"She's burning with fever. I didn't even notice she was this sick when you brought her to the party with you." Zhang Jiren wasn't sure if he should discuss the possibility of her being pregnant with Tang Beixuan's child over the phone. He supposed that he and Li Yuanyi could only confirm this once the doctor made an acurate prognosis of Li ili's condition.
"Alright. I'll be there as soon as I can." Li Yuanyi said before hanging up.
Zhang Jiren returned to the private ward where Li ili was in, but it seed like the doctor as well as the nurses were not yet done. He just saw a nurse leaving in a hurry with Li ili's sample of blood in her hand.
His brows knitted at that. What could be wrong with Li ili that the doctor requested to do blood work on her? Zhang Jiren could only wait for them to finish while he checked his watch for the umpteenth ti, waiting for Li Yuanyi's arrival. What was taking him so long? He wondered.
He paced back and forth in the empty hallway as he waited. At least, there weren't any other people at this ti, or else Zhang Jiren was sure that his na, as well as Li ili's would be on the headlines of several news agencies even before dawn breaks.
Half an hour later, Li ili's condition was stabilized and the doctor ca to Zhang Jiren to speak with him. Zhang Jiren imdiately stood up from his seat once he spotted the doctor coming his way.
"Doctor, how is she?" He asked in a hurry. Damn, Li Yuanyi for being late. He should have arrived ten minutes ago, but the man was nowhere to be found.
The doctor checked the results in his hand and removed the spectacles on his face, taking a sigh.
"You are lucky you were able to bring her here on ti. I'm afraid it wouldn't be good if you ca here even a minute later than you did." He told Zhang Jiren, which only made the latter confused with his words.
"I don't understand…"
"Are you her boyfriend? Husband, perhaps? Congratulations. She's a few weeks pregnant."
Zhang Jiren's thoughts turned blank at the announcent. Although he had considered the possibility of Li ili being pregnant, it still shocked him to know that she really was.
"Who's pregnant?" Zhang Jiren heard a familiar voice behind him and saw Li Yuanyi standing there, panting hard as if he had just ran here in a hurry. "I said who's pregnant?" He repeated himself.
"Ah, and you are?" The doctor asked Li Yuanyi.
"I'm the patient's brother. Are you telling us she's pregnant?" Li Yuanyi answered.
The doctor nodded. The blood test couldn't be mistaken. Li ili was indeed pregnant. Ten weeks at that.
"She is. The patient just had a spotting and ran a high fever. She's lucky she ca here in ti. We gave her dicine that would help to stop the bleeding and that would keep her baby. I suggest putting her on bed rest for a few weeks and lessen the stress on her. The patient is a little under nourished and it wouldn't be good for her child if this keeps up."
Li Yuanyi's jaws hardened while Zhang Jiren finally recovered from his shock. This was sothing he couldn't help the Li siblings with. He doubted that Li ili was aware of her own condition.
Li Yuanyi exchanged a few words with the doctor and received a few pieces of advice from him. After that, he went to Zhang Jiren. who was waiting for him. The man could have left his sister the mont he dropped Li ili, but Zhang Jiren had chosen to stay with her.
"I have to thank you for bringing my sister here. I have no idea this would happen." Li Yuanyi confessed to him. If he had known that his sister was in a delicate condition, he wouldn't have asked her to co out with him tonight.
"Please keep this a secret, if you don't mind. I'm sure our father wouldn't take this news lightly if he found out ili is pregnant." Li Yuanyi paused as if sothing was bothering him. "You think it's his?"
"Don't call it an 'it'. That child is either your nephew or niece, and yes, I don't doubt that the baby is Tang Beixuan's." Zhang Jiren didn't think that Li ili would cheat behind Tang Beixuan's back and would sleep around with other n. "Rest assured that I will keep this a secret, especially from Zhang Wuying."
Li Yuanyi froze when he heard those words. The aning of what Zhang Jiren was trying to imply struck him. If Zhang Wuying knew that the baby was Tang Beixuan's, she would definitely try to use the child for her advantage.
Wasn't this why Tang Beixuan and Li ili had chosen to keep their relationship discreet? The two didn't want to give Zhang Wuying and the Zhang family a reason to target Li ili's family.
"I understand." Li Yuanyi nodded. "I'll talk to her about it." He also needed to co up with a plan, just in case the news of her pregnancy reached their parents' ears. Li Yuanyi was sure that another verbal war would erupt between his sister and her parents because of it.
"I can't thank you enough for saving ili and her child's life today. I'm sorry you were also dragged into our family affairs."
"Don't ntion it. I'm glad I was able to help her even once."
Zhang Jiren waived his apology and gave Li ili a last look before he left. She looked better now, which gave him relief. Li ili had done a lot of things and had sacrificed a lot for his twin sister.
What he did tonight would never be enough to repay Li ili's kindness towards Tang Moyu, especially since he was too weak and cowardly to step forward to protect his sister from everyone who wanted to harm her.
