Chapter 689: 688 no such person found

Gain a yard!

Facing fourth and one, the Kansas City Chiefs lined up in the Shotgun Formation, seemingly ready to gamble on a pass play, but it was all a smoke bomb. In the end, they chose the most conservative, simplest, and safest option—gain a yard—seeking a breakthrough amidst the ground battle.

Baltimore Ravens Defense: Bring it on!

Mosley couldn’t hide his smile. Harbaugh had been guarding against this move by Reed and had prepared a counterasure; to be precise, he had been guarding against Li Wei. Now that Li Wei had beco the lead blocker, the defense’s difficulty increased, but nevertheless, the Baltimore Ravens did not fall into disarray.

Planting his foot, stepping forward, Mosley threw his body out there without any reservations—

The key to defending a one-yard gain is to not be distracted, you must give it your all.

...

However, as soon as Mosley took a step forward, he noticed sothing strange:

Where are they?

Logically, in a one-yard gain tactic, the crowd should be bustling and converging on the offensive line, forcibly advancing through a power showdown, with nurical superiority playing a key role.

But the offensive line of the Kansas City Chiefs seed a bit thin.

In the chaos, a bad feeling flashed through Mosley’s mind.

anwhile, Mahos moved stealthily, completing a fake handoff so convincingly that the football seed to pass into Hunter’s arms, but it remained in his hands.

Turning around, Mahos looked to the other side and extended his right hand.

The football, finally handed off, nestled between Li Wei’s hands.

Daring and outrageous.

Right after Li Wei had just been intercepted and fumbled on the next offensive play, Reed brazenly gave the football back to Li Wei—

Facing the Heart Demon head-on.

This ti, Reed’s gambit was ahead of Harbaugh’s anticipation.

Turning around, adjusting, moving laterally.

Li Wei and Mahos moved side by side, akin to two little swans, with Mahos not leaving after completing the handoff but closely following Li Wei, ready to block defensively.

Urban was about to break free on the defensive end, and Mahos’ muscles tensed, prepared to confront what was coming, but at the crucial mont, the Kansas City Chiefs’ offensive line did its job—

Holding Urban back.

It was just for a mont, a re mont.

Mahos and Li Wei had already maneuvered past the tussle at the line of scrimmage, the Chu River and Han border, and crossed the kickoff line, both continuing to charge forward.

The yard was theirs.

Without any interference, without any collision, and even without raising any alarm, the Kansas City Chiefs had stolen a yard right from the clutches of the Baltimore Ravens.

“Chiefs Special,” making its appearance once again.

Though they had secured the first down, Mahos and Li Wei didn’t stop running or fall to the ground but instead kept pushing forward.

Just a step away, Saggs appeared in front of them.

Saggs couldn’t believe what he was seeing: they had all been tricked! Damn it!

One second before, they were gleefully giving Li Wei a lesson in love, smug over frightening him into a fumble.

The next second, they couldn’t even touch Li Wei’s jersey, the defense about to collapse completely, with the imnse sha nearly driving Saggs insane.

Clenching his teeth fiercely, Saggs was determined, a glint of ferocity in his eyes as he locked onto Li Wei, charging forward like a tiger descending the mountain.

However.

Bang!

No sooner had he started than Saggs was hit with a blow coming from beneath, striking his shoulder hard, yet Li Wei remained out of reach, two steps away.

“Damn. That quarterback.”

A thought flashed through Saggs’ mind, but before he could ponder it further, his world turned upside down.

Saggs couldn’t understand how the quarterback had boldly stepped in as the opening blocker for the running back—what was going on? Worse yet, his all-or-nothing charge was effortlessly overturned, spinning like a paper doll in a waltz.

Such embarrassnt, such a loss of face.

Mahos had no ti to regard Saggs’ shattered ego and pride, as he unleashed all the power from deep within his Dantian, flipping Saggs over, his eyes never leaving Li Wei:

Run, rookie! Run!

Urban: Gone.

Saggs: Gone.

Mosley: He’s not there.

The entire right wing of the field had been cleared, with an open path ahead.

Thud thud.

Five yards.

Thud thud thud.

Ten yards.

Li Wei’s speed instantly burst forth, and before one could blink, the red figure had already dashed past the forty-yard line on the Baltimore Ravens’ side of the field—

Rushing straight in.

Cornerback Humphrey: Crap.

By the ti Humphrey realized that Kelsey’s forward motion was just a feint and he began to backtrack after sprinting out a few steps, the alarm had been sounded.

However, Humphrey still hadn’t anticipated Li Wei’s initial speed to be so fast, like entering an uninhabited territory, as it seed like the Baltimore Ravens Defense couldn’t even touch the hem of Li Wei’s clothing; if he were to fully unleash his speed, then the Baltimore Ravens would have no chance.

Pretending to be ready to drop back, Humphrey successfully tricked Kelsey into following, but with a quick stop and turn, Humphrey moved forward again, leaving Kelsey turned into a post, and charged straight ahead—

Kelsey: ??? What’s going on?

Of course, Humphrey knew that logically he should have dropped back to intercept Li Wei as quickly as possible.

But facing Li Wei, matters were not so simple, which is why Humphrey simply went with the flow, abandoning the idea of stopping Li Wei near the thirty-five-yard line and instead going to the twenty-five-yard line to lie in wait.

Willing to let go and sacrifice, not being greedy, that’s how one could trap the prey.

Especially prey like Li Wei.

So, Humphrey’s counterintuitive move successfully fooled Kelsey.

As Li Wei accelerated, Humphrey did too, taking one step ahead and appearing near the twenty-five-yard line, then turning and rushing back.

Heading straight for Li Wei.

Bending his knees, lowering his center of gravity, Humphrey was ready for the collision.

Getting closer.

Rapidly closing in.

As the high-speed train was about to collide head-on.

But then, the full-speed sprinting Li Wei didn’t slow down, making a move to change direction to his right, forcing Humphrey’s center of gravity to sway to his own left.

Imdiately after, Li Wei pulled his center of gravity back, right up close to Humphrey, but instead of forcing his way through, he rotated three hundred and sixty degrees clockwise.

Humphrey was just a quarter to an eighth of a beat too late to pull his center of gravity back and the next step found him blocked by Li Wei.

Humphrey beca a pillar, watching helplessly as Li Wei circled around him.

So close at hand, within reach, yet everything was just slightly too slow.

The world slowed down tenfold, a hundredfold.

Humphrey could clearly see his own hands follow in an attempt to grab Li Wei, only to be slightly delayed.

Everything was just a hair’s breadth away.

Then, turning and stepping forward, that red figure danced in his view, always just out of grasp, and by the ti Humphrey had completely adjusted his center of gravity, the figure had already taken off at full speed.

The speed, fully released, floated away.

Humphrey held his breath, keeping up at full speed, accelerating, bursting forth, sprinting with all his might, while his footsteps and center of gravity were unsteady amid the chaos, teetering dangerously, and from start to finish, still unable to grasp even a piece of Li Wei’s clothing, watching helplessly as the number twenty-three jersey pulled away.

Growing farther and farther apart.

Utterly hopeless.
