Chapter 62: Third Raid: Traitor
Swooosh!
The hunter only felt a sharp wind blowing his back.
A sticky feeling brushed past his shoulders but his body never landed.
The darkness quickly engulfed his body.
The flashlight flickered— and the light snapped.
Thud.
Crack.
A dull noise echoed and the hunters who were slashing the webs manually subconsciously looked around.
Dark.
There’s not a single light in sight.
"What? Where is that flashy guy?" The fiery hunter pulled his leg away from the web and stumbled forward when—
The world flipped.
"Hah!"
The fiery man subconsciously stretched his arms towards the sticky web and clawed it hard.
Skkrrrk.
The web stretched and the man’s body dipped.
"H-hah! Hah!"
The man’s legs fluttered around, trying to step into a solid ground—
His feet touched nothing.
Sway.
His body swayed, hanging with just a thread.
The man’s heart skipped a beat.
His mind went blank.
What...the hell?
Another hunter, a short guy, broke free from the web and stepped forward—
His body spun around and a scream tore through the air.
"Ahhhh!!"
His body plumted fast before it hit sothing.
Tak!
A sticky feeling wrapped around the short hunter’s body, his eyes flickering as he looked up—
The pale blue light from the glowing arc shone upon the fiery guy’s figure.
"H-huh?"
His breath hitched.
His ears rang, the sound of legs skittering faded into the background.
Why is that guy...hanging like that?
Tak. Tak. Tak.
Isn’t that the cave floor with stalagmites—
"Kiiik! Kiik!"
The shrieking sound got louder, but the man’s head was fuzzy, a numb feeling swept all over his body.
He stiffly turned his head around and looked down.
Shaaa....
Behind the thick web—
An endless darkness.
Swish!
A sharp leg cut through the air and the sound of flesh tearing echoed.
Stab!
The man’s eyes went blank.
A stabbing pain tore through his chest and the man’s mouth opened.
A blue light swept over the wounds and the wounds quickly closed, but—
Chew. Chew. Chew.
Blood splattered everywhere. The blue light dimd and the man’s mouth hung open.
Up there, the fiery hunter swinging in the air tried to pull his body up, his fingers went numb.
"Fck! Hey! A-anyone! Pull
up!"
His arms trembled, but the hunters were silent.
"Hey?? Anyone— "
The next second, the hunters’ bodies collectively fell down.
Screams tore through the air.
"Ahhh! Fck! Fck!"
Soone chanted and a rock spear appeared out of thin air, stabbing right above.
Clack!
Another person shot a web from his wrist and the web stuck above, hanging him like the fiery man.
"Shit!"
A hunter kicked the ground before he fell and leapt towards the sharp stalagmites like a frog.
Grab!
He hugged the stalagmites but his body still dipped, his head upside down.
"Ah!"
"Help!"
Screams echoed everywhere and the fiery guy felt the numbness spreading to his arms.
He wanted to use a skill, but—
They were all for attacks.
None could pull him up.
A hunter with a rock-based skill stabbed his own feet with a sharp rock and impaled them on the ceiling, his body hung upside down like a bat.
Blood trickled down and fell, landing onto the huge web.
"Kiiik!"
Sothing skittered, scrambling upon the blood.
The things slowly lifted their heads—
Their green eyes flashed in the dark.
Shudder.
The rock-based hunter felt a chill down his spine as he grew another rock around his wrist, impaling it to the "ground" beneath his feet.
Only then did his hanging heart drop, but his mind was still dizzy, blood rushing to his head.
"W-what..."
Is going on?
Why is he upside down?
No.
Everyone is.
The frog-like guy hugging the stalagmites— no, stalactites shouted, his voice trembling.
"Fck! Fck! W-we are on the ceiling?"
The other surviving hunters gritted their teeth, their breath quickening.
Yes. Why are they on the ceiling?
"Huff. Huff. I-I can’t hold on."
The fiery guy looked down—
It was dark.
Tak. Tak. Tak.
But he could hear the sound of rattling.
There’s a ground down there.
The fiery guy swayed, his eyes squinting as he positioned himself above the thick web below.
Now!
Swish!
The fiery guy let go of the web and his body plumted, instantly hitting the thick web.
Sway.
"Ugh! Fuck!" The fiery guy quickly stood up, but his body moved a beat late.
He looked around alertly, the sound of rattling was so close to his ears.
A sharp wind suddenly blew behind and a leg stabbed.
Swish!
"Ha!" The fiery guy shouted and countless thorns shot out of his body, like gatling guns.
Ratattaa!
"Kiikkk!"
The spiders swiftly scattered— and closed in again.
Up there, the surviving hunters tried to move on the ceiling, heading to the glowing arc, but—
Tak. Tak. Tak.
The familiar skittering noise sounded.
The hunters’ hearts hung high.
The sticky webs on the ceiling trembled, a faint shriek sounded from every corner.
"Kiik! Kiik!"
Spiders.
An armored man with an iron helt hanging on a stalactite gritted his teeth.
His heavy armour slowly dragged him down.
No! He needed a stronger hold—
A thin rope-like web slid down, swaying not far from him.
The man’s eyes lit up.
He quickly grabbed the web rope and was about to hug it when—
Tug.
His whole body yanked up.
"Ahhhh— "
In an instant, the man’s body slamd onto the hard ceiling, but a blue barrier quickly appeared around his body.
Bang!
Before the man could sigh in relief—
Thick fangs bite onto the barrier.
Crack!
"Kiik!"
Spiders crowded around, fangs drilling the barrier.
Crack. Crack.
The barrier slowly dimd.
"Ah— no— "
Fangs stabbed into the armour.
Iron dented.
Blood spurted out.
Below, the fiery guy was still fighting, the sound of his fights attracted more and more spiders.
Even the spiders on the ceiling skittered down, joining the group.
The other hunters fell silent, eyes flickering on the almost empty surroundings.
A strange thought ca into mind.
If soone stayed...
No. No.
"Kiiik!"
More and more spiders crawled from the darkness.
The rock-based hunter’s head felt even dizzier.
If he hung upside down like this—
Sooner or later, he will die.
A strong desire erupted in the man’s heart.
I-I...
The rock-based hunter gritted his teeth and his palm glowed.
A sharp rock appeared and he shot it—
Towards the frog-like guy.
Swish!
The frog-like guy felt the strong wind coming at him.
He wanted to leap with a skill, but it was too late.
Bang!
The rock hit his back hard and his arms around the stalactites loosened.
In that instant, the thin threads hanging around him suddenly moved.
Swish!
"A-ah!"
The frog-like guy looked forward.
The rock guy’s palm glowed.
The rock floated back to his hands.
"Y-you..."
The frog guy’s eyes widened.
He looked at the rock-based guy in disbelief.
"Tra...itor."
White webs quickly engulfed his vision, his body turning into a cocoon.
"Kiikkk!"
The remaining spiders crawled towards the cocoon, dragging it away.
The rock-based guy trembled.
Tears slid down his face but his eyes sharpened.
He...can’t die here!
New rocks appeared on the ceiling and he quickly moved, getting closer to the glowing arc.
The next second—
He threw his body into the glowing arc.
The other hunters saw the man’s figure disappearing into the glowing arc.
The word "traitor" echoed in their mind.
Everyone’s hearts hung high.
The sounds of chewing and the fiery guy’s desperate screams drifted in the wind.
Everyone slowly lowered their gazes, hiding the dark light in their eyes.
Soone escaped.
Silence spread among the hunters.
The next second—
The four hunters moved in unison.
Swish! Swish! Swish!
Skills flew everywhere—
But not towards the spiders.
Bang!
