"This is not my and mom’s ho; she doesn’t like it, and I don’t like it either."

The childish voice was clear and bright.

Lu Huai’an paused his raised hand and then naturally withdrew it.

His dark eyes narrowed slightly, speaking faintly, "You’ll like it after staying for a while."

In this apartnt, nothing had changed.

The cook and cleaning staff were the sa as five years ago, and so were the furniture, even the position of every little ornant remained exactly the sa.

The clothes in the walk-in closet changed with the seasons, as if Lin Chu had never left.

The only addition was a toy room.

"Mom, are we really going to live here?"

"Hmm, but not for too long," Lin Chu washed her son’s small hands, her emotions never revealed to her son, "Grandpa is in this city, I’ll take you to visit his grave another day."

Qi Ming nodded obediently. Since he could rember, his mom had told him many stories about grandpa.

"But I don’t like that man."

He referred to Lu Huai’an as ’that man.’

Not an uncle, nor a father—just the most distant label.

"It’s okay, mom doesn’t like him either," Lin Chu kissed her son’s forehead with gentle comfort, "Just consider it a change of place to sleep. You can also make good friends at the new kindergarten."

Everything here was unfamiliar to Qi Ming.

Adjusting to a new environnt takes ti, especially with that man downstairs; he inexplicably felt fear and rejection.

"Mom, was he bad to you before?"

Lin Chu could no longer recall those past youthful years.

"Not really," she lowered her gaze and remained silent for a mont, "Qi Ming, you’re still young; you don’t understand adult matters. He’s your dad, so he won’t hurt you; you don’t need to be afraid."

Even a cruel tiger wouldn’t eat its cubs, and no matter how ambitious Lu Huai’an was, he wouldn’t harm his own flesh and blood.

Back then, Lu Zhengmao and Old Sir Lu hid this from Lu Huai’an by grasping this point.

This was the first ti Lin Chu admitted to Qi Ming that Lu Huai’an was his biological father.

Even though Qi Ming was young, he understood things better than peers. Although the three of them hadn’t spent much ti in the sa space, he could sense it wasn’t harmonious, even sowhat cold.

"Then what about mom?"

Lin Chu smiled, "Mom is very strong, like Superman; no one can hurt anymore."

A heart that has given up feels no pain.

So it doesn’t matter.

————

Jiang Yichen accurately found the Riverfront Apartnt that evening.

He didn’t rush in directly but waited outside the apartnt.

At this age, he wasn’t the type to act impulsively without thinking—very different from when he quietly took Lin Chu away. This ti, Lu Huai’an had left him information.

Since Lu Huai’an was not hiding, he was fully prepared.

The servant noticed Jiang Yichen when taking out the trash and went to the study to tell Lu Huai’an, "Mr. Lu, there’s a car parked outside with an out-of-town license plate."

Lu Huai’an’s brows didn’t move; he seed indifferent.

He made no indication, simply asking calmly, "Is my wife asleep?"

The servant nodded in response, "She should be; the room lights are off and there’s no movent."

Lu Huai’an closed the docunt and looked at the ti.

Eleven thirty.

Faster than he expected.

"Clean the balcony table and chairs, then make a cup of tea."

The servant understood his aning and nodded respectfully, "Yes."

...

After the servant brought tea to the balcony and turned on the lights, about ten minutes passed before Lu Huai’an ca out from the apartnt.

By then, Jiang Yichen had already consud a quarter of the tea.

"Mr. Lu has so skills; even late-night abductions are within your capability."

In the past five years, they had interacted more than once in work-related scenarios.

Jiang Yichen’s private life was extrely discreet, with no dia reporting anything about him. The only woman linked to him in rumors was the once lukewarm, now silent Qiao An.

Since Jiang Yichen left An City, he had never returned.

Including when the Jiang Family encountered trouble, he didn’t show up.

Five years ago, Lu Huai’an forgot about him once Jiang Yichen left, never imagining that the one who took Lin Chu would be him.

The sumr night was quiet and comfortably cool.

Lu Huai’an sat in the wicker chair opposite Jiang Yichen, legs crossed, elegant and noble.

He lit a cigarette and spoke slowly, "Mr. Jiang’s wording is inaccurate; I was rely bringing my wife ho, not ’breaking in to kidnap her.’"

Wife...

Jiang Yichen’s tea-drinking action paused, looking up at the man opposite.

The danger hidden between his brows blended with the night; his distant voice conveyed mockery, "If I rember correctly, you two are already divorced."

Lu Huai’an tapped his fingers on the table gently.

"Knowing Mr. Jiang acts quickly, I remarried Lin Chu soon after arriving in An City. Now it’s too late; if you’re worried about Lin Chu’s safety, you could leave directly. If you want to take her away, check first if you have the status and qualification to do so."

Silence.

For a long ti.

Among the sycamore leaves, the faint calls of sumr cicadas were heard.

Jiang Yichen let out a quiet laugh, "Lu Huai’an, just how insecure do you have to be to use marriage to tie a person down."

The blue-gray smoke swirled around, enhancing Lu Huai’an’s sternly handso features with an even deeper, unclear aura.

His dark eyes remained calm as usual, the surface placid but seemingly frozen deep inside.

His distant voice slowly spread a dangerous significance, "I didn’t pursue matters from five years ago, already giving you enough courtesy. This tea is the last gesture of politeness; next ti, I won’t be so accommodating."

Jiang Yichen continued his refined and courteous gentlemanly behavior, giving a low laugh, "Mr. Lu, what an impressive confidence."

Just considering how he personally sent his biological father to prison five years ago, it’s clear he’s no simple person.

Compared to Lu Huai’an’s aloof repression, Jiang Yichen’s cunning was even more alarming.

Lu Huai’an also laughed, though the curve of his lips was too faint to be discernible, "Whether or not I possess actual capability, Mr. Jiang can try it."

————

Sensing the bed sinking behind her, Lin Chu suddenly opened her eyes.

She was never an alert person; previously, even if soone banged drums in her room she might not awaken.

What made her so sensitive was not only the environnt she hadn’t experienced for five years but more so the aura from the man.

Almost without further thought, she propped herself up, ready to get out of bed, only to have her wrist accurately grasped and pulled back.

The man’s heavy body pressed down with a strong alcohol scent.

Lin Chu turned her head, her voice devoid of any warmth, "Lu Huai’an, just dare to touch and see."
