Don’t forget—I’m your stepmother. What can you possibly do against ?" Cheng Rouyin, accustod to bullying Lin Banxia since childhood, wasn’t fazed by her threats.

Lin Banxia spun on her heel and stord out.

Back in the car, Lin Banxia carefully sorted her mother’s belongings into a bag.

Suddenly...

An old, worn pocket watch slipped out from among the heirlooms.
