The war was brutal. The swarm had made many breaches in the south and east sides of the Southern Continent.
The Great One monitored the situation as he hid in the north. He found a weakened area to breach the barrier without alerting the enemy. The swarm had far less success in the north so the majority of their enemy forces were not there.
He sneered as he slipped through. His crew was already dead. He was no longer their leader but they were still food to him. They might have regained their alternate mories but he still knew all the ways to kill them.
He was far short of his needs. In fact, even if he was the last being standing in the war, he could not ascend! His original self had cut off that path just as much as Lind Frey had! His anger was all used to fuel his revenge.
He abandoned his artifact craft and consud the energy from it as well. No traces of Fiend Qi were left behind.
He then spent the next decade slowly advancing and learning the layout of the Southern Continent.
There were no recognizable powers left but there were plenty of weak fools who thought they were doing sothing to help the Divine Realm cultivators win the war.
He dared not consu anyone until he was at the point of success. Lind Frey was dangerous not only because of his harmony but because he understood how Fiends worked. He had zero doubts artifacts were positioned to detect any Fiend attack at once.
Even if they were currently embroiled in the bloodbath in the south and east areas, they would have left reserve forces to go after any groups lingering in isolated areas.
What news he got showed he had been right to be cautious. Other Fiend crews had breached the north but only lived long enough to move a few days inward. If any individual Fiends survived, he heard nothing about them.
He had to avoid most towns and cities due to the check-in procedures that would expose his nature instantly. Even the moderate villages were laced with the stench of erald Qi.
Only those fiercely independent small villages foolishly spurned the protection. Lind Frey likely still left sothing but the fools had disposed of it.
It was in those places he procured information and so food. Animals were useful to him still even if there was hardly anything left after being butchered and cooked.
It was enough.
He was patient and as he got closer, he smirked at the deadlock. The weapons Lind Frey had employed before had been unprecedented. They severed the Fiends not just from him but from his original self too.
He had no doubt however, the foolish dragon had not understood what his final attack would do. There was a reason Master Tiers did not fight directly. It would damage the foundation of the world.
Normally, that was dangerous enough by itself, but his original self had always been watching and waiting. Such an opportunity had been his hope of restoring contact. Instead, it beca his nightmare.
He felt so isolated. All the sches and power he had enjoyed for at least 3 epochs had been taken so easily from him. Was that all that awaited him? The original would strip away all he was and keep only what was useful?
For the first ti in his life, he understood what the victims of Fiends felt like but it never occurred to him.
The Great One wore a dark cloak as he traveled until he finally felt sothing drastic occur. The eastern skyline lit up so brightly even he thought the sun was rising early.
It was not Lind Frey, he knew that much but it took a month before he learned what happened.
The thrice cursed flippant monkey had done it. His Master Tier level had achieved a master Mystery layer! What kind of insane luck had that monkey found in the current tiline?!
Apparently, he summoned up an army of golden phantoms that steamrolled the Fiend forces in the east. It was the first major defeat since the war resud.
By his estimation, that was 12 years of a stalemate finally broken. Whether it would turn into montum to end the war, he doubted it. Despite the vast artifact ships sent, there were still more Fiends coming.
Even so, he noted that monkey. He would have to die too before Lind Frey. They all had to die in front of him!
He moved more carefully as he finally closed in on the area he most wished to reach. The Blessed Crimson Range. It felt sickening to him even just looking at it in the distance.
No wonder the lower Fiends had avoided the place. A Divine Intent had transford into a Divine Blessing. Even he would face harsh restraints on his powers there.
Thankfully, he did not have to enter it. He only had to wait. Yet, he had to find a place to wait properly.
He circled the entire range and frowned. He had to concede that Lind Frey was a thorough bastard. The entire boundary was well defended against even Master Tier Fiends.
He could not get any closer nor let a whisper of his Fiend Qi slip out. He was frustrated but he was not thwarted.
