Chapter 30: Huo Ling’er’s Despair! Ruthless Chen Xuan?
"Your disciples are both quite courageous," Qian Lingxue commented with a smile, glancing at the two arenas from the Peak Master’s hall.
Her words were clearly addressed to Chen Xuan and Lan Lanyue, the Masters of the two daring disciples.
Lan Lanyue’s normally solemn face instantly broke into a smile. Despite his fierce rivalry with Qian Lingxue, he seemed quite pleased with her praise.
"Haha," he chuckled, "That kid must have heard of Situ Yang’s reputation and has taken it upon himself to teach him a lesson."
"What can I say?" He shook his head with faint pride, "Having such an extremely loyal disciple is quite the burden to us, cultivators."
Though he feigned humility, everyone, including Chen Xuan, didn’t miss the satisfied smirk hanging on his lips.
Chen Xuan was slightly surprised, not quite understanding his words.
Sensing his confusion, Tang Yuechen immediately transmitted her voice to him.
"Rumor has it that Lan Lanyue wanted to accept Situ Yang as his disciple long before the boy even joined the Jade Pure Sect," she explained with a smile.
"However, Situ Yang’s parents had already agreed with Peak Master Shang of the Sword Peak and rejected his offer."
"This made Lan Lanyue indignant. He vowed to take in a disciple who would suppress Situ Yang and make them realize their mistake."
Chen Xuan was speechless.
He hadn’t expected that there was such a hidden grudge behind the two youths’ rivalry.
At the same time, he couldn’t help but sigh at Xiao Huo’s luck.
Clearly, the boy was merely Situ Yang’s replacement.
If not for the other party’s refusal, Xiao Huo would likely never have been accepted as Lan Lanyue’s disciple, nor would he have enjoyed such vast resources.
’So many coincidences, one after another. When someone is lucky enough, the heavens truly align for their benefit.’ Chen Xuan thought, shaking his head.
"However, is it really a good idea to push your disciple to this point, Senior Brother Chen?" Tang Yuechen questioned with feigned concern, pointing at the fiery Huo Ling’er below.
The audience might have been puzzled by the Peak Master’s ranking of the Peak Masters, but she, like the rest of the Peak Masters, knew that Chen Xuan was the one who had insisted on placing Huo Ling’er fifth.
Otherwise, the "demoness" would not have been ranked below Cai Xue. There was even a chance that she could have surpassed Xiao Huo!
Chen Xuan chose to remain silent, maintaining an enigmatic smile.
He didn’t justify his decision, keeping to himself that he simply wanted to cause a little trouble for his disciple, and was also concerned that Xiao Huo might challenge her first.
Ignoring the chatter around him, Chen Xuan concentrated on the arenas below, focusing primarily on Huo Ling’er’s battle, while keeping an eye on Xiao Huo, hoping to witness his tricks.
His face remained unchanged, but a flicker of expectation mixed with apprehension flashed deep within his eyes.
--
While the Peak Masters discussed their favorites to win the competition, time passed.
Huo Ling’er versus Mu Chen. Xiao Huo versus Situ Yang.
The battle had commenced in both of the arenas, much to the delight of the cheering audience.
--
Huo Ling’er’s gaze was fiery, her battle intent almost tangible.
The determination in her eyes burned bright as they reflected her opponent’s figure.
She understood the gap between them. She was at the Middle Stage of Qi Refining, while he was already at the Late Stage, not far away from reaching the Peak.
Therefore, she knew that she had to take the initiative.
The moment the Elder signaled for the fight to start, she moved.
The Nirvana Phoenix Art activated instantly, proving her mastery over the spell.
Her Spiritual Energy flared into crimson flames, forming scorching snakes that lashed out at her opponent.
On the opposite side, the brown-haired youth stared at the incoming attack without blinking. Despite the threat, he displayed no panic.
"Junior Sister, please give up. I can see that you’re extraordinary, but there is a massive gap between us," he kindly advised.
His clear eyes proved this wasn’t a taunt, but a sincere piece of advice.
However, seeing Huo Ling’er’s unyielding determination, Mu Chen merely shook his head.
Faced with the fiery serpents, he made no move to evade; instead, he took out several pills and tossed them into the air.
One pill was blue and quickly dissolved into shining stars that formed a defensive shield before him.
Another pill was white, transforming into a thick mist that spread throughout the arena and obscured everyone’s vision.
Finally, a small green pill was thrown directly at Huo Ling’er, bypassing both the shield and her flames.
Their attacks unfolded almost instantaneously.
The flames and the starry shield collided with a resounding boom.
However, the expected long-lasting confrontation did not occur.
The flames vanished the moment they touched the shield, and the shield itself shattered like broken glass.
In that exact moment, the green pill Mu Chen had previously tossed began to transform.
Branches and leaves sprouted mid-air, shifting into wooden weapons that swung violently at Huo Ling’er.
It was widely known that Alchemists lacked combat power, mostly relying on poison and other unorthodox methods.
However, the Alchemy Peak possessed a hidden inheritance, one that defied this common sense.
Those who mastered it could utilize pills as if they were talismans, launching instantaneous, devastating attacks.
Usually, only Foundation Establishment cultivators could grasp some of this technique’s essence.
Yet, Mu Chen, assisted by his Spirit Body, had become one of the rare few to achieve this at the Qi Refining realm!
Huo Ling’er did not know the difficulty of such a feat, nor did she have the time to care.
Before she could even react, she found herself overwhelmed by a barrage of wooden weapons.
A sharp sword threatened to cleave her torso in two, whips lashed out to bind her limbs, and a spear aimed directly at her head.
Huo Ling’er was stunned. She had never experienced a situation like this.
Moreover, while Mu Chen had politely advised her to surrender, his actual attacks were utterly ruthless.
He wasn’t holding back in the slightest!
Huo Ling’er quickly realized that she would genuinely die if she failed to defend herself!
Magic Weapons were strictly forbidden during the competition. At least, those not forged by the disciples themselves were.
Because of this, the embarrassing panda costume she hated so much was no longer there to protect her.
Alarm bells rang within her heart.
She cast the Nirvana Phoenix Art once again and erected a giant wall of flames in front of her.
Feeling that it still wasn’t enough, Huo Ling’er bit her tongue and spat out a mouthful of blood, which instantly transformed into a majestic Phoenix.
She had no time to do anything else. The weapons arrived.
The wall of flames, formed from the searing Phoenix Fire, was swiftly divided into two.
It only managed to burn a small part of the wooden armaments before dissipating.
Next came the Phoenix.
Containing a small part of her Blood Essence, it was several times tougher than the wall.
Yet, even it soon succumbed to the relentless barrage.
Following a piercing, mournful cry, the mythical bird shattered into raw Spiritual Energy.
A chill ran down Huo Ling’er’s spine as she witnessed this scene.
She wanted to dodge, to fight back, but she was completely locked down.
A split second later, the sound of tearing flesh rang out, followed by a splatter of blood and a heavy thud!
Her body collapsed to the ground, smashing onto the cold floor as if she were dead.
The crowd in the stands gasped with shock. The presiding Elder prepared to intervene when Chen Xuan’s voice echoed directly in his mind.
"Don’t stop them! Let them fight," the transmission said, much to the Elder’s dismay.
’You’re crazy! Do you want to kill your disciple?!’ he cursed inwardly, ready to ignore Chen Xuan’s order.
Even though Huo Ling’er wasn’t his disciple, the Elder couldn’t possibly stand by and watch her die.
He stretched out his hand, planning to forcefully separate the two disciples, when his expression suddenly froze.
A blinding orange hue covered his dark pupils, soon forming the towering outline of a majestic figure.
