Chapter 61: Third Raid: Hidden chanism
The Grindhall City hunters walked in and soone in the team imdiately turned on a special flashlight.
The bright light illuminated the dungeon entrance.
"Yooo, a crystal flashlight! We got a rich boy here~ "
The hunters whistled and the young man holding the crystal flashlight laughed boisterously.
"Heh, stop talking and move!"
"Okay, okay~ "
The hunters walked further one by one and the slis waiting at the entrance imdiately shot out.
Glurg!
Sizzle! Sizzle!
Blue shadows pounced at the hunters but they didn’t even blink.
Slash!
Soone’s sword cut the sli into two.
Another flicked his fingers and rocks shot out, shattering the sli’s core.
The black viscous liquid splashed onto a hunter, but the armor on his body only turned slightly black with no signs of burn.
"Ugh. It’s a sli dungeon."
The hunters mumbled in disappointnt as they lightly killed every single sli they saw.
[ -20 slis]
[ -30 slis]
In less than ten minutes, the number of slis decreased drastically.
Stabbing pain prickled Lucien’s heart and his tail slapped the floor irritably.
"Slis. Stay back."
Don’t be cannon fodder.
Glurg!
The slis quickly retreated, their speed so fast that the hunters had just stretched their swords—
And their sword t the empty air.
Swoosh.
...?
"The hell? They ran away?"
The hunters clutched their swords and looked around, but it was as if the entire sli migrated out.
There’s not a single one in sight!
"Just let them go. They’re small shrimps, anyway."
"C’mon, find the dungeon boss and finish this quickly."
The group laughed at each other as they walked briskly, the passage around them narrowed and they fell into one straight line.
As they walked further, they t their first dead end and the man holding the flashlight shouted,
"Turn around! There’s no path here!"
The group trotted away, but again, they t a dead end.
A question mark floated above everyone’s heads.
"A maze? In an F-rank dungeon?"
"Anyone got a mapping skill?"
One of the hunters stepped up, used his simple mapping skill and the group easily avoided several dead ends.
"Hahaha. This is too easy." The hunters laughed, playing and teasing each other but as they walked deeper and deeper...
Silence.
Only the sounds of their footsteps echoed.
"...weird."
Too silent.
The deathly silence hung heavily, prickling at their nerves.
"What’s going on? Where are the slis?"
"Hey! Co out!"
Clang! Clang!
The hunters slashed at the walls and rocks, hitting and stabbing at every nook.
Swish. Swish.
The slis moved without a sound, avoiding the hunters’ weapons.
The weapons only stabbed the empty air.
"Argh! What the hell! Does anyone have a search skill or sothing? One to detect living beings."
"Dude, if I had such a skill, I wouldn’t be at Grindhall City, hahahah."
"Fck. These slis are too slippery!"
"Forget it. Don’t waste our ti."
The hunters kicked the ground in frustration as they slowly walked away.
Behind them, the figure of the slis lood at every corner, their eyes glowing in the dark.
The group walked and walked before they saw a blue light ahead, the narrow passage widened.
"Hey! We are out— "
Shaaa...
A huge, deep crater appeared in front of the hunters.
The ground wet.
Traces of water still flowed out sowhere.
"What the hell? Do sli dungeons have a big crater like this?"
Stare.
Countless gazes fell on the group, prickling their skins.
"Who’s there?!"
The hunter pointed his expensive special flashlights at the deep crater but he didn’t even see anything.
Only traces of char and so black, viscous liquid.
An uneasy atmosphere swept over the hunters.
The other hunters walked around, yet—
They still didn’t find even a single shadow of the slis.
Stare.
In places they didn’t see, six huge slis plastered themselves close to the ceiling.
Countless slis dug the soil and hid inside.
Their eyes never left the hunters, unmoving.
The hunters rubbed their arms uncomfortably.
"Fck! Are those slis hiding??"
But why?
Monsters— never hide.
Unless...
"Did the dungeon boss evolve or sothing?"
"Hahaha, f-funny— that’s not funny! Don’t jinx it!"
"Guys, let’s go! Walk faster!"
The hunter at the forefront hurriedly walked down the crater and once he found no danger, he continued to walk forward, his flashlight illuminating a straight path ahead.
"Hey, hey, wait for us! Don’t hog the boss monster all for yourself!"
