After ending the video call, Yolanda Greenwood still lay heavy-hearted on the desk.

Unlike Lola Gold’s excitent, she didn’t care much to see Cooper Coldson crying his eyes out; she just felt a particular discomfort in her heart.

It was so unbearable she felt like she couldn’t catch her breath.

If none of it had happened, if lissa Greenwood hadn’t ddled, would she and Cooper have had a different ending?

The thought had barely surfaced when Yolanda broke out in a cold sweat. Could it be... had she still loved Cooper?

She clenched her fists and silently gazed at her now swollen belly.

Should she try again, clear up all the misunderstandings, and start everything anew?

As Yolanda pondered, she suddenly caught sight of the plush bear on the desk. Hesitantly, she grabbed it and took a deep sniff.

She noticed sothing off about the fragrance of the bear, and after sniffing it intently, she felt unwell.

Thinking of sothing, she quickly put the bear aside and went back to lie down on the bed.

Could her spotting a few days prior be related to this bear?

Deciding to rest for a while, Yolanda intended to take the bear to the hospital later for a doctor to check.

Of course, she trusted May wouldn’t harm her, but if lissa Greenwood was involved, then anything was possible.

The thought of May made Yolanda’s heart ache.

lissa would never let Cooper know about May’s existence; she might even go so far as to harm May.

The thought nearly suffocated Yolanda; why should a child who had done nothing wrong suffer like this?

Whether to tell Cooper everything and how to go about it, Yolanda needed to think carefully.

On the other hand, lissa Greenwood was furious after bailing out Brooks Parker.

"Are you brain-dead? Why are you so stupid? Where did all your smarts from school go?"

Brooks didn’t respond.

"Brooks, how did you end up like this? If I had known you would turn out this way, why did I even bother back then?"

Brooks opened his mouth helplessly, "I didn’t expect it either, just bad luck."

"Brooks, are you joking? Bad luck? You’re a druggie now, a damn loser. You talk to about luck? Your life is over."

Not hearing Brooks speak, lissa looked at him to continue her rant but was startled by the look in his eyes.

"Are you done?" Brooks’s eyes were bloodshot, "Who do I have to thank for my situation today? lissa, everyone might look down on , step on , but you? You have no right?"

lissa instinctively stepped back, "What do you an? You want to pin everything on ? When we were together, you didn’t have this damn habit."

"That’s right. Back then I could see tomorrow, see hope, I didn’t need false joy," Brooks said through clenched teeth. "But then, you ruined everything. You pushed and the child into an abyss with no light in sight. Tell , what was I supposed to do?"

lissa rebutted with guilt, "Don’t make excuses for yourself here. You’re smart. Couldn’t you have made an honest living for you and May? You chose to degrade yourself."

"Really?" Brooks scoffed. "lissa, if there’s any justice in heaven, it should let you taste what I went through back then — betrayed by the one you loved the most, stripped of your identity, hiding like a rat in the corners of streets, where all your dreams beco unreachable..."

"lissa, one day, you’ll know what that feels like."

For so reason, chills ran down lissa’s spine when she heard those words. She cursed with a dark expression, "Don’t you curse ."

Brooks humd. This was never a curse.

"At least I’m successfully marrying Cooper and will share in the spoils," lissa said, regaining confidence. "You should hope for my good."

She really couldn’t understand, "Brooks, you just did so drugs. Why were you arrested?"

"I..." Brooks touched his nose awkwardly, "I was going to stock up."

"What?" lissa’s eyes widened, "What do you an ’stock up’?"

"You gave money, right? I took out four million, trying to bring in so goods. For personal use and to sell as well."

Brooks was being wildly ambitious, "I promise, you and May will lead good lives."

"You’re insane," lissa confird, more sure than ever that drugs rot the brain and make people stupid.

But what was done, was done, and she had scolded enough, now she just grunted. "Your luck is indeed bad, how did you get caught?"

Brooks cursed in Chinese, looking very indignant, "You know what’s the most infuriating part?"

lissa looked on.

"The bastards who caught ... damn it, were from our side."

"Our side?" lissa was puzzled.

"The damn black hair and yellow skin." Brooks shook his head, "I an, how could these white devils be so dumb to catch us? I didn’t expect to be tripped up by our own kind."

"Chinese?" lissa imdiately beca more alert. "Did you see their faces?"

"How could I?" Brooks was exasperated, "Don’t you know how dangerous drug enforcent cops are in China? How many die each year? Who would dare show their face doing this?"

"True enough," lissa nodded in agreent, still sensing too much of a coincidence.

Finally, she warned Brooks, "Don’t ss around recently. Less snorting is better for your brain. 500,000 should last you for a while. We’ll talk later."

Brooks didn’t argue; his mind was a ss after the past day and night. Now, he only wanted to go ho and sleep.

Back at the apartnt, Yolanda had rested enough and got up.

She grabbed the bear, planning to go to the nearby hospital, but as she left, she ran into Brooks in the building’s lobby.

"Broo..." Yolanda instinctively wanted to greet him, but then rembered he didn’t know she recognized him.

She forced a smile, but her look at Brooks was entirely different now.

"Just got back?" She quickly spoke, her heart grieving, unable to imagine the man before her was Brooks.

"Yeah," Brooks nodded, "Had so urgent matters last night. Are you heading to work?"

Yolanda shook her head, "Going for a check-up at the hospital."

"Okay." Brooks gave Yolanda another puzzled glance before going upstairs.

Yolanda stood there for a while, sighing softly before she walked away.

During school, she had interacted with Brooks, but the Brooks of today was a world away from the past, making him unrecognizable to her.

She could imagine that Brooks must have gone through many inhuman experiences.

After going upstairs, Brooks paused at his own door, recalling Yolanda’s reaction. He had a bad feeling.

Hesitating for a while, he sent a ssage to lissa.

[Yolanda seems to have recognized .]
