Chapter 58: Second Raid: Massacre
The hunters were stunned, legs frozen stiff.
The threads quickly wrapped around them but Windsor, the blonde guy, quickly reacted.
[Wind Blades]
Swish! Swish! Swish!
Countless crescent-shaped wind cuts through the air, snapping the tough web in an instant.
Snap. Snap. Snap.
Windsor’s face flushed red and white, his hands still shooting wind blades, his feet moved on the threads freely, as agile as a monkey.
But more and more threads ca down.
"Guild leader! Help!"
Soron snapped out of his shock and the fire torch in his sword burned brighter, twisting, forming sothing entirely new.
Crackle!
[Fire Sword]
"Co here!" Soron slashed the threads hanging in the air with his fire and the threads charred black, turning into dust.
"Kiik!"
The spiders at the end of those threads quickly let go of the threads, their bodies clinging to other threads on the ceiling.
The heat from Soron’s fire pushed the spiders back, giving everyone a chance to breathe.
But Lucien, who was watching with one hand on his chin, snapped his fingers.
"Don’t be impatient..."
"There is more to co."
Tak. Tak. Tak.
Gi Yu felt a strong resonance from the other side of the web under his feet.
Left, right, behind...
The tremor ca...everywhere.
"N-not good!"
"Kiiik!"
Giant spiders burst out of the darkness.
Their long legs skittered fast on the thread, saliva dripping down their mouth.
One. Three. Five.
Ten.
Ten giant spiders surrounded the hunters— and pounced on them.
"Kiiik!"
Soron’s face instantly changed.
"Ugh!" He swung his fire sword towards a nearby spider and the spider’s legs burned.
"Kiiik!"
The spider quickly retreated— and a new spider replaced it.
W-what...?
How could—
Soron’s eyes trembled.
He was a beat too slow and the spider’s fangs were already right in front of him.
"Guild leader!" Rina shouted in horror, her fingers danced and a virtual chain appeared out of thin air.
[Chain Whip]
The virtual chain turned into thin chain whips, instantly whipping at the spider in front of Soron.
Slash!
"Kiikkk!"
The spider staggered.
Its body almost fell off the web but it turned around, slowly crawling beneath the web instead.
The darkness hid its whereabouts.
"S-soone!"
Windsor’s voice cracked as his wind blades slowly decreased.
Swish! Swish!
Threads still shot down from above, aiming at the other hunters.
"T-there are too many!"
"Windsor! Hold on!"
Vela, the vine girl gritted her teeth.
A seed materialised out of thin air and she dropped it to the web below.
[Rapid Growth]
The seed didn’t budge.
It didn’t germinate.
!
There’s no soil or solid ground!
In that split second of looking down, a thread shot down at Vela’s nape.
Swish!
Soron’s eyes trembled, his sword cut through the thread as fast as lightning.
"Vela!"
Soron’s back was exposed.
The spider’s front leg glinted.
It ca stabbing down.
Stab!
Ti slowed down.
Soron turned his head around, his sword burning—
But the fire didn’t touch the spider’s legs.
"So...ron..."
Vela’s voice echoed, everything around slowed down.
Just when the leg was an inch away from piercing through Soron’s back—
[Wind Boost]
Small winds appeared under Windsor’s feet and he bolted towards Soron, the wind slapping everyone’s face.
"G-guild— leader— "
Windsor grabbed Soron and yanked him backwards.
But the spider’s pointy leg grazed his arm instead.
Sting.
A line of red blood tore through Windsor’s skin and his arm went numb.
Windsor gritted his teeth.
A weak wind blade pushed the spider away.
Swish.
Windsor and Soron staggered back.
Vela hugged Soron’s body and Rina’s chain wound around Windsor’s waist.
"Windsor! You okay??"
The wind blade still went around slashing threads shooting down.
As the number of wind blades decreased, so did the threads.
"Uh..."
Windsor felt his arms and feet heavy.
His mouth opened, but his voice ca a beat late.
"I..."
Sothing is wrong.
Windsor’s heart skipped a beat.
Swish.
A white thread appeared in front of Windsor.
The sa kind he cut all this ti.
"Wind— sor— "
Rina’s chain rattled, pulling Windsor’s back, but—
Windsor’s legs moved a step late.
A sticky sensation stuck onto his mouth and the thread strapped his neck.
The next second—
Windsor’s feet left the ground.
His body slowly hung in the air.
"Windsor!!"
Crackle!
Soron’s fire sword cut through the thread above Windsor’s head.
Snap!
The thread burned, but— Windsor’s feet didn’t land on the web.
Ah...
"N-noooo!"
Rina gripped the chain around Windsor’s body tightly and pulled him back, but...
She was dragged forward instead.
"Ugh!"
Rina’s body fell to the web, the sticky feeling quickly bound her.
"Windsor! Co up!"
Rina’s arms bulged, veins popped up.
Rattle.
The chain on Windsor’s waist shook.
His body hung in the darkness, his mouth opened and closed.
Ve...nom...
It was too late.
Rina felt her whole body going numb.
Tak. Tak. Tak.
The sound of the spiders’ legs tapping the web echoed in her ears.
"Kiiik!"
More and more giant spiders crawled along the web, surrounding the others.
"Rina! Windsor!"
Ryo and Gu Yi grabbed Rina’s body, trying to pull her back.
Their hands touched the web—
And their arms slowly numbed.
"U-ugh..."
Rina felt her body being dragged bit by bit.
Windsor’s body down there descended inch by inch.
"Ri...na..."
Windsor’s feeble voice echoed.
He couldn’t feel half of his body.
No energy.
Nothing ca out.
Rina...
"Let...go."
You...go up.
Grrkkk.
Rina’s front body hung out of the web.
He dragged her down.
Swish.
The wind blew from below, whipping her face.
She couldn’t see Windsor.
Rattle.
The chains rattled.
"Hu...hu..."
Windsor’s faint breathing ca from below.
But...
Slash! Slash!
Soron’s sword slashed the spiders and webs.
Crackle.
His fire slowly dimd.
"Ugh!! C’mon!!"
Vela swung her seed to the wall, but— the seed plumted without even touching the rock.
From the corner of her eyes, Rina saw the spiders...
Soron couldn’t finish them all.
Sensing the numbness slowly spreading throughout her body and Windsor’s weak breathing—
Rina’s breath hitched for a split second.
This...is the only way.
Rina murmured,
[Multi-chain Lasso]
The energy in Rina’s body instantly hit rock bottom and her arms around Windsor’s chain loosened.
But the chain wound around her body instead.
Then—
Swish! Swish! Swish!
Ten— twenty chains appeared out of thin air, shooting straight at all the spiders on the web.
"Kiiik!"
The spiders tried to dodge but the chains moved as if they had eyes.
They quickly rattled around the spider, binding them tightly.
Before Soron could sigh in relief and kill the spiders—
Rina’s body fell off the web.
Dragging all the spiders with her.
"Rina!!!"
Gu Yi and Ryo tried to grab Rina’s legs, but she shook her head stiffly.
"Survive."
A relieved smile flashed on Rina’s face before the darkness swallowed her.
Along with the spiders on the web.
"Kiikkkkk— "
The sharp shriek echoed until a heavy dull sound.
Thud.
Silence.
Crackle.
Soron’s fire went out.
Darkness swept over.
Thump.
The ground shook.
Only the faint tremor of the web remained.
