Book 6: Chapter 60: Answer

“The Dragon Queen… she’s not soone you should be looking up to anymore!” Li Desheng’s growl rumbled like thunder in the desolate space.

Lilith froze in horror, like a little girl startled by a sudden storm. Strength drained from her limbs, and it beca difficult just to stay on her feet.

“Let … think through this.” She pushed Li Desheng away with the little strength she had left. Taking a deep breath, she added, “I need so ti.”

“…Fine.” Li Desheng closed his eyes for a brief mont, then stepped back into the shadow of the Dragon Monolith. He reached into his shirt pocket, pulled out the now battered cigarette pack, and lit the last one inside.

“Think it over. But I should warn you—those terms were made by the Thoughtless Deity Lord alone. The other deity lords are arriving soon, and I can’t say how they’ll view you.”

He exhaled slowly, releasing a ring of smoke and looking extrely weary. “You don’t have much ti left, Miss Lilith.”

Lilith didn’t answer. At this point, she had stopped caring about the world beyond. It all felt too far away.

Slowly, she rose to her feet and staggered toward the dragon eggs she had unearthed earlier.

Ignoring the dirt caked on their shells, she reached out, wrapped her arms around one, and gently pressed her cheek against its surface.

She could feel its bone-chilling coldness and the lifeless stillness within. And yet, their voices echoed in her mind—

*”Your Highness, look at ! I’m aweso, right?!”*

*”Your Highness, how about this one? Do you like it?”*

*”Do you need a pet dog, Your Highness? I think I’m qualified.”*

*”I’ll turn anyone who dares to bully Your Highness into at paste—even if it’s the Queen herself! But of course, the Queen would never bully you, hehehe.”*

*”Your Highness, I love you—wait, I can explain, Your Majesty! That wasn’t a confession! I’m not a pedo! ARRGH! HELP , YOUR HIGHNESS!”*

It was all in her head, but they felt real. In fact, they were warr than anything she had felt in both of her lifetis.

They were things she would lock away in the deepest corners of her mory—like rare treasures, shiny diamonds, and the precious sun.

“Goodbye, I love you all,” Lilith whispered as she stroked one of the eggs.

She hugged each dragon egg, repeating the sa words to those who had died nine million years ago. Then, with both hands, she carefully covered them with soil and gently patted the ground.

When she was done, she summoned clean water and began washing the weathered tombstones, her fingertips tracing the familiar nas etched into the stone. With every letter she touched, a mory surfaced. She welcod each one, then tucked it safely into her heart, sealing it with a faint, wistful smile.

“This ti… I won’t forget anyone. You’ll live forever, in my heart. For the last ti, in the na of the Dragon Princess, I swear it.”

In the shadows of the Dragon Monolith, the faint glow of fire flickered one last ti, then faded into a trail of white smoke.

Li Desheng stood silently, watching Lilith’s every action without saying a word until it was ti for him to get an answer.

“So, Miss Lilith… have you made your decision?”

Another long silence followed.

Her back was still facing him. Although he couldn’t see her expression, he could see that she was deep in thought. Just as his patience began to wear thin, her voice finally broke the stillness. It was calm and no longer tinged with sorrow.

“The Dragon Queen is, without a doubt, untrustworthy. She lied to and kept in the dark from beginning to end. She played for a fool, and that is sothing I can never forgive,” she said calmly.

“That’s right, it’s unforgivable!” Li Desheng’s eyes lit up with hope. “If you wish to take revenge on her, it might even be possible once the five deity lords are gathered—”

“No,” Lilith cut him off. “I’m not seeking revenge. I don’t hate her.”

“It’s fine if you don’t hate her. I believe starting a new life is still a better choice for you…” Li Desheng said quickly.

“A new life,” Lilith echoed. “That does sound nice.”

“Exactly! That’s what we at Thoughtless Heaven can offer you—a place where nothing and no one will ever hurt you again. You can live a life of lasting happiness!”

“Happiness, huh?” Lilith repeated the word, as if trying to taste it on her tongue. “It sounds so tempting.”

“It is! And all it takes is a single nod. One yes and happiness will be yours. Your new life will be waiting for you too!” Li Desheng looked at her with unshakable sincerity, his eyes shining with hope, like a soldier who could already see the victory flag waving in the distance.

“So what will it be, Miss Lilith?” he asked again.

Lilith didn’t answer right away. She turned to face him, her gaze calm and unreadable. Under that quiet stare, the confidence Li Desheng had built up began to falter. For reasons he couldn’t explain, he felt a sudden flicker of unease.

“But… What if I’ve already lived that happy life you speak of?” Lilith asked.

“What…?” The excitent on Li Desheng’s face froze. The words he had prepared caught in his throat. He had anticipated a range of possible reactions from Lilith—joyful acceptance, furious refusal, even a complete emotional breakdown.

But this… this wasn’t in any of the outcos he had prepared for.

Lilith’s aning was clear: she had already experienced everything he was offering, or at least, she once had. So what made it appealing now? He had no answer. All he could do was remain silent.

“When I was doing all that, I suddenly rembered sothing,” Lilith said, turning her gaze to the blank white above.

“When I first ca out of my egg, I saw her eyes. They were bluer than the sky, brighter than the stars, and warr than sunlight. They were so pretty… In fact, the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen in this world.”

“And I believe… that anything she saw through those eyes must also be beautiful,” she added.

“What are you trying to say?” Li Desheng asked.

To his credit, he was a seasoned corporate slave who had been tempered by countless last-minute overti shifts. So, despite Lilith’s distraction, he cald himself quickly.

He glanced at his watch, then sighed. “Please give a clear answer, Miss Lilith.”

But deep down, he already knew what her answer would be.

“Yes, everything is a dream. But there’s sothing about dreams you forgot to ntion,” Lilith said.

Li Desheng blinked, caught off guard.

Lilith spread her arms as if trying to embrace the entire world. She spun like a dancer, her skirt flaring beautifully. In that mont, a radiant smile blood across her face.

“A beautiful dream is born from the deepest longing in the drear’s heart. If this laughable but endlessly beautiful world I’ve seen and experienced is what the Dragon Queen, my mother, longed for most in her heart… Then I am… still willing to believe in her, one last ti.”

She stopped spinning and then finally answered his question clearly.

“I’m sorry. I’ll have to refuse the offer.”
