"No matter how upset you are now, she won’t co back to life," Cooper Coldson said with patience, "and you have a child in your belly, think more about the child."
Yolanda Greenwood didn’t speak; she knew she should control her emotions, but the thought of little Maria gone made her truly heartbroken.
Cooper didn’t try to persuade her further and gave her ti to calm down on her own.
Sure enough, after more than half an hour, Yolanda gradually settled down.
"If you want," Cooper spoke again, "we can go see Edmund together."
Edmund was the brother who loved Little Maria the most.
Yolanda looked at Cooper, visibly moved, and nodded, "Okay, okay."
In the following ti, Yolanda hardly spoke, whereas Cooper reminded her to drink water, to get up and walk around, and kept asking if she was hungry.
When the plane landed, she said to Yolanda, "I’ll give serious thought to the adoption, thank you for the suggestion."
Yolanda was montarily stunned; the Cooper she t today seed like a changed person, which surprised her greatly.
When they got off the plane, Yolanda quickly t up with Leah Diaz, and neither Cooper nor Noah Coldson left.
"Are you both heading back to the old house?" Yolanda asked proactively.
Neither of them answered.
Noah spoke first, "What about you?"
"I’m planning to accompany Sister Leah to her house."
Leah imdiately shook her head, "No need, Yolanda, I can go back on my own."
"I promised to go with you," Yolanda insisted and looked toward the two n.
"Alright, then I’ll co with you," Noah said.
"Okay," Yolanda did not refuse. After all, she didn’t know what the situation would be at Leah’s ho, and with Noah there, she felt more at ease.
She turned to Cooper, "And you?"
"My car is outside. I happen to be free, so I’ll drive you there," Cooper said and, without waiting for anyone else’s reaction, strode out.
On the plane, Leah had changed seats and learned quite a bit from Noah.
She knew that Cooper and Yolanda’s trip back to the country was to get their divorce papers, but Cooper didn’t seem like he wanted a divorce now, did he?
She whispered to Yolanda, "Yolanda, is Cooper regretting it? Does he not want to divorce you?"
"No," Yolanda was certain, then signaled Leah not to speculate anymore.
Outside the airport, Richard Reyes saw Cooper finally co out and hurried to greet him, "President Coldson, welco back to the country."
During Cooper’s absence, many matters had been handled directly by Richard.
Richard followed behind Cooper and quickly asked, "President, are you going back to the old house? Or straight to the company?"
Cooper glanced at him with dissatisfaction, "Why so many questions?"
Too many questions?
Richard felt wronged; it had been a while since he had been with Cooper. Had the president now co to prefer a mute?
But soon, he understood that indeed, he had talked too much because Cooper didn’t want to go back to the old house or to the company.
They all got into the car, with Leah directing and sitting in the front passenger seat.
Yolanda sat between Cooper and Noah, creating a sowhat delicate atmosphere in the car.
"Sister Leah," Yolanda initiated the conversation with Leah, "does your family know you’re coming back today?"
"They don’t," Leah said, starting to feel anxious again, her deanor sowhat deflated.
She continued, "After my leave was denied that day, I called ho, and they still wouldn’t admit to not having operated on Little Wood."
"Ah?" Yolanda was sowhat surprised, "Then how did you confirm Little Wood’s situation?"
"I pressured them, made Little Wood say a few words to , but there was no video," Leah scoffed coldly, "They refused to do a video call, there must be sothing fishy."
"As long as Little Wood is temporarily okay," Yolanda sighed silently.
Soon, the car arrived at the bottom of Leah’s apartnt building, and they got out, one after the other.
Yolanda noticed Cooper also got out, which puzzled her, but with Leah’s issues being urgent, she had no interest in asking him why he followed.
She walked ahead with Leah, with Cooper and Noah behind.
However, before reaching the building entrance, Leah suddenly stopped and pulled Yolanda behind a nearby tree.
Her expression was extrely agitated as she teared up watching a man and woman approaching.
Yolanda followed her gaze to see the couple who seed like husband and wife, or lovers, arm in arm with very intimate gestures, chatting and laughing all their way ho.
It was already 8 p.m., the pair was probably coming ho.
Yolanda vaguely guessed sothing and looked back to find Leah standing there, lost and distraught.
Her face full of sympathy, she didn’t know what to say.
"Isn’t that your husband?" Cooper suddenly asked out of nowhere.
Yolanda gave him a speechless glare.
"What? Did I guess wrong?" Cooper expressed his innocence.
"Yes," Leah answered feebly.
"And that woman?" Cooper continued.
Yolanda really wanted to kick him; it was clear to anyone that the woman was a mistress, and Leah probably didn’t recognize her.
"My best friend," Leah said again, her voice dripping with self-mockery.
All three of them were taken aback.
Cooper curled his lip, "People really know how to play these days."
Yolanda couldn’t take it anymore, stepped forward, nudged him in the waist, and warned in a low voice, "Nobody would think you’re mute if you didn’t speak. Isn’t your company busy? Doesn’t your mother call you ho for dinner?"
Noah also gave him a look, "Say less."
Cooper turned his head away, aggrieved.
"Are you still going up tonight?" Yolanda asked Leah softly, "You look tired. Otherwise, tomorrow..."
"The woman won’t disappear by tomorrow," Cooper just couldn’t keep his mouth shut.
"You..." Yolanda was exasperated.
"President Coldson is right," Leah took a deep breath and was the first to head toward the building entrance, "I’ve been running from this for too long."
In fact, hadn’t she had many chances to co back to the country and see for herself? She never took them; she was always running away.
She thought by not coming back, by not knowing the truth, everything could turn around, but the result was only harm to Little Wood.
Leah sniffed, now her only goal was to protect her Little Wood.
The group arrived on the third floor, stopping in front of apartnt 302, where Leah tried the key and opened the door with ease.
Clearly, they hadn’t expected Leah’s return, not even changing the locks.
As the door opened, they caught the man and woman who had just been laughing downstairs now entwined in a kiss, the woman on top of the man on the couch.
Hearing the sound, they both turned to look, and upon seeing it was Leah, the woman let out a scream and scrambled off the man, beginning to fasten her buttons.
"Leah... you... why did you suddenly co back?" The woman stamred.
The man sat up, visibly irritated, "Why didn’t you give a heads-up before coming back?"
