Chapter 217 Jiang An, Just Like His Smoking Addiction
The man’s palm silently enveloped hers, intending to wrap around her slender fingers, and the sweltering body heat attached itself, as if a faint electric current briefly passed through.
Jiang An abruptly withdrew her hand, quickly turned to the side, and a thin layer of red surfaced on her face.
Gao Chuan noticed the woman’s rapid evasion, and his eyes gradually dimd, his movents becoming sluggish as he retracted his hand, his Adam’s apple subtly moving twice.
In the dimly lit corner, the noisy music continued unabated, and the group of people around them were thoroughly enjoying themselves, none paying attention to the subtle movents between the two.
Gao Chuan had been drinking quite a bit tonight and, after Jiang An arrived, beca even more agitated.
The man silently tugged at his loose collar, revealing his exquisitely sculpted collarbone and, along with his sharp facial features, the side profile of him drinking was indescribably sexy.
Since Xia Zi had already left midway, Jiang An felt that there was no need to stay, hesitated for a mont, then stood up to find Song Li who was sitting among the crowd, greeted him, and began to walk away.
After learning that Jiang An’s friend had left, Song Li suggested driving her ho, which Jiang An flatly refused. The woman gracefully waved goodbye to everyone and turned, without looking back, toward the bar’s exit.
The crowd had thought there would be drama from this couple tonight, but to their surprise, Gao Chuan was as silent as a clam the whole ti, and the ex-spouses seed like strangers.
After Jiang An left, everyone turned to look at Gao Chuan, who remained seated. The man picked up his glass of liquor and drained it in one gulp, and after not too long, he eventually stood up and followed suit.
Song Li watched the man’s hurried departure, "Giggle," and laughed out loud.
Jiang An was visiting this bar for the first ti and fumbled her way to the corridor leading to the exit. As she was about to leave, bag in hand, she looked up to see Gao Chuan, not far away, leaning against the wall waiting for her.
The man was tall and lean, his posture languid against the wall behind him, his features clear and deep, his long, peach-blossom eyes harboring inscrutable emotions.
Jiang An’s heart silently lifted as she tried to walk past him nonchalantly, but still found herself unexpectedly seized by the arm by the man.
Instinctively, she tried to shake off his restraint, but the struggle seed to provoke Gao Chuan’s emotions. The man abruptly turned her around, pressing one arm against the wall, forcibly pulling her into his domain.
The corridor was dimly lit, and occasionally couples would pass by, casting curious glances at the ambiguous actions of the two.
When Jiang An ca back to her senses and slowly opened her eyes, she saw the man’s face, bearing a hint of anger, who asked in a low voice, "Jiang An, how long will you keep avoiding ?"
The man’s voice was hoarse, his tone as cold as a howling wind.
Jiang An, upon hearing his sudden questioning, was startled and let out a cold chuckle.
Avoiding him? Indeed, she had tried everything to stay away from him, but what was the result? She had been back in the country for just a short week and had already bumped into him three tis, back and forth.
Clearly, her deliberate avoidance seed to have had no effect.
"I would like to ask you, we are already divorced, why are you still interfering with my life?" the woman retorted, her gaze towards the man filled with cold beauty.
Her ethereal voice reached Gao Chuan’s ears, causing a slight start in his expression, as if hit by a heavy blow to the chest, an indescribable sourness filling his heart.
Jiang An lifted her eyes and noticed the fleeting emotions in the man’s eyes, slightly coming back to her senses, her eyelashes fluttering twice, her tone softening, "Dr. Gao, we no longer have any relation, I hope you and your family will not disrupt my life anymore, our relationship... ended completely four years ago."
Ti had passed so long, and she was finally able to face the past calmly. Her expression, while speaking these words, was exceptionally serene, the look of kind persuasion falling into Gao Chuan’s eyes, turning the color of his pupils cold in an instant.
She said their relationship ended four years ago?
"Jiang An, it’s impossible for us to end," the man said in a lowered voice, his pitch-black eyes filled with indifference.
Jiang An didn’t seem to want to entangle with him any further. She retorted sharply, "That’s your thought; all I want now is to forget the past and start a new life."
For her, the unspeakable pain of the past didn’t seem to gradually fade away with ti. Instead, it turned into a knot that rotted inside her heart, and whenever the terrible nightmares struck, those long-sealed fragnts in her mory would involuntarily erge.
On the deserted streets, the continuously flowing blood, the boundless darkness of the night, like an abyss she couldn’t shake off, tornted her from ti to ti.
Such painful mories, she had finally mustered the courage to try to leave them behind and start anew, so how could she allow herself to fall into the sa pattern again.
Gao Chuan was left speechless by the woman beneath him, as if there was a fishbone stuck in his throat, unable to utter a word.
Jiang An took the opportunity to break free from his grasp, and she fled in a panic from his line of sight, while the man stood frozen, not chasing after her.
Long after, Gao Chuan was the only one to walk out of the bar, and he found a deserted place. He took out a cigarette from his pocket and lit them up one after another.
His nicotine addiction had grown strong over the years, and even though he had been a doctor and knew well that smoking too much was harmful, he couldn’t quit.
The cigarette was held between his fingers, the burning end flickering with dim and bright sparks, and a milky white smoke quietly rose before him.
He didn’t know which one it was, the man fiercely inhaled, the harsh taste of smoke making him cough a few tis, but when he cald down, he put it back in his mouth again.
These years, whenever his craving for smoke surged, he would feel an itch in his heart, overwheld by the torturous sensation that kept him from sleeping through the night.
This was also how he felt when he missed Jiang An.
For four full years, through thousands of days and nights, he couldn’t rember how many sleepless nights he had lain in bed smoking non-stop, her image everywhere in his mind.
Many friends around him didn’t understand the love-hate entanglent between the two of them, bluntly advising him to forget Jiang An and find soone new.
It wasn’t that he couldn’t forget, he had never intended to forget her in the first place, as he had never planned to quit his addiction to smoking.
Four years, it was the duration he gave himself to let her go, as well as compensation for the ti Jiang An gave up her studies for him.
Now, finally enduring until her return from studying abroad, he thought everything would go back to how it used to be.
A caged bird yearns for the old forest, a pond fish longs for the forr depths; Jiang An would co back to his side too.
But what awaited him was Jiang An speaking of ending things before him, not knowing that her deliberate avoidance these past days was like a shining knife stabbing right into the core of his heart.
A cool evening breeze brushed against his face, ssing the inky hair on his forehead, the spreading smoke veiling the depressed look on his face at this mont.
He didn’t understand.
How could she say it’s over so easily?
He, he can’t quit her.
