Chapter 118: Dresken
Eric woke up to the sound of drawers slamming and frustrated muttering. He sat up in bed, looking at Mia. "What’s going on, Babe?"
She looked up, her eyes narrowed. "I can’t find my jeans."
Eric looked at the ti. "It’s 6am. Why do you need them?"
She sighed, sitting against the dresser.
"I want to go back ho already." She grumbled. "We just got Liara back, and then had to co here less than a week later. The talks are done, and we know what to do. Let the politicians handle the political stuff."
Eric smirked as he walked over. He wrapped his arms around her, kissing her head.
"Okay. Let’s go ho then. I agree. We have been in desks and briefings more than changing diapers."
Eric texted Milano and inford him they would be heading ho.
She leaned her head against his shoulder. "I miss monts like these."
"When all of this is over, we can have more of them." He responded, stroking her ears.
Back at ho, Mia scooped Liara from Jessica. Liara was fussing, and the teenager was doing her best to calm her down. Jessica’s hair was in a ssy bun, and circles were under her eyes. She looked up at Eric as Mia soothed the infant.
"Thank God." She groaned, collapsing against his chest. "I don’t know how ya’ll do it. She didn’t go down the entire night!"
Eric smirked, stroking Jessica’s hair.
"Well, daughter. Do you still want one of your own? I’m sure Liam is ready. You guys are practicing parenthood pretty well with Liara."
"DAD!" She grumbled back, hiding her face in his shoulder. "Would you quit it!"
Eric laughed, kissing her on the head. "It’s good to see you again. I know you had a rough night, so get so sleep. Mia and I will take care of things."
Jessica nodded. She gave Mia a hug and Eric a death stare before retreating to her room.
Josh stood by his window, looking outside. His hands were clasped behind his back as he gazed at the two suns rising on each side of the horizon.
"I have been here for three months now, and I still can’t get used to the two suns." He sighed as he pulled out his phone, looking at news from back on Earth.
He scrolled mindlessly for a few minutes before an article popped up on his feed. "No way." He muttered. "That has to be fake."
He pulled up a search and typed in "Washington D.C."
Within seconds, dozens of articles and news pages popped up. All the social dia posts he could see were videos of people showing off their lives. He clicked on one.
Purple trees, teal grass...
Two suns.
Washington, D.C. was in Brishan.
"Are you fucking shitting !" He shouted.
Sheets on the bed ruffled as Susan stirred. She sat up, the blanket covering her nude body. "What’s the matter?" She asked sleepily, her eyes still half closed, while she yawned.
"My country’s capital fractured. They signed an alliance with Riemskin and the Dragons."
Susan woke up fully. She threw the covers off and walked over, picking up the phone.
"This is not good." She muttered. She scrolled through the articles and saw King Remory with Dragon King Tryasche. "So the Dragons lived."
Josh looked up. "What do you an?"
"We thought that we had killed the rest of the Dragons that rose against us around two hundred years ago. My brother reported that he had rid the world of all opposing dragon factions, but as it turns out, that was either a lie or they hid well." She pressed against him, basking in his warmth.
"We have to tell my father."
He glared coldly at the phone while he ran his fingers along her sides.
"I agree."
She sighed as she put on a shirt. "The weapons tests will be in about four hours. Let’s go tell him now."
"You wanna go... like that?"
".... Good point. I’ll put on a nightgown."
Once they were dressed, Susan called for a maid. "Is my father awake?"
"Yes, Your Highness." The maid responded while she helped Susan straighten her hair.
"Good. Tell him that the hero and I must see him at once. It is of grave importance."
The maid nodded, leaving the room. Josh walked out of the bathroom, his eyes eting Susan’s. "How do you think he will take the information?"
"About us sleeping together, or the fracture?" She teased, turning around so that he could tie the back of her dress.
Josh laughed. "Both. I think he already knows about us sleeping together."
"He probably does. His information system is ridiculous, honestly."
Josh kissed her head. "It’s gotta be when you run an Empire that spans ninety percent of the world."
Susan was about to respond when the maid from earlier returned.
"Lord Mithrael will see you two now."
Susan led the way to Mithrael’s office. Josh clenched his fists as he pulled out his phone, ensuring the pictures of Remory and Tryasche were easily accessible.
A guard opened the door for them, and Mithrael sat at his desk. Two aides stood on either side of him. Conversation ceased when the two walked in.
"Leave us," Mithrael commanded.
He looked up at Josh and Susan once the room was clear and the door was shut.
"What is it you wished to bring to my attention, daughter?"
Susan bowed before looking up to et Mithrael’s gaze. "Father, through the use of Josh’s device, we have discovered sothing unsettling. There are still dragons left, and they have allied with Riemskin."
Mithrael set his pen down and stood up.
"I was made aware of the continued existence of Dragons by your brother. These otherworlders must have sweetened their desires with the promise of trade to gain their trust."
Susan bowed. "I do not think that to be the case, Father. I think it is because the otherworlders have shown they can fight with us."
Mithrael sneered.
"We have yet to show our hand, daughter truly. We have rely deployed a fraction of our forces. The Dragons would know that. They likely think the technology gap is their shelter."
Susan nodded. "There is one more thing. The capital of Josh’s country recently fractured. They also signed the alliance."
Mithrael sighed, rubbing his face in his hand before looking up.
"The otherworld is fracturing at a more rapid pace now." He muttered as he pulled out a map. "Where is the new fracture?"
"I do not know yet."
"Very well. If you can glean its location in any way, do so. If it is easily targetable, add it to the list of targets."
Mithrael then pulled up a report.
"I fear we have to increase our production. After the siege failed, I assu the other worlders may try to move into our territory. Tell Heque to arrange for each factory to produce another one hundred Mumat, Llrathel, and Sraiz systems every month. I want over one thousand of each by the end of the year."
Susan looked up in shock. "Father, those numbers-"
Mithrael cut her off.
"Do as I say. Soon, they will be on our doorstep. We cannot afford to carry. If we wait for them and feel as if what we have is enough, we will find that it isn’t."
Susan bowed. "Yes, father. Will that be all?"
Mithrael nodded. "Josh, you stay. Susan, go do as I asked."
Once Susan left, Mithrael took a mont to observe the hero. The God stood up and walked over. "I know you have been sleeping with my daughter. I do not care what my subordinates due in their ti off, and far be it from
to tell who to sleep with who. I will just say: do not let it interfere with your duties."
Josh nodded. "Yes, your majesty. I will not disappoint you."
Mithrael smiled, patting the hero on the back. "Good man. Now, go gather the Generals. I want a list of all the possible targets they will go after. I have a feeling they will not sit idle."
Josh took a look at the world map.
"I agree, Your Majesty. After a major win such as breaking a siege, doctrine is to stabilize then push forward."
Mithrael sighed as he sat back down at his desk. "I will be in the eting chambers in an hour. For now, father the General’s. Have so targets you think they may attack before I arrive."
Josh bowed.
"As you wish, sire."
Josh t up with Susan as they were on their way to go fetch the generals. She had a slight blush on her face as he joined her. "He gave
his blessing."
She sighed. "I would continue even without it."
" too. I enjoy your company. You were the first person to really know
for ."
She stopped in her tracks, looking at Josh with a soft expression. "I know how it is to feel outcast by those around you."
