Chapter 1434: Chapter 274: The Surrendering Exorcist

Ti can bury everything, cover everything.

Not many people from the Weird Tis rember the Kanreia Empire, just like not many people know of Belfast; they only know the current na—the Land of Light.

If the Land of Light disappears into the long night soon, it too will gradually be lost and forgotten.

The Kanreia Empire is located in the central part of the Main Affinity Continent, far from the coast. Its adjacent mountains and rivers are traditional birthplaces of ancient civilizations.

Tesla reminded Lu Li before departing to be cautious of the anomalies in the Kanreia Empire, especially those that may carry shadows of the Ancients accompanying the growth of civilization.

Just like the deep sea harbors countless anomalies, so do the oldest civilizations’ birthplaces.

Traversing the Arlen Kingdom and Duchy of Xirei, Lu Li indeed found corresponding clues in the old Kanreia Empire.

Anomalous tribes battle each other along the old Kanreia Empire’s territory, with hostility amongst the clans, akin to a slaughterhouse. Yet, unlike the pure chaos of the wilderness, a strange order perates here—still the survival of the fittest, but following a law of natural selection.

Just like Abyss City in hell, the old sewers in the Barren Lands.

So are more like anomalies cloaked in human skin, with actions resembling humans, differing only by race.

Perhaps over ti, they could evolve into a new civilization, branded with nas like the beast race, the undead, or spirits and monsters—

This tribal system even allows them to wield weapons like the Earth Dwellers do.

Even the Ghost World struggles to protect Lu Li from being discovered; careful navigation around the anomalous tribes is necessary to approach the old Kanreia Empire’s capital.

The surplus humanity brought into the infiltration beca a burden, forcing Lu Li to deplete nine-tenths of it, retaining only enough for two to three full Dreamwalker sessions.

Indeed, Lu Li found traces of an Alien God within the ruins’ nest—an indication that the slaughterhouse operates under their unwavering rules: issuing divine commands for the followers and servants to wage eternal battles, sacrificing the flesh of foes to empower the followers and servants, then starting new conflicts—

Besides the location of the empire’s capital in Nest Forest and the headquarters of the Exorcist Association, Tesla temporarily boosted his mory with an Alchemical Elixir to recall the residence of a friend exorcist who once worked at the association.

If the Exorcist Association’s headquarters were destroyed, perhaps Lu Li could find sothing here.

On his way to find the headquarters, Lu Li found a road sign beneath the buried ruins leading to this half-collapsed building, heading directly to the second floor where half a bed hung in the air. In a locked drawer within a cabinet, he found a diary.

The remaining ceiling shielded it from rain, yet the lock was rusty, and despite the cabinet’s decay, the diary remained relatively intact.

The diary, originally dozens of pages thick, had only a dozen pages left, with many earlier entries torn out, leaving only murmuring words that allowed Lu Li to glean glimpses of the past:

[I heard from the association about what happened in the Arlen Kingdom… If the association were like it used to be, could those drifting fluffs have been stopped at the beginning?]

[We, investigators, night watchers… Good, the fractured forces have returned, and we will unite again, like a clenched fist]

[Is that it? Why can’t we trust each other? Why the need for mutual vigilance at this stage? This will harm us all!]

[We finally decided to unite; hope still exists]

Following that, the handwriting beca disorderly and shaky, like writing in a moving carriage, or a trembling left hand:

[No, Rick, we are too late… all our efforts have co to nothing…]

[Does the Spark Project still serve any purpose? The anomalies won’t leave easily but… we have no other choice]

[Old buddy, it’s ti for you to leave, to find new hope]

Beneath the mottled, faded text, a few relatively new lines appeared:

[Twenty years later, I return here again, sigh… This place awakens many of my old mories, along with this diary, surprising that it wasn’t subrged in the basent…]

[We were wrong… no, we were right, they were wrong. We shouldn’t resist the anomalies… the more we resist, the more they refuse to leave, the purpose of their invading our world is to exterminate all native life, including us]

[The spark can only burn for a century, hoping by then they’ve left]

[I don’t know where to go, maybe head east, to see the holand Arlen Kingdom, from the port to the Barren Lands, but honestly, maybe I’ll disappear with the night after it falls]

The diary ends here.

Given the frequent appearance of “we,” Lu Li suspects the diary’s owner lacks recognition or yearns for it. Besides that, there are only puzzling tidbits.

Lu Li doesn’t like such riddles, but the diary itself only records the “part it wants to reveal.”

The confird truth is: the division among Exorcists, investigators, and night watchers was not as harmonious as described; conflicts were ongoing. Even after the cooperation post-Blood Dandelions, the rift wasn’t alleviated, and as Weird Tis approached, it was already too late.

Rick ntioned the Spark Project and hinted at aspects of the plan, suggesting it wasn’t as simple as it appeared…

In the end, Rick was still alive and had returned to his holand years ago, witnessed everything here and left the final words before heading east.

Lu Li closed the diary, calling a rchant to relay two tasks: “Have Vena Underground City search for an exorcist nad Rick and ask Tesla if the Exorcists, night watchers, and investigators were ever not harmonious?”

The forr requires ti, but the latter was quickly confird:

The initial split of the Exorcists Association was not purely about distributing duties.

This relates to historical factors of the Exorcists Association, simplified as: the Exorcists Association of that ti divided into three ideologies, forming the embryonic structure of the three major organizations. Over ti, the differences expanded, accelerating the split, eventually resulting in the Exorcists becoming Demons Slayers, investigators, and night watchers.

They didn’t trust each other, each believing only they could resolve the anomalies, yet inevitably had to interact. Despite the deep foundation, the Demons Slayers’ numbers dwindled and they beca silent, while the investigators and night watchers, known for joining human kingdoms, were comparatively harmonious.

The Spark Project was the first secret cooperation among the three major organizations: on the surface, establishing shelters to preserve sparks, but unknown to all, the Exorcists Association was convinced the anomalies would depart after exterminating humanity.

Thus, at the end of the Weird Tis, they voluntarily walked towards death.

The reason behind the Exorcists Association’s conviction remains unknown.

Lu Li initially didn’t plan to delve into the past of the three major organizations; that’s for historians unless the truth is inadvertently discovered during the Nightmare investigation.

But now, the truth has beco equally important.

What did the Exorcists Association discover?
