Chapter 1268: Chapter 1267: Coldhearted

The breeze was biting cold.

Though the Kansas City wind wasn’t strong, the December chill was no less fierce. This winter’s first snow was still a no-show, causing temperatures to plumt continuously. The biting cold stabbed relentlessly, penetrating beneath the skin, almost freezing the boiling, burning blood.

The sky was clear but held many clouds. The sparse and thin sunlight breaking through them felt weak and insipid; even upon reaching one’s body, it offered little warmth. The clear morning seed like an evening, with chaotic light and shadows that confused the sense of ti.

At the Kansas City Chiefs Training Facility, a figure was running, drenched in sweat.

Alternating between sudden sprints and steady pacing, energy burned continuously. Despite the biting wind, hot sweat poured profusely.

The sound of footsteps pattered, echoing faintly in the empty training field.

A closer look into those bright eyes revealed focus and dedication. Even the most basic drills were completed with attention to every detail, with an attitude so ticulous that ordinary training could achieve its best results, turning everyday exercises into an enjoynt.

Completely absorbed.

Even if soone did appear on the training field, he paid no attention.

Mahos watched Li Wei with a face full of worry, his eyes and expression betraying his unease, yet he did not know what to do.

Mahos felt suffocated, hurriedly loosening his perfectly straight tie—

It seed, indeed, he was not suited for suits.

Before him, Mahos stood in a neat black suit, feeling out of place on the training ground, not fitting in at all.

He wasn’t the only one. Everyone arriving at the training ground was also dressed in black suits.

Today was Felix’s funeral.

The entire Kansas City Chiefs team and thousands of fans were going to the funeral, accompanying this loyal, passionate, and unique Chieftain on his final journey.

Not just players, but manager Veach and coach Reed were also there.

Because of this, the morning’s regular training was delayed by a full ninety minutes.

However, there was one exception:

Li Wei.

Li Wei did not attend the funeral. Not only did he not attend, but he also arrived at the training ground early.

Mahos could not hide his concern.

Since learning the night before that Li Wei would not attend the funeral, Mahos had been worried about Li Wei. From any perspective, Li Wei was one of the most integral parts of Felix’s funeral, and there was no reason for him to miss it.

Yet, Li Wei was absent.

Not only Mahos but Karen was also searching for Li Wei’s figure throughout the funeral. After finding out he was absent, even Karen was taken aback.

Li Wei said nothing, appearing as normal as ever; but they all knew what Felix truly ant to Li Wei.

Taking off the tie, undoing the buttons, but Mahos still felt out of breath, a heavy stone pressing on his chest that refused to be shaken off.

“Patrick…”

A voice called from behind, and Mahos turned to see Kelsey.

Kelsey stopped nearby, watching Li Wei fully imrsed in training, his brow also showing so concern, “Has he been like this the whole ti?”

Mahos nodded, “For five minutes.”

Kelsey, “At such intensity?”

Mahos nodded again.

Just by watching, Kelsey found it chilling, as if witnessing a devil.

Initially, he thought that after three seasons, they understood Li Wei enough and had grown accustod to Li Wei’s intensity, but now it seed they were still too young and naive.

Behind them, Hill, who was also heading to the locker room, witnessed the scene and shook his head repeatedly, placing his hands on Mahos’ right shoulder and Kelsey’s left shoulder. Leaning forward between them, he scrutinized Li Wei’s training state, “Don’t worry, the rookie knows what he’s doing.”

“Even if we have no idea what’s going on, the rookie won’t lose his way.”

“I think we should worry about our training state today; be careful not to collide with the rookie, that’s definitely hell mode.”

The latter half of Hill’s sentence was shouted to the other players—

On a usual day, there would definitely be a response, either complaints, groans, or hearty laughter, the reaction would be positive.

But today, only a few players barely managed a small tug at the corners of their mouths before their expressions returned to calm.

Suppressed, gloomy, lost.

Not only Li Wei, but the entire Kansas City Chiefs team was heavily impacted by Felix’s sudden and unanticipated death.

Without any ntal preparation, they were still basking in the joy and happiness of defeating the New England Patriots when the news of the farewell hit them.

After Annie Galas, the Kansas City Chiefs lost another loyal fan, Kansas City and the world lost another young drear with hope, it was impossible to simply describe the ss and pain with words.

They would no longer hear the figure in a wheelchair, full of cheers and passion, in the stands of Arrowhead Stadium, the part of the spiritual power belonging to the Kansas City Chiefs resting forever.

Hill received no response, feeling helpless. He looked at Mahos, then at Kelsey, spreading his hands and letting out a long sigh, dragging his heavy steps to the locker room, muttering complaints, “I hate suits.”

But that wasn’t all. What truly concerned Mahos was the dia—

The pack of hyenas.

For long, the dia had neither cared about nor noticed Felix’s existence, treating him as an ordinary fan.

Yet after Felix’s death, they sward in like sharks slling blood, crowding around his funeral.

Following the end of the funeral, Mahos casually checked social dia, and the hyenas were already baring their fangs, striking precisely at Li Wei’s wounds.

“Li Wei hit hard, hardcore Kansas City Chiefs fan dies.”

“Hardcore fan passes away, Li Wei absent from funeral—so was it all strategic PR?”

“Li Wei misses fan’s funeral, reveals stone-cold heart.”

“While all of Kansas City mourns, where is team leader Li Wei?”

“Facing the death of a loyal fan, Li Wei remains silent.”

“Li Wei: the true face of cold-blood cruelty no longer hidden.”

“Is there really no problem in the Kansas City Chiefs locker room?”

“Where is Li Wei? Has anyone seen Li Wei?”

“Usually the loudest, disappears at crucial tis, this is the leader of the Kansas City Chiefs, ha.”

“Li Wei, your cover is blown, at least complete the basic public relations duties, will you?”

Curses and pointing fingers from thousands!

Unimaginably, just days ago, Li Wei was surrounded by showered praise, yet now he had beco the target of public criticism, the rapid changes on social dia left ordinary people struggling to keep up.

What on earth has happened to the world?