"You will co out. You will not stay put and you will need to recover. I will be waiting." He settled into a small carved out of soil and stone. He did nothing to enforce its defenses but oddly, all his external signals vanished.
It was his unique gift. Most Fiends could hide but still left traces in the soil, stone, and other materials the longer they stayed anywhere.
It was not a weakness exactly, but after Lind Frey and his other 6 elental lackeys, beca tenacious about hunting them down. The Great One, however, had long mastered the skill of hunting without ever being detected.
He had once stayed outside a Radiant Tier's mansion for thousands of years without any living thing ever knowing he was there. No other Fiend, living or dead, could pull that off.
He had a na long before he beca the Great One and he openly flaunted his powers.
The Patient Viper had been a horrifying assassin. No one was safe and no one knew how he killed. No defense stopped him and no amount of guards ever made a difference.
He recalled those days with a smile. He often had ended up killing the very clients who hired him as their victims used him to get vengeance.
He had no qualms as everything was used to make him stronger.
He had no need of spirit stones or other common resources. Life was all he had needed and the more the better!
He suddenly wondered what had happened when the Patient Viper had vanished from all realms one day. No one dared take up his title. The fear he had instilled had lingered for billions of years until the Fiends replaced it.
So much has been done in his life and now he had lost it all. He was left only with the desire to kill his enemy's hope. If Lind Frey could fall to deviation, the Great One would consu him!
Then he would take all that was left for himself and begin on the mortal worlds. He would take longer to get to his goal but he no longer cared. All that mattered was breaking his enemies!
Centuries passed and moss began to grow over his body. He was as still as a statue. Several tis, a Harmonic abomination of a dragon race flew by but they were not his targets.
Twice, he saw the Goddess of Illusions and the Heart Healer Divinity go by. They were tempting targets but had armies with them.
He was not suicidal. Besides, those 2 were just as dangerous as Lind Frey to him. Illusions were not normally a weakness but the Goddess could manipulate actual reality to her illusion.
He could not overco that without a single lethal strike. Any guards would give her enough ti.
Heart Healer Divinity, insisting on being known as Qing, was his nesis. Lind Frey was an enemy but only in nature. Qing was soone he had actively avoided absorbing. He would only kill her.
Thus, he did not waste his efforts where they could both hurt him or escape.
Once he started, he would not be able to stop.
Finally, one of them he knew ca. She was dangerous but she was perfect. Her hair and skin were divided between Death and Life. Her twin swords were just as powerful but he did not care about that.
All he cared about was that she was alone and injured. The moss broke apart and he crouched, waiting.
She was just about to reach the safety of the barrier when he struck. His smile was insane with dark joy. She would never be able to stop him!
His hands were going to grasp her hands and his legs would lock around her as he extracted her soul.
"FEY FREY IS MINE!" He scread at the last mont when the eyes calmly turned to him. He sneered as it was too late. He was about to touch her arms when his own disappeared!
He was undeterred as his dantian stirred. Her face blanched but then sothing unexpected happened. Her dark abyssal eye glowed and the Great One was suddenly a Celestial again!
He was at the end of his life and screaming. He was weeping like a small child and wailing about the unfairness of it all. He could live longer if only he was allowed to break through! He knew how but Heaven and Earth prevented it!
[Such a tiny, pathetic creature beca the ultimate threat to us all? I am disappointed.] The mory shattered and the Great One found himself pierced in the dantian and brain. Any other being would be dead but he dispersed into mist before reforming completely whole.
What was she?! She had power she should not have as a Divine Realm!
He was exposed but that was fine. Failure was fine so long as he lived.
"I will be waiting. None of you will ever be safe! The war will give
lots of chances!" He then tore through dinsions. He leapt into the void where even she could not follow.
Her calm face finally frowned as the tear sealed up and he floated in the darkness.
Anger finally shook his body. He had the perfect chance but she sohow knew! He would have to try a new place. Lind Frey would not take chances! Still, his words were right.
The war was full of chances.
