Chapter 49: First Raid: Sli Maze
Grrkrkk...
The ground shook and the wall trembled.
Tak!
A sharp pebble fell from the ceiling, scratching the burly guy’s face.
"Ugh!"
The burly guy looked up and his face instantly changed.
"Move! Move! The entrance is collapsing!"
The burly guy grabbed the young master’s hand and dragged him forward.
"Ah! I want to go ho!" The ex tenant wailed, stumbling as he was pulled deeper into the cave.
Tak! Tak! Tak!
More and more rocks fell from the ceiling and the slis retreated behind the wall.
"Let’s go, let’s go!"
The archer put back his bow to his back and kicked the ground hard, bolting forward like an arrow.
The other two imdiately ran, their feet staggering.
"Damn it. I have never seen a dungeon entrance collapse before!"
The ball of light moved with the group and the area behind them was quickly swallowed back by the darkness.
In the place they couldn’t see, the ceiling and the wall slowly stopped shaking.
There were no signs of the cave collapsing.
The slis lurked in the dark, swiftly following the hunters.
Grrkkk.
The hunters left the starting point yet it was as if the tremor followed them.
Tiny rocks continued to fall above their heads, the ground shook so much the hunters almost tripped.
The young master, already tired from running, quickly fell behind the burly guy, his face red.
"Ah! When will the shaking stop? The cave won’t completely collapse, right??"
Behind him, the other three hunters ran side by side, but their arms soon brushed past the cave’s wall, the rough texture scratching their shoulders.
The three hunters subconsciously ran in one straight line, one person at a ti.
The woman fell to the end of the line.
The burly guy at the front felt a chill touching his arms and when he turned his head around—
The wall was only inches away from his body.
Since when did the wall get so close?
Did the path beco narrower?
The burly guy gripped his weapons tightly and was about to continue forward when...
Shinggg....
The light orb illuminated the path ahead.
But what laid in front...was a wall.
Sizzle.
Blue liquid slid down the wall, making a sizzling noise.
The burly guy’s feet halted and the young master behind him crashed into his back head-on.
"Ouch! What the hell! Why did you stop??"
The young master pinched his red nose and was about to throw a tantrum when the burly guy suddenly turned around, his face stern.
"It’s a dead end. Turn around."
"A dead end??" The young master grumbled and didn’t turn around when a streak of blue flashed behind him.
"Watch out!" The burly guy raised his sword and the next second—
Swish!
Sizzle.
A corrosive liquid splashed onto the shield, turning the silver shield black.
The slis are back!
"Damn it! Young master, just move!"
The burly guy nudged the young master and the young man quickly turned around, running as if his butt was on fire.
"Ahhh! Slis!"
The archer and the spearman quickly pointed their weapons at the slis but their arms and legs bumped into the wall.
"Captain! It’s too narrow! Let’s just use skills!" The spearman shouted and the burly man scolded harshly,
"Are you an idiot??" The burly man snapped, "We don’t have many skills— save them for later!"
Swish! Swish! Swish!
More and more slis crowded around the wall, climbing up and down as agile as monkeys.
The hunters had no choice but to keep running but then— the woman at the forefront suddenly paused.
The whole group almost crashed into her.
"What the hell! Huff...huff...why are you stopping again??" The young master fud and the woman’s face under the white light was dark.
"It’s a dead end."
The light shone upon a solid wall with no way out.
"Again?" The burly guy’s instinct kicked in.
Sothing is wrong.
Bumping into two dead ends in less than a minute...
"A maze." The archer muttered, his bow swatting the slis. "It has to be a maze."
"A sli dungeon...with a maze?" The woman whispered.
Sothing... doesn’t feel right.
"Okay, move, move, " The archer shouted as he pushed the young master aside.
"Hey! Fck! What the—"
"I’ll go to the front!"
The archer’s thin body squeezed past the burly guy and once he was at the forefront, he imdiately chanted.
"Bullseye Mark!"
Wooong.
A ball of energy poured out, a strand peeled off and disappeared into the void.
The archer took an arrow and shot it randomly.
Tang!
The arrow cut through the air, whizzing past the walls and when it hit a dead end, a glowing bullseye mark appeared, glowing so bright it could be seen from afar.
"Okay, I’ve marked the dead end! Don’t run in this direction! Turn around!"
The archer squeezed to the front and repeated the trick.
Swish! Swish!
A few more arrows flew through, each "flying" forward nacingly.
Whenever an arrow hit a dead end and a mark glowed, the archer imdiately turned around.
"Dead end! Huff. Huff. To the left!"
"Dead end! Turn right!"
Tang. Tang. Tang.
More and more red marks appeared and the group never approached those marks, only running towards paths with no marks.
Lucien saw the maze being cracked easily, yet his face remained calm.
An itchy feeling gnawed on his fangs and Lucien subconsciously licked his fangs.
The corner of his lips were curled up.
Heheh. It’s not that easy, guests~
There’s still a little...
Surprise.
As the light bulb slowly left, the wall behind throbbed slowly, a faint rubbing noise sounded.
Grrkkk....
At the sa ti, the hunters were running around with slis popping up here and there.
Sizzle! Sizzle!
A few droplets of corrosive saliva landed on the monkey-like guy and he groaned.
"Ugh! If only we had healing potions— "
The monkey-like spearman grumbled, the stinging pain loosened his grip over his spear, his hands trembled.
"Hold on! We are leaving the maze soon! Look, it’s smooth sailing now— "
The light illuminated the path ahead and...
A familiar wall leaking blue liquid appeared.
The relieved smile on the archer’s face froze.
His feet rooted to the ground.
His hands holding the bow trembled, the arrows almost fell.
"A...dead end...?"
But...there’s no mark.
The others saw the dead end with no marks and they imdiately made a U-turn.
"How did your arrows not hit this dead end?" The young master cursed, "It’s obviously right in front of us!"
"Ugh, young master, I also don’t know!"
That one must have been a blunder.
The archer consoled himself as he squeezed past everyone, going to the front.
"Just see! I’m not wrong!"
Tang!
The archer shot another arrow and saw no mark.
"Look! This ti, it’s the right way— "
The group turned to the left.
And they paused in unison.
The archer’s face turned blue and white, his pupils trembling.
"Impossible!"
The archer’s voice rose by an octave, piercing.
"T-the arrow didn’t hit anything!!"
So how could there be...
A glowing bullseye mark here?
It was another dead end.