The others threw away their unease and trotted behind the man with the flashlight, their figure quickly crossing the crater.
As they walked further, the crater started to slope down.
The hunters were like small seeds at the center.
"Huh. Why is this crate so deep?"
So parts of the crater looked darker than the other part— it was red.
The sll of burnt fire beca stronger.
The sickening sll of blood slowly mixed with the burnt sll and they all pinched their noses, their hearts hung high.
Sothing is wrong.
The sll of blood...is too strong.
Tak.
Soone’s feet bumped into sothing and he subconsciously shouted,
"Hey! Flashlight here— "
The mont the flashlight illuminated the ground—
The hunter stiffened. He staggered a few steps back, his face pale.
The others stopped walking and looked towards the illuminated ground and—
They all retreated, veins popped up at the back of their hands.
"Ugh!" The hunter holding the flashlight covered his mouth and gagged.
Under the white light—
White, cracked bones splashed red cluttered.
Pink flesh shreds scattered around.
Flies buzzed, white maggots squird.
At the center of the pile were— skulls.
Human skulls.
Not one, not two—
A total of five.
Piled neatly, as if...
Soone deliberately made it that way.
"What the hell!"
A fiery hunter kicked the pile of skulls and the skulls clattered to the ground, rolling for several ters before stopping right in front of another hunter’s feet.
"Fck! Why did you kick it to ??"
The hunter kicked the skull away, his back drenched in sweat.
Fck. Fck. Fck.
The hunters turned around, all pretending not to see the skulls as they walked faster and faster, their figures turned into a blur.
As they stepped into the deepest part of the crater, a speck of blue light appeared ahead, almost blocked by the crater’s height.
"Hey! That glow— the boss chamber is near!"
The hunters stabbed their weapons to the crater wall, quickly climbing up as if ghosts chased behind them.
As they climbed up, the six huge slis at the ceiling slowly slid down, their eyes squinting into a curve.
Wooonggg.
The hunters arrived in front of the glowing blue arc and the one with the flashlight was the first to step in, followed by the rest.
The mont the flashlight hunter passed through the blue arc, his feet landed on a dark, ragged ground.
Sticky.
"Huh?"
The flashlight turned to the ground and fine, white webs stuck to his feet.
The others ca out of the glowing arc and they too, stepped onto the white, sticky webs on the ragged ground.
"Webs?"
Soone murmured,
"Is this a spider dungeon?"
"Jackpot! Our new farm!"
The flashlight guy paused.
But isn’t this...a sli dungeon?
The man turned the flashlight ahead and sharp stalagmites a ter tall grew from the cave floor, blocking the sight ahead.
Another hunter whistled while kicking the ground.
"Hey, those rocks might be good loot!"
Tak.
A loose pebble rolled and drifted upwards.
? Did he see it wrong?
The man rubbed his eyes as he pointed the flashlight upwards.
Shaaa....
A huge, tangled web hung in the air, wrapping sothing inside.
The flashlight guy tilted the flashlight and shone it next to the webs.
Sway.
A massive, thin web spread across.
Rattle. Rattle.
Blurry shadows crawled on the web, scurrying away.
Beyond the web, the flashlight continued to shine, but even as the light climbed several ters high—
It still couldn’t illuminate the darkness.
Why is the ceiling so high?
Ringgg.
The flashlight guy’s ears rang slightly.
Swish.
The wind blew— his clothes lifted up and his hair rose.
"Ah! Fck!"
The man patted his hair down and his fingers slipped away, the flashlight shifted.
In the dark, his hair...stood up again.
Clang! Clang!
The other hunters had already swung their swords, stabbing the webs several tis.
"Damn it. The web is annoying."
Their faces turned slightly red, their breaths quickening.
"Hmph. That’s slow."
Instead of cutting the webs, the flashlight hunter took out a special lighter and lit it up.
Burn.
The fire quickly engulfed the webs under his feet.
Sparks floated, slowly rising into the air.
The man turned his head towards the other hunters, a smug smile appeared on his face as he took a step forward.
"Hehehe, everyone! I’m going first— "
The man’s feet didn’t touch the ground.
A sense of weightlessness took over.
Spin.
His vision spun around.
Huh...?
The flashlight pointed upwards and the light shone upon the hunters.
The man’s eyes widened.
That’s weird.
Why are you guys...
Upside down?
