Chapter 1225: Chapter 1223: The Situation Has Changed
Wufu’s sudden stumble startled everyone, especially Scholar Gong, who froze. But how could Wufu really fall forward? Just as she staggered, Mo Lan quickly caught her.
"Miss, be careful," Mo Lan said, pulling Wufu back.
Wufu’s face flushed red as she looked down at the small stone by her feet, speaking with a hint of embarrassnt and annoyance, "This place is so uneven." She glanced at Scholar Gong, her expression sowhat regretful and shy.
Jadeite and Mo Lan found it strange, yet they remained expressionless, guessing that the young lady’s action had a deeper aning.
Scholar Gong seed sowhat uneasy as well, moving aside and cupping his hands, "Please go ahead, Miss."
"Thank you, sir." Wufu nodded shyly and walked forward, saying, "Let’s leave early tomorrow morning. Mother should be arriving soon. She’ll certainly be happy to see
picking her up at the dock."
"Indeed, Miss is right."
Scholar Gong nodded as he listened, blinking before turning around to leave.
"Miss, he has left," Mo Lan quietly inford, catching a glimpse with her peripheral vision.
Wufu responded with a low "Hm," saying quietly, "There’s sothing off about him. He knows martial arts." When she had lunged forward, his reaction was evidently one of alertness, defense, and readiness to counter.
Would a Scholar Master with no strength to restrain a chicken be so tense?
"Miss, do you need
to monitor him?" Mo Lan asked.
Wufu shook her head, "No need, fetch Chi Liu to watch him instead."
"Understood."
Wufu turned around, returning to the village chief’s house where she sat down, sipping the tea she had brought with her, quietly watching as the sun set and the village began to light up with lamps.
"Miss, Chi San and Chi Wu have returned," Mo Lan whispered, entering Wufu’s room.
Wufu nodded, glancing at the main hall still lit with dim lights, and silently slipped out of the village chief’s house.
Chi San and the others were in the vegetable garden not far from the village chief’s house. When Wufu saw them, they cupped their hands in greeting.
"Anything unusual at the silver mine?" Wufu asked Chi Wu directly.
Chi Wu replied, "Nothing unusual, but two people from the mining team developed a fever a few days ago and had to stop work temporarily."
Wufu’s expression changed, "Where are those people now?"
"They are recuperating at Wang Family Fort," Chi Wu quickly replied, sensing Wufu’s urgency.
"Is anyone guarding over them?"
Chi Wu hesitated a mont, then shook his head, "The person who sent them stayed for a day and then returned, thinking they would co back once the fever subsided."
Wufu asked, "I fear soone might have noticed sothing amiss. How much longer before the mine is fully extracted?"
Chi Wu answered, "No more than three days at the latest, there’s not much left of the mine now."
"Return imdiately, arrange the team’s withdrawal. Forget about the remaining ore, destroy what you can, and leave the rest." Wufu decided, "Chi San, assist him. Everyone should disperse and head back to Beiyan."
"Miss?" Both Chi San and Chi Wu were startled, wondering what had happened to warrant such urgency.
Wufu explained, "Village Chief Lin ntioned that there are two strangers in the village. I encountered one during the day, and he knows martial arts. I suspect the mine’s location has been leaked."
The two n were stunned.
"Finding a gold and silver mine and not reporting it is a capital offense, not to ntion illicit mining. Enough talk, evacuate imdiately."
Chi Wu then asked, "Miss, what about Lin Family Village?"
Wufu frowned, about to speak, when Mo Lan, with sharp eyes, said, "Miss, Xiao Liu is signaling a warning."
Everyone followed her finger to see a wisp of smoke rise from the end of the village—a signal from Chi Liu.
The situation has changed.
