Book 6: Chapter 99: Shattered

The fireworks lit up Gerald’s sour face.

“Damn it.”

He clutched his forehead, realizing a fatal flaw in Lilith, who was already totally under his control—the ancient runes were simply too old!

He had cast these runes on this highly suitable soul when he first found it nine million years ago. Out of fear of Regalis, he had never maintained or updated them.

Although they still functioned, the Lilith he controlled now behaved with robotic simplicity.

She would attack or defend when commanded. But more complex orders would stump her, because she was not a smart puppet.

“Never mind. There’s no ti to rework the runes now. I’ll use her as best as I can.” Gerald’s hostile eyes locked onto the figure attacking relentlessly like a violent storm.

He let out a cold chuckle. “You truly never cease to surprise, Regalis. But how long can you keep this up? Feeding the black fla to delay its advance is no different than quenching thirst with poison. It’ll indeed cause a brief delay, but haven’t you noticed that it has grown stronger?”

“How much longer can you last? Once it consus everything, that’ll be the end of you!”

Regalis remained silent as though she hadn’t heard a word. Her golden eyes were fixed on the black crystal before her.

She struck at the indestructible substance again and again, tirelessly as if she were a machine.

Every blow ca at full force, honed through countless battles. Even deity lords would hesitate to face such punches head-on.

But absolute power ca with a price—stamina and… backlash.

In a clash of raw might, the weaker one always paid the price with blood. But the black crystal would never bleed. So the one bleeding was…

Regalis inhaled deeply, calming the turmoil in her veins.

Her gaze dropped to her fists. Her left skeletal hand could not bleed, but tiny fractures had begun webbing across its white surface.

Her right hand was soaked in blood.

The Dragon Queen’s blood, refined over centuries, held imnse weight and vitality. A single drop was potent enough to revive a withered star.

Now, it had completely soaked through her wide sleeves.

She had long forsaken the regenerative power of dragons to pursue “strength” and “resilience”.

So when she bled… it ant she was severely injured.

Gerald knew this too. So when he saw her bleeding, he smiled smugly.

“See, Regalis? Your efforts are futile. Although you had withstood the Dragon Eater nine million years ago, you never broke their black crystal, right? What makes you think you can now?”

“Don’t tell you think the love for your daughter is enough. Hahaha… That’s the funniest thing I’ve heard in my life.”

Gerald flicked his massive dragon claw. An invisible force suddenly tugged at Lilith’s emotionless face, pulling her lips into a strange smile.

Gerald imitated her voice in a sickening falsetto. “Co on, Mommy~ Just try a little harder, and I’ll be back in your arms~”

“Shut up!”

“Oh dear, why are you so upset, Mommy? I’ve always loved you~”

“I said, shut up!”

The Dragon Queen raised her head. Her golden eyes flared with killing intent. The invisible force pierced through the black crystal and struck Gerald.

The mocking smile on his face froze.

“It’s fine. The black crystal can’t be broken. She’s just bluffing,” Gerald comforted himself after the scare.

He then saw the Dragon Queen raising her hand. “What, still not giving up?” Gerald couldn’t hide his mocking smile again.

“Give up?” the Dragon Queen exhaled softly. Suddenly, fierce gales howled through the once silent void. “Gerald, have you misunderstood sothing? How can I possibly give up?”

Her beloved daughter was right there, so close that she could almost reach her. Though Lilith said nothing, the look in her eyes was begging her mother to save her.

How could she possibly give up now? How could she abandon her? Even if she was an unworthy mother, what mother could give up at a mont like this?

“Hmph. Struggle all you want. It’s futile against the absolute defense of the black crystal.” Gerald scoffed coldly.

He had given up relying on Lilith to kill the Dragon Queen with her black flas. Instead, the Dragon Queen’s reckless assault on the black crystal worked in his favor.

Without that, he might have had no choice but to retreat in disgrace today.

“Absolute?” Regalis laughed softly. “You still don’t get it, do you? There’s no such thing as absolute in this world, just like that plan of yours.”

She raised her hand, but didn’t strike. Instead, while sidestepping the black flas, she tore away the wide, flowing sleeves of her robe. The fabric, crafted from special materials, was nearly weightless.

“That’s because you betrayed ! If not for you, it would’ve worked! You ruined everything, Regalis!”

Gerald crushed a nearby star in his hand, clenching his teeth in fury. “But this ti, a puppet will never betray !”

The Dragon Queen said nothing. She simply shifted her focus once more to her fists entirely.

They, along with her arms, burst into flas. But those were not her innate azure flas; they were blood-red. She was combusting her own blood!

“Gerald, a coward like you will never understand that willpower shapes strength.”

“What are you talking about?”

“The Dragon Eater is indeed terrifying. Even I struggled to defeat it nine million years ago. But…”

Once again, she swung her fist.

“I refuse to believe I can’t overco a little girl with no will to fight… whose very soul is crying out for help!”

*BOOM!*

It sounded as if the heavens had cracked.

Her nearly-shattered fist struck the black crystal once more, but this ti, they didn’t hear the sound of colliding marbles.

Instead, it was a loud explosion that would make the world cry in agony!

Gerald stared ahead, stunned.

Beads of blood burst from the Dragon Queen’s skin. She looked like a porcelain doll that would break at any mont. But before that happened…

*Crack.*

A faint sound, so soft that it was nearly drowned out by the thunderous impact, reached Gerald’s ears.

Spiderweb-like cracks spread from the point where her fist struck. The flas had extinguished, but she was still bleeding.

On that perfect, polished surface, Gerald saw his own pale, horrified reflection.

The black crystal shattered.
