She felt a bit embarrassed. She turned her back to deal with all her emotions before turning around again. Except for her slightly red eyes, she appeared quite calm.
"I thought you had already left."
After Young Master Huo finished chatting with Shen Hongxiu, he ran into Jiang Fengmian. The two hadn’t gathered in a while, so they sat for a bit at a nearby café. Of course, Huo Shaoyan didn’t explain this to An Ge. His voice was cold.
"I ca over to warn you to ddle less in my affairs with An Baoying and stop playing clever tricks in front of the old lady or my mother..."
An Ge, not in a good mood, interrupted him for the first ti, "I know."
Being interrupted clearly displeased Huo Shaoyan. "Don’t you have any manners interrupting others?" he snapped.
An Ge felt a sting in her eyes, and tears almost rolled out again, but she managed to hold them back. She thought of the ti Xiao Ye barged into the East Garden, challenging Huo Shaoyan, and asked her that question:
Respect is mutual. Stop using status and power to oppress others. It gains no people’s hearts, right, An Xiaoge?
Xiao Ye’s words were not wrong. But she also understood the cautiousness and helplessness of being at the bottom of the food chain. Like right now, though she hated the man deeply inside, she was powerless, as if she could only endure.
"Sorry," she said, pressing her lips together and suddenly letting out a small laugh. "Soone like who’s been to jail indeed has low manners, so please bear with ." She paused, "Do you have anything else?"
Huo Shaoyan’s face looked unpleasant, and with a cold expression, he left. An Ge let out a long sigh of relief. However, the feeling of satisfaction after confronting him didn’t last long before she beca anxious again.
She was keenly aware of who she relied on now. Offending the support she depended on was like lifting a rock only to drop it on her own foot.
An Ge’s unease persisted until around eleven in the morning, when a call from Uncle Fu slightly settled her mind.
"Ms. An Ge, it’s eleven o’clock."
The implication was that it was ti to deliver lunch to the young master. An Ge, troubled over finding a chance to appease the big shot, saw this as an opportunity now.
An Ge hurried back to the East Garden of Huo Mansion. By the ti she arrived, it was already eleven thirty. However, Uncle Fu, worried she might not make it, had nearly finished preparing the als, just waiting for her to plate them. Uncle Fu’s culinary skills were of star-level quality; there was no doubt about that.
After packing and organizing the al boxes, An Ge gestured a heart to Uncle Fu. "Great kindness, no words can express my gratitude."
Watching her haste, Uncle Fu could only worry for her. "Watch your step, don’t fall..."
An Ge rushed all the way to the door of Huo Shaoyan’s office at his company and just happened to run into Shen Hongxiu coming out. Having t just this morning at the hospital, Shen Hongxiu’s attitude toward her was noticeably better than before. "Is your mother’s condition stable now?"
"Stable," An Ge replied, taking out an embroidered Peace Fortune from her bag and respectfully handing it to Shen Hongxiu. "This is for you."
The front of the Peace Fortune was embroidered with the character for fortune, and the back with a golden lotus. This type of lotus, also called the thousand-petal lotus flower, with its yellow-green color, was recognized by Buddhist temples as part of the "Five Trees and Six Flowers." Shen Hongxiu believed in Buddhism, and although it was difficult to embroider, An Ge did it anyway. Not for any other reason, just to lessen her inner feeling of guilt.
Shen Hongxiu was quite surprised. "You..."
An Ge explained,
"You and Second Master reaching the point of divorce, I feel sohow partly responsible. I didn’t know how to express my apology, so I embroidered this small fortune bag. I hope you won’t mind."
Shen Hongxiu was soone who loved and hated distinctly. At first, she thought a fly doesn’t land on a seamless egg, hence An Ge might not be a good person. However, after calmly realizing the essence of marriage, she shed her tinted glasses toward An Ge. An Ge’s behavior at this mont reminded her of the slap she previously gave An Ge, leaving so regret in her heart.
Taking the Peace Fortune, she said,
"This matter has nothing to do with you. If anyone should apologize, it’s first. That day, without knowing the whole story, I slapped you and even said such humiliating things. You must have felt aggrieved, didn’t you?"
Of course, there was grievance. But just for what Shen Hongxiu said at this mont, An Ge felt that the slap wasn’t suffered in vain and considered it her entry fee to getting acquainted with Shen Hongxiu.
An Ge smiled softly, "Can we consider this... a reconciliation?"
Seeing her smile childishly, Shen Hongxiu felt a subtle change in her heart. "Yes."
An Ge’s smile curved her eyes, "Then may I call you, Aunt?"
Shen Hongxiu thought for a while, "Ah Yan calls that too."
"Aunt."
An Ge’s voice was soft and sweet, naturally putting people in a good mood. Just when the atmosphere was pleasant, Huo Shaoyan’s voice carried over with its usual cold sarcasm.
"Is the cost of winning people over so low now?"
Embroidering so broken flowers and plants to win people over is unbelievable; why wasn’t anyone showing such gesture for him too?
An Ge didn’t mind his sarcasm at all, saying, "Young Master Huo, I’m here to deliver your lunch."
Huo Shaoyan ignored her.
Shen Hongxiu, finding his moodiness extre, remarked discontentedly,
"Ah Yan, your mother is right. You’re about to beco a father, so you should temper your temperant too."
Shen Hongxiu didn’t linger much longer and soon departed.
Afterward, An Ge walked up to him. He sat while she stood. Just as she was about to say sothing, her foot stepped on sothing she couldn’t see, causing her to fall directly onto him, and in the next instant, she kissed his lips.
