615: 134.

The Last Remaining Bloodline of the Mother of the Marsh 615: 134.

The Last Remaining Bloodline of the Mother of the Marsh The outline of the hunter and his son was obscured by the crowd.

Lost in thought, Lu Li withdrew his gaze and looked at the governnt officials and guards stepping down the stairs, who, after confirming Lu Li’s identity, politely asked if he needed any help.

“Did Duke Adela’s lineage survive?” Lu Li asked.

“Duke Adela…

the Old Duchy of Saint Mark?” The governnt official, sporting a mustache, tentatively inquired, and after getting a response, he pondered and said, “Of course, there are archives of the Old Duchy of Saint Mark.

Let think…

Mark should know more.

Please co with ; I’ll take you to see him.”

Lu Li gently shook his head, his knuckles lightly tapping on the armrest of the wheelchair, “I will wait here.”

The governnt official appeared slightly apologetic, about to leave but then rembered sothing and said, “…

may I ask if this is related to the supernatural?”

“Yes.”

After all, this was a descendant of the Mother of the Marsh.

“Alright, we will be quick,” said the governnt official, turning to climb a few steps before turning back and saying, “Your Excellency can wait in the cafe opposite, finding the archives might take so ti.”

“Hmm.”

Lu Li nodded, waited for the governnt official to disappear into City Hall, then turned and maneuvered his wheelchair across to the opposite side.

The street, bustling with carriages and foot traffic, seed sowhat perilous, yet, before he reached the middle of the road, Anna had already rushed back to Lu Li’s side, gently pushing the wheelchair back to the cafe.

Upon settling back across from Lu Li, Anna pushed a steaming cup of coffee toward him.

“Did you ask?”

“No, they are checking the archives.

We need to wait here for a while.”

Underneath his cloak, he gave a slight nod, his exquisitely pale neck just visible.

Anna asked gently, “Are you hungry?”

It was less than an hour before noon.

“Not hungry, but I’d like sothing to eat.”

By the fourth day at the refuge, the supplies Anna brought back no longer included “vegetables”.

Apart from beans or potatoes, all vegetables had spoiled and deteriorated.

The at fared slightly better, being stored in the cool of a cellar, it spoiled slower, but it too had completely turned bad two days before their departure, and even charring it over charcoal couldn’t hide the stench.

Fortunately, Anna had scavenged enough canned food, potatoes, dried at, fish, and spices.

Even without using the previously stored cans, these foods would suffice for a month or two.

Even the tastiest food, eaten repeatedly, would lose its flavor, let alone these were just ordinary, common ingredients.

“A glass of milk and another empty cup,”

Lu Li said to the waiter passing by with a tray.

The waiter took note and left.

“Shall we find a restaurant after dealing with the Mother of the Marsh?” Anna asked softly.

“Hmm.”

Lu Li still had over two thousand Shillings, which would be best spent before they beca utterly worthless.

Soon enough, the milk and an empty cup were brought over.

Lu Li first took a sip of the milk, which tasted of must, dry hay, low-grade syrup, and preservatives.

Obviously it was not fresh milk but powdered milk, yet in such tis, one couldn’t expect too much.

Lu Li picked up the coffee and poured it into the empty cup, but due to his slow movents, the coffee slipped along the side of the cup, spilling onto the table.

“Let do it,” Anna took Lu Li’s hand, took the coffee cup, poured half into the empty cup, leaving half, and then topped up both cups with milk.

The aroma of coffee beans was enough to mask the unpleasant taste of the poor-quality milk.

“Do you need to feed you?” Anna asked with a gentle smile while bringing the cup to Lu Li’s lips.

Lu Li shook his head in refusal, slowly drinking the lukewarm mix of coffee and milk.

When he finished the first cup, a governnt official hurriedly ran out of the City Hall across from the shop window, looking left and right as he dashed across the street and into the coffee shop.

After scanning the room and spotting Lu Li, his face lit up, and he placed several sheets of paper on the table in front of Lu Li, “You’re an Exorcist, right?

This is the information you need.

Please, you must eradicate that creature!”

He mistook Lu Li for being involved in resolving so strange incident.

The governnt official’s excited voice was sowhat loud, drawing the attention of other patrons in the café.

Lu Li did not explain much, gave thanks, and then began to look through the papers.

The sheets contained information about the descendants of Duke Adela.

Due to Duke Adela’s prestige, and with the era coming to its end after a nearly total war, the age of Exorcists diating was approaching, his family’s lineage had been completely preserved but was brought to Arlen Kingdom and stripped of all their wealth.

Although the Arlen Kingdom’s decision regarding the defeated was quite rciful, the family mbers, who were accustod to aristocratic life, could not possibly endure the tedious, dull life of commoners, struggling even to fill their stomachs.

After the son of Duke Adela, Prince Charles, failed in business using all his family’s remaining wealth, the family fell apart.

Apart from Duke Adela’s legitimate descendants, other family mbers left Arlen Kingdom to live independently, losing touch over ti, so gradually disappearing, blending into the crowd.

Perhaps it was the glory-lost descendants blending into town folks, or perhaps it was…

So, from the second record onwards, only the descendants of Prince Charles and his children’s children were recorded.

“Are there any of his descendants still alive?”

The last page of the records was about an old woman nad Lilia.

She was the last direct descendant of Duke Adela; if she was still alive, she would now be 58 years old and possibly the only remaining descendant of Duke Adela.

According to her generation, she should refer to the Mother of the Marsh as “great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great aunt.”

The governnt official glanced over Lu Li’s shoulder and quickly replied, “Yes, she’s the only one left.”

“Where does she live?”

“Uh…

I’ll have to go back and check.”

Lu Li handed the records back to the governnt official, “Please do that.”

“It’s no trouble…” the young governnt official said shyly, smiling, then hurried back out of the café.

Through the shop window, as he rushed due to ti constraints, he nearly got hit by a street carriage.

Lu Li suddenly withdrew his gaze, looking towards the manager who had approached the table.

He earnestly offered to waive the bill for the respected Exorcist.

After the manager walked away, there was a wave of eyes turned his way.

A young boy, prompted by his mother, brought a plate of cookies to Lu Li’s table.

Lu Li was observed and watched much like an animal in a zoo, though mostly with kindness and curiosity.

If he had been on Ailen Peninsula, such treatnt would have been entirely impossible.

Fortunately, the patrons’ attention lasted only a few minutes until the governnt official ca in again, and they once again looked on with curiosity.

This ti, the governnt official brought the address of Lilia, located on the northwest outskirts of the Royal City, an area between civilian districts and slums.

The circumstances of Duke Adela’s descendants were not very favorable.

With the address in hand, Lu Li and Anna left the coffee shop.

The distance from City Hall to Lilia’s residence spanned nearly half the city, a two-hour walk.

Although Anna enjoyed the ti pushing Lu Li leisurely through the streets, it was too ti-consuming.

They rented a carriage from a livery stable, taking Lu Li straight to their destination.
