Chapter 38: Hunting Thumpers
Midnight, 00:00
The TV screen suddenly turned on and an intermittent voice sounded,
"Day two...expedition...advancing...casualties..."
Lurenzo, who fell asleep for several hours, subconsciously frowned.
"Found...a new...monster... expedition team...is..."
Shhhhh....
The mist around the house flickered.
The void slowly twisted and distorted.
The faint ripple grew bigger—
Until it swallowed the house whole.
Shaaa...
Lurenzo, deep in his sleep, only felt a dizzying feeling, as if he was floating sowhere.
Bzzztt. Bzzt.
The TV screen at the living room had already turned pitch black with a familiar red panel blinking ominously.
[No Signal]
Feeling his head throbbing, Lurenzo slowly opened his eyes and a streak of light ca from the window of the small room.
Hmm? It’s already night?
Lurenzo slowly stood up, rubbing his eyes while patting his body.
Why did he suddenly fall asleep at soone else’s house?
Heck. Is it too late to go ho?
Lurenzo’s foggy eyes quickly sharpened as he looked outside of the room.
A strange silence filled the house, only the sound of his breathing could be heard.
Shudder.
A chill crept up Lurenzo’s spine as he stumbled down the bed, heading towards the door while shouting,
"My lord? Where are you?" Lurenzo’s voice echoed as he stepped out of the room.
He didn’t see that behind him...
The scene outside the window had changed.
Ruined buildings, overgrown moss and tree roots...
Definitely not Civil City.
The mont Lurenzo stepped out of the house, a burst of chilly air seeped into his bone and he subconsciously sneezed.
"Achoo!"
"Ugh. Shit. Did the lord turn the AC too low?" White mist ca out of Lurenzo’s mouth as he rubbed his arms.
Even when he was wearing a thick coat, sohow it didn’t help.
When he looked around, the house was strangely dark, with only dim fluorescent blue light at dark corners.
Lurenzo’s heart skipped a beat, a sense of dread crept in.
"M-my lord? My lord? I need to go ho now— "
Thump.
A dull, heavy rumble suddenly sounded in the distance.
The ground shook slightly and Lurenzo’s body swayed.
"Ooops." He quickly hugged the sticky, cold wall.
The ominous feeling beca stronger.
Sothing is wrong.
Thump.
The heavy thumping noise, like sothing was smashing a hard surface, sounded even closer than before, as if right next to the ear.
The wall under his arms trembled.
Thump.
"My lord??" Lurenzo raised his voice, he didn’t dare to let go of the wall, but the wall shook even harder, jostling his body around.
Right after Lurenzo raised his voice until it echoed throughout the house, the door across the tenant’s room opened with a bang and Lucien, starry-eyed, walked out with Mumu in his arms.
"Huuu. What?" Lucien, clad in a thick cotton coat, blew a mist out of his mouth as he trotted to the living room, his back looked eager.
Seeing Lucien, Lurenzo subconsciously sighed in relief and imdiately let go of the wall, rushing behind Lucien.
"My lord! It’s already late, I have to go ho— "
Thump!
The house swayed, the tile trembled.
Lurenzo almost slipped but Lucien walked as if the house didn’t move.
"Huh? Go ho? But this will be your new ho."
’After all, you’re my tenant.’ was what Lucien didn’t say.
"W-what? I will live here? What about my stall— "
"Ssshhh. Co out with ."
Lucien slowly opened the door.
A burst of colder air ca pouring in but he imdiately strode out.
Thump.
That familiar sound.
Instead of fear, Lucien’s face remained calm, but his inside was twisting with joy.
Heheheh. Fcking thumpers.
Today will be your doom!
"My lord— "
Lurenzo quickly stepped out of the house and then— his voice caught in his throat, his jaw instantly dropped to the ground.
Thump.
In the distance, red fog swirled ominously and a gigantic silhouette was slowly coming closer, every move created the familiar thumping noise.
T-this place...
It looked strangely familiar.
But where did he see it?
Thump.
Dust swirled, building debris shook.
That giant’s body slowly ca out of the red fog and the moonlight imdiately shone on it.
Glint.
The sleek, black shell glead in the dark, the row of sharp needle-like teeth breathed in and out, like a suction.
Thud.
Lurenzo fell on his b*tt, his eyeglasses slipped down his nose, his eyes blank.
"W-w-w-what..."
Lurenzo’s legs trembled so hard it synchronized with the shaking ground, his fingers pointed at the looming worm thumping towards the house.
"WHAT’S THAT??"
Lurenzo’s voice broke but Lucien just whistled.
"Our prey tonight."
Lucien waved his hand and imdiately clicked the virtual button [Summon Natives] on his dungeon managent panel.
"Co, gatekeeper spider."
Swoosh!
Unlike the sli king and queen who ca out of the bathtub, the spider bypassed the house and imdiately appeared at the yard.
Its body fell and flattened the broken motorcycle.
Bang!
"Kikkkkk!"
The gatekeeper spider flailed its legs and bowed, its voice several higher than usual.
...??
Lurenzo almost fainted.
Why...why is the gatekeeper spider here?!
"L-lord?? What...what the hell??"
Ignoring Lurenzo, Lucien pointed his fingers at the space around his yard, his voice full of authority.
"Spin a web and put the trap web around here. Make the trap as big as possible— our prey is a big one."
"Kikkk!" The gatekeeper spider imdiately spat out spider webs and started to weave webs with its front legs.
Lurenzo only blinked several tis when a thin, stretched white web already filled the air, the ends tied to the house, the yard, and the spider’s own legs.
Several layers of spider webs were completely hidden in the white mist, almost invisible to the naked eyes.
At the sa ti...the thumper was already right a ter away from the outermost spider web.
Lucien squeezed Mumu nervously as he whispered in a low voice.
"Wait."
Thump.
The thumper moved an inch closer and...
Tremble.
The webs tied to several places trembled at the sa ti.
"Not yet." Lucien held his breath.
He watched as the thumper continued to move forward and the spider webs quickly entangled its body.
The sticky web plastered itself on the smooth shell and the mont the worm was about to take another step—
Lucien imdiately shouted,
"Now!"
"Kiiik!!"
The gatekeeper spider ’s eyes sharpened, its legs imdiately danced in the air, pulling the webs hard!
Tug!
Lucien’s eyes instantly lit up.
Got it!
However, feeling the strong pull and the sticky webs tightening, the worm shrieked.
"Hissss!"
Its huge body imdiately thrashed around!
The webs trembled hard, the thread was imdiately stretched thin, so thin that it looked like it was about to break.
Crack!
The ground under the thumper’s body cracked as it yanked the webs hard.
Swoosh!
The gatekeeper spider ’s body was instantly dragged towards the thumpers, its legs dug deep into the yard, leaving a deep mark.
"Kiiikk!"
The web bounding the worm was stretched even further and Lucien’s 360° vision imdiately noticed so webs were about to reach the limit.
Ttssss
An ominous sound of snapping reached Lucien’s ears.
Lucien’s confident smile imdiately fell, his inner soul yanked his hair hard.
Not good!
The web is about to snap!
