Chapter fifty five

**Kieran Morrison**

His face was tilted to mine, a wide satisfied smirk plastered on his face. A giggle escaped his mouth as he t my scowl, his reaction would have been cute were it not for the fact that he got my clothes soaking wet.

Well, no one would be happy at having their shirt stained with puke.

William stepped in then, giving a brief stare before grabbing Oliver’s arm, trying to tug him away from .

"That’s what you get for being so m..an to ," Oliver stuttered, backing away with unsure steps, his fingers slipping free from my now ssy shirt.

He swayed dangerously and I instinctively reached out to steady him.

"I’ll take my boyfriend ho now, please don’t be stubborn okay?" William muttered, but his words caught my ears like a magnet.

My jaw ticked with jealousy. Boyfriend?

But before I could respond, Oliver freed his arms from William’s grip and swayed towards , his face scrunched up in the most adorable pout I’d ever seen.

"I’m not l..leaving with you, Will! You’re f..fake rember?!" he whined, pointing at William with a wobbly finger that kept missing its target. "You’re both my f..fake boyfriends!"

He giggled and clapped his hands together like a delighted child. "Yay! I’m chased after by two hot boys! Do I get to p..pick? Like in those manga books?"

I found myself nearly smiling despite everything, he was the most adorable drunk person ever. Except for the bastard next to him who didn’t want to give up.

"Oliver, you’re drunk. I’m your real boyfriend, rember?"

"Fake! Fake! Fake!" Oliver sang out cheerfully, doing a little spinning dance that nearly sent him tumbling. I caught his elbow just in ti, yanking him to my side "Will is fake boyfriend number one!" He held up one finger, then turned to with the biggest, most innocent smile. "And K is fake boyfriend number two!"

My heart nearly stopped. He called K.

And there was nothing going on with this William guy?

"But..." Oliver leaned in conspiratorially, his voice dropping to what he probably thought was a whisper but was still perfectly audible. "K is taller and bigger, so he w..wins!"

He giggled at his own declaration, covering his mouth with both hands like he’d just shared the world’s biggest secret.

I peered down at him to find his gaze swimming with pure adoration, the sa look he used to give when we were kids and I’d help him with his drawings or chase away bullies.

My heart gave another leap, harder this ti. I hadn’t seen that look in his gaze for so long. All I had managed to get all these years was fear and sadness.

I felt nine once again, and he had been my short little friend who followed everywhere.

Then right before my eyes, the idolized look in his gaze faltered. His expression slowly grew dim, like clouds covering the sun, until it was dull with sadness.

The special mont was gone. A bitter feeling churned tight in my stomach. The little boy had disappeared. I wondered if I would ever get to see him again. It upset more than I cared to admit.

"Why did you get so an?" he whispered, his bottom lip trembling. "Why didn’t you like your Ollie any more? Was I that b..bad?"

His words ca out in hiccups now, tears starting to gather in his eyes. "I d..didn’t kill her on purpose, I swear I didn’t k..know she was still inside. Why did you hate Oliver so much? You wanted m.. to die instead, right?"

He started hitting my chest with sluggish fists, but there was no real force behind it. Just the desperate flailing of a heartbroken child. "I would have died for her, K. I would have traded places if I could!"

More tears rolled down his cheeks as he pald his face with both palms. I could hear his muffled sobs, and each one felt like a knife to my chest.

Remorse crashed over like a tidal wave. The guilt clogged up my insides, threatened to suffocate . I couldn’t breathe. I couldn’t do anything but stare at myself with resentnt as his cries kept stabbing my heart.

Instinctively, I wanted to comfort him, to soothe all those tears that I had caused. I reached out hesitantly to place my hands on his shoulders.

He looked up at then, his lips still trembling, his cheeks stained with tears, the tip of his nose red from crying. Even drunk and sobbing, he was still the most beautiful thing I’d ever seen.

The sight of his distress tore at my heart. I closed my eyes tightly, why did I ever hurt him? Why hadn’t I allowed myself to care before?

This anguish had always been there in his eyes, but in my hate and grief, I had always ignored it.

I cupped his face gently in my palms, wiping away his tears with my thumbs. Those beautiful eyes never left mine.

"Don’t cry...please," The words slipped free from my mouth.

"T..then you don’t hate a..any more?" He hiccupped, looking up at with such hope it nearly broke .

I closed my eyes and exhaled briefly. Hate? I was done with that.

"I will do anything to deserve your forgiveness," I muttered under my breath. I had never ant anything as much as I did those words.

"You want to f..forgive you?" His eyes went wide as though he was surprised by my admission.

I nodded.

"You’ll do a..anything?"

I knew he wasn’t in his right state of mind, but still, I wanted to start from tonight.

I nodded again.

A brilliant smile spread across his face as he clapped both his hands together gleefully, bouncing on his toes like an excited puppy.

"Then I w..want a piggy back ride! Like when we were little! You always gave the best piggy back rides!"

I stared at him in disbelief. Of everything he could have asked for, he only wanted a piggy back ride? He was absolutely not in his right senses.

He would no doubt want to stay far away from him tomorrow when he sobered up.

My stomach knotted with distress as I studied his features openly. This would probably be the last ti he would be so carefree with .

I would make the most of it.

"You can’t take him," William protested, stepping forward. "It’s my responsibility to take him ho safely."

I had almost forgotten his presence. Why the hell did he always say the most stupid things?

"No!" Oliver whined, stamping his foot like a petulant child. "I w..want to go with K! Piggy piggy ride!"

He started tugging on my arm, nearly losing his balance in the process. I caught him against my chest, and he looked up at with the most adorable pout.

"Please, K? I’ve been a g..good boy! I only puked on you a little bit!"

I didn’t even hide the smile on my face, how could soone be this cute even while drunk and covered in alcohol?

"Well, he wants . Hope you got your answer," I said to William, unable to keep the smugness out of my tone.

William’s gaze narrowed suspiciously. "What are you planning to do with him? I won’t allow my best friend to be taken advantage of!" He looked at Oliver, pure panic shooting through his features and I nearly rolled my eyes.

It wasn’t like I was going to eat Oliver up or sothing.

"Well, he was my best friend first, even before you," I said, just to spite him.

Then, eting his suspicious glare directly, I added, "Don’t worry. Nothing he doesn’t want will happen tonight. I’ll take good care of him."

"Oliver, please co to your senses, don’t bla for this tomorrow!" William cried in worry again, but it was too late. Oliver was already jumping onto my back.

He already made his decision, and he chose .
