Chapter 156: 156:Determined Minds
"So you’re telling . There’s going to be a kissing scene at the end. Between
and the female lead role."
Arthur looked at him.
"You didn’t even know that? You were really just auditioning for the fun of it?"
"They were offering
ten thousand to audition."
In hindsight it was weird. There was significantly more males then females auditioning, like significantly more.
"Damn."
So that ten thousand was just a trap. Raymond would have never gotten involved if he knew about the damn kiss scene. Maybe he might’ve, but he would have asked to change the scene first! If it couldn’t be changed, then he wouldn’t have auditioned.
But when he ssaged Nicole asking whether it could be changed, she just replied no. With a full stop.
He stared at the ceiling.
’No. Why was I the only one who didn’t know?!’
Ellen, despite never watching the play knew it from the previous tiline and Arthur and Lily also seed to know from their connections.
But he was the only one who didn’t know!
It was actually because the play occured during a stretch of ti when Raymond wasn’t in Terra when it happened in the previous tiline. So he only heard the smallest tidbits of information about it and didn’t really pursue it further. It wasn’t important for the novel he was writing about them at the ti.
He cursed himself for not knowing this. He also planned a minor revenge plot on Lily. She definitely had to have known this!
"...Is it too late to quit?"
"Probably."
Unfortunately, Raymond already received the ten thousand.
What a strange situation, receiving so much money should have been a cause to celebrate. It was a significant chunk of money after all. However, this was the one ti that Raymond regretted already taking it.
Arthur put a hand on his shoulder. Comforting him slightly.
"It could always be worse."
"How could it be worse? I have to go up on stage and kiss soone I don’t even know!"
Especially with Raymond’s age, doing such a thing with soone still a teenager was just wrong. He still had his morals after all.
He raised an eyebrow, "Dude. Don’t you know?"
"What is it this ti."
"Well. You’re the main lead, and Ellen is the female main lead. Killian and Viviana."
"So what?"
"The play is about the romance between Killian and Viviana. Who do you think you’re going to be kissing on stage?"
Arthur actually thought he saw smoke co out of Raymond’s head. His brain short-circuiting and unable to work properly.
His body stiffened, finally connecting the pieces together in place and realizing that.
Arthur continued, "Our whole entire year is buzzing about this. How do you not know? Do you not check the academy forums?"
"..."
The answer was no. Raymond didn’t check the academy forums often.
The academy forums were mainly just ways for students to interact with each other, talk about so problems they had and issue complaints about the academy, as well as the occasional official academy announcent. Such as upcoming exams, holidays and events.
For Raymond, who didn’t really care about any of that. He didn’t really have a reason to check the academy forums.
"You and Ellen have a lot of influence in the academy you know? Because of you, the coffee club has been getting really popular."
Raymond did know about that last part actually. Willow had practically threw a mini celebration when the club received a slightly larger budget. Plus, a lot of people (especially the juniors) now wanted to sign up into the club.
Since you could only join new clubs or leave clubs at the start of the hear though, it was all on hold until next year.
But starting from the next year, Raymond was going to have a lot more juniors with him inside the coffee club. No longer would he and Lily be the youngest ones there. (None of the current first years signed up in ti)
He let out a heavy sigh, for the next two months or so. They would be pretty busy with the academy play. He could already feel his lazy life of lazing around slip away from his grasp once more.
He also had to deal with Ellen, and that scene in the play. Because he sure as hell wasn’t about to kiss her for real!
I an why would anyone?
Sure she was probably one of the most beautiful people he knew with flawless smooth skin. Sure the way she smiled was enough to make anyone stop in place. Sure her eyes were enchanting enough to get lost in them for hours on end. Sure her hair was such a beautiful golden blonde that even the sun seed dim in comparison, but...
What was he talking about again?
Dammit. Just imagining her smug grin, corners of her lips curled at him being all blushing and embarrassed already made him angry.
She would probably poke and tease him as well. Her voice all too easy to imagine.
’What? You’ve never kissed anyone before?’
Followed up by a smirk and a
’That’s sad.’
Raymond unknowingly clenched his fists.
The more this sa imaginary situation played put in his mind, the more real it beca. Until at so point, it had no longer beco just an imagined situation in his head. But a real event that had occurred to him, and was going to occur to him in reality.
"Absolutely not."
"Huh? What are you talking about?"
Right. He had forgotten but Arthur was still here. Soone who had plenty of experience with won...
He made up his mind in an instant, "Arthur. I need you to teach ."
"What? Teach you what?"
"Everything I need to know in order to defeat her."
"What?"
"I need to be able to make her suffer during these next two months."
"Genuinely, what are you talking about?"
***
"So you see. Because of this play, I have to go up on stage and kiss Raymond! What am I supposed to do?"
"I see."
"Not just that, he didn’t even look the least bit flustered or embarrassed at all! Why doesn’t he care?! It’s
he’s kissing! Am I not beautiful?"
"I see."
"Maybe...he’s already got experience with other won already! So that’s why he doesn’t look flustered! Grr...my Shadow is a womanizer!"
"I see."
Despite Ellen’s constant animated motions, wildly swinging her arms around, kicking her legs or even glaring into the ceiling as she explained the situation, plus the growling when she was angry. The reply she received was the sa each ti.
"Whew. Thanks for listening, I really appreciate it."
"I see."
Lin Qingyi continued rubbing her chin and nodding. Saying the sa words and repeating the sa actions over and over again.
Because unfortunately, she could only understood about one in every five words said by Ellen.
In the end, it was basically the sa as understanding nothing at all. Even if she knew Ellen was talking about Raymond and sothing about him. She couldn’t understand the entire sentence as a whole. Let alone the entire conversation. Leaving her utterly clueless as to what Ellen was ranting about so frustratedly.
So she just repeated what Raymond had told her.
---
"If you ever find yourself in a situation where you don’t understand soone. Just nod and say ’I see’ every once in a while."
"How does that help?"
"It just makes it look like you understand."
"But what if I need to understand?"
He waved her off, casually blocking another several dozen strikes of her floating swords before retaliating with a spell of his own.
"You can always understand later."
---
Ellen clenched her fist, punching the air as she loudly complained.
"But it’s still so frustrating! How is he so composed?! It’s !"
Even her years of experience couldn’t help her in this situation. Because she had never once experienced anything like this at all!
How could her past life experience help her when she had never even dated, let alone even kissed soone other then her parents!
" I see."
Ellen let out a deep breath, her eyes suddenly regaining clarity.
"I’ve got it!"
She leapt out of her seat, startling Lin Qingyi slightly.
"I just need to make him embarrassed! Think about it, it’s impossible to resist
right? There’s no way he can remain composed for so long! I just need to break that composure while acting fine myself, and then I win!"
"I see?"
Even Lin Qingyi felt a bit confused now, the only words she could understand being impossible, break, myself and win.
"Yes. It was all so simple all along. If I get him to be the first one to break, then I win!"
Unbeknownst to either of them. They had just made up their minds to do the exact sa thing.
Their hearts simultaneously tightened. The next ti they both saw each other, they would be friends no longer. But rather enemies seeking the downfall of the other. No matter what, in any way shape or form. Both of them refused to talk it out with words.
Whoever breaks composure first loses.
And neither of them were willing to be losers.
Being the winner was the only absolute way!
