Chapter 57: Second Raid: Modified Spider Dungeon

A familiar damp sll wafted.

Thump.

A dull vibration ca from below, the solid ground shook slightly.

Everyone’s body stiffened, their minds buzzing.

The darkness, the sll, the strange feeling crawling all over their skins...

It’s another dungeon.

"W-we...we are not out??"

The hunters plopped down, their faces pale.

At the sa ti, a burst of energy poured into Lucien’s body, much, much more than before, filling his belly quickly and drowning him in an even greater warmth.

[ 12.5%]

[ 12.5%]

[Main dungeon energy reserve: 70%]

Ah...stronger hunters gave more energy.

70%...the sli dungeon would get a part.

Should he stop?

—Not...enough...

Lucien felt a dense force crawling down his spine, about to burst out of his tailbone.

A burst of pain tore through and the fullness in his stomach disappeared.

A deep, primal hunger drilled in.

Lucien’s inner soul slowly curled up, trembling.

Outside, his four eyes flickered. Saliva slid down his lips.

Right.

Dear guests—

Why leave now?

He had prepared a new ga...

And his other babies haven’t played yet.

A heavy silence hung in the air.

No one moved, no one spoke.

Only their rapid breathing and pounding hearts remained.

Soron clenched his fists, took a deep breath and let go of the fire in his chest.

The fire rapidly flowed throughout his body and appeared on his feet.

[Fire Torch]

Burst.

A small fire appeared on Soron’s sword and the red light licked the wall—

Jagged. Uneven.

Soron moved the fire to illuminate the ground and saw a rough, rocky ground...

But a few steps ahead— nothing.

The darkness swallowed the light.

Thump.

The dull sound beyond the darkness hit everyone’s hearts, snapping them awake.

"Everyone, get up."

Soron stood at the forefront, his back straight.

The hunters punched their trembling legs and slowly stood up, helping each other.

"G-guild leader..." The youngest in the team, a blonde boy, whispered, his voice shaking.

"Gu Yi. Co here." The guild leader patted the blonde boy’s head and called out to the blindfolded young man.

Gu Yi crept closer to Soron and Soron’s fire slowly burned, illuminating his red hair.

"Detects any movent."

Gu Yi nodded. He murmured and an invisible wave spread from his feet, traveling with winding, straight lines.

[Resonance Detection]

Wong. Wong.

Nothing.

There’s no movent on the other side.

"Safe." Gu Yi nodded and Soron motioned at the people behind to co.

"yla behind . Everyone else, co one by one."

As soon as the hunters lined up, Gu Yi’s resonance detection sensed their movents and he nodded.

Good. His skill is working.

In places he didn’t see...

Tak. Tak.

Hairy legs skittered on winding webs— leading up.

"Ryo, mist— " Soron looked at Ryo but the white-haired man shook his head.

"Cooldown."

"Okay, then. let’s go. Be careful." Soron warned.

The group slowly walked forward.

Tap.

The hunters felt a strange, elastic feeling under their feet.

Their bodies swayed slightly.

Ssshhh.

A familiar burning noise sounded under Soron’s feet and he aid his fire at the ground—

White.

Long, thin...tough.

"A...thread...?"

The thread was quickly charred black and Soron’s left feet stepped into nothing.

"Ugh!"

Soron’s body slipped to the left, his fire flickering.

"Guild leader!"

yla and Gu Yi grabbed Soron’s arm, trying to pull him up.

Swish.

A thin, white shadow shot down, stopping right in front of the eyeglasses guy at the very back.

Derek only felt a gust of wind when—

Swish!

A sticky sensation suddenly stuck to his mouth.

Derek’s eyes widened.

Guild lea—

Swish!

He felt a brief weightlessness.

Legs flailing around, and—

Silence.

Ryo in front of Derek felt a subtle wind blowing his back.

He was about to turn his head around when yla shouted ahead.

"Guild leader!"

Gu Yi and yla pulled Soron up and Soron quickly stepped forward before another thread under his feet charred.

"I’m okay!" Soron’s fire stabilized.

"Is everyone okay?"

Soron swept his sword to the back, silently counting.

yla, Guno, Windsor...

Soron counted until the person at the very back, Ryo—

Wait.

An ominous premonition crept up.

"Where’s...Derek?"

The fire slightly illuminated the place where Derek was...

Gone.

There’s nothing.

Soron slowly moved to the back, yla followed behind.

He slashed the air with his fire and the light slowly illuminated a part of the ceiling.

Sway.

Pale, white threads clumped, forming a hanging cylinder—

A cocoon.

Ryo’s pupils on the cocoon shook. His face pale.

"I-I didn’t know! I-I only felt a gust of wind back then, like— "

This.

A faint breeze blew over and a white thread shot down.

Swish!

yla only felt a blur of white and sothing stuck onto her mouth tightly, quickly winding around her neck.

Her feet left the ground and her body was yanked up.

"Mmph!"

"yla!" Soron quickly swung his sword and the fire burned the white thread, snapping it.

Snap!

yla’s body descended again and Soron was about to catch her when...

Swish!

A shadow swooped down.

Crack.

Soron only saw a burst of black shadow, a flash of curved fangs and then—

yla’s white figure disappeared.

"Ahhh— "

yla’s faint scream sounded above...and silence fell.

Everyone stiffened.

Eyes fixed on the empty space next to Soron.

"y...la?"

Soron’s hand holding the burning sword trembled.

He slowly raised his sword up, higher...

Creak...

His neck stiffly looked up.

Tak. Tak.

A warm liquid dripped into Soron’s face.

The dim light crawled upwards.

Sway.

A pair of legs swayed, stiff.

Tak. Tak.

Red liquid slid down the white clothes.

A patch above the waist completely turned red.

The light climbed. More red patches appeared.

The chest.

The...

Head.

Snap.

Pairs of green eyes rolled down.

Staring straight at Soron.

"Ugh!"

Soron stumbled.

The fire in his sword blared for a split second, the light landing on the ceiling.

Empty.

yla’s body was gone.

Where—

Flicker.

The empty space lit up.

Countless green pupils stared down, unblinking.

A chill went up everyone’s eyes.

Silence fell for a split second until a boyish scream tore through.

"M-monsters!!"

"W-windsor! Back down!!" Guno the gunner roared, his two guns aid at the ceiling.

[Double Shot]

Bang! Bang!

Two energy bullets cut through the air, landing right on the green eyes above yla.

Stab!

Energy bullets dug deep, swirling, tearing the flesh.

Splat.

Green blood spurt out.

"Kiikkk!"

Two huge shadows plumted.

Swish!

One body fell onto the darkness.

The other one landed on the web, limping.

"Kii— kikk!"

The shadow’s legs trembled.

The fire on the sword fully illuminated the figure.

Eight hairy legs.

Eight green eyes.

Curved down fangs—

Spider.

"Argh!"

Soron instantly swung his sword, the fire burned, the blade about to stab it when...

The shadow kicked the thread, its trembling legs pounced at Guno.

Swish!

"Kiik!!"

Sharp fangs stabbed at Guno’s neck.

Guno’s eyes widened.

His body was pushed to the darkness.

"Gunooo— "

Guno’s body disappeared.

Bang!

A deafening gunshot tore through the cave.

Crack!

Sothing wet snapped with it.

Splat!

Red mixed with green sprayed into the air.

Swooooosh—

Thud.

A dull thud echoed from below.

Thump.

A heavier sound drifted from below—

Silence.

Everyone’s body froze for a mont and the next second—

Swish! Swish! Swish!

Countless white threads rained down.
